What are ‘Promoted Posts’:

Promoted posts are a simple way to reach more of the people who like your Page and their friends. Visit your Page to try promoting a post. Promoted posts are available to Pages with more than 400 likes.

A lot of activity happens on Facebook and most people only see some of it in their news feeds. They may miss things when they’re not on Facebook, or they may have a lot of friends and Pages, which results in too much activity to show all of it in their news feed.

If you don’t promote your post, few of the fans will see it. However, by promoting a post, you’re increasing its potential reach so an even larger percentage of your Page audience and the friends of those interacting with your post will see it.

You can promote any kind of post you can create in the sharing tool including status updates, photos, offers, videos and questions.

Promoted Posts: Why must every brand invest in these?

Fans can not see all the page posts. (Without promoted posts, only about 10% of your page’s fan base, gets to see your content).

More engaging page posts result in more organic distribution. (Through fans sharing content).

Optimize your page posting strategy to achieve higher distribution. Example: Ensure that you have a content flat plan in place which ensures diversity & discipline. Content that is approved in advanced can be scheduled for optimum time posting – which will result in higher impressions.

The test: Promoted posts vs Sponsored stories

Excerpt from a blog: We decided to use a recent update to our Beginner's Guide to SEO as the content piece that we would Promote and run in our Sponsored Story. For the Promoted Post, we created a simple post on our Brand Page linking to the Beginner's Guide and dedicated $100 to it. This Post had a reach of 26,275. It generated 198 actions, 1,311 clicks and had a CTR of 4.99%. The CPC was $.076.

For the Sponsored Story, we targeted 266,580 people who live in the US, Canada, UK, or Australia and like SEO related topics and websites. The actual reach of the campaign was 44,247 with a frequency of 6.2. This Sponsored Story generated 16 actions, 162 clicks, had a CTR of 0.366% and a CPC of $1.44.
