ICAS We have over 50 students that have elected to participate in the ICAS Assessments over the next few weeks. We completed Science this week, with catch-ups happening tomorrow. We have Digital Technology and English occurring next week and then ICAS Mathematics and Spelling in Week 8. I supervised the Science Assessment yesterday and was astounded by the student’s motivation and resilience in completing this assessment. There were some very tough questions amongst the mix and they showed persistence and problem solving skills in answering them. Well done students. POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING (PBL) FOCUS: Our PBL focus for the last two weeks has been “Playing happily and safely in the playground”. The students have been doing okay, however I still seem to be having
to complete Reflection room forms with students on a daily basis. At North Arm, we believe all behaviours come down to showing and being respectful.
showing and being respectful to yourself
and showing and being respectful to others
Children need to know that if they respect themselves then others will respect them. We talk about RESPECT on a daily basis; what it looks like, sounds like and feels like and we encourage all students to be respectful to the whole school community. I love Albert Einstein’s quote:
“I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.’ Regards
Carmel
PBL did you know…….. our focus this fortnight is all about being safe in outdoor play areas? I think for most of us our
favourite subject at school was recess and really that's where the fun happens. So isn't it great if our kids know that they can be safe and happy in the playground? I've heard there's even a bonus - The year level with the best recorded behaviour will get to choose the end of term reward. Now that's a goal we can encourage our kids to shoot for! Regards Deb

i4 Software From iPads to Android tablets to personal computers and from year 1 through to year 6, Spelling Mastery i4 Software is being used in your homes to consolidate your child’s in-class Spelling Mastery lessons.
Read on for an insight as to what three of our year 5 and three of our year 2 students think about Spelling Mastery i4 Software.
Our year 5 students said … “I think it’s really fun and it really helps me learn my spelling words that I’m learning in class. It’s really fun!” IN, 5TL “It’s a fun way to learn online – without using pencil and paper.” OM, 5CH “It spells the words out aloud and tells you the rules you need to learn about the word.” KC, 5TL
And, our year 2 students said … Year 2 “It’s really fun because you don’t have to sound the word out, you just type it.” SV, 2LV “I love that you can do it on the computer then do it at school and learn quicker.” NJ, 2MB “I like that I can log on by myself and I can do it by myself and I have a touch computer so I can do it easier.” PR, 2MB
If you’re interested in your child accessing the Spelling Mastery i4 Software to support their in-class learning and would like to know more about the program, please contact either your child’s teacher or me at [email protected]

Year 5 girls demonstrate their proficiency using Spelling Mastery i4 Software.

HEARING SCREENING 30th October Consent Forms Available NOW
Did you know that research taken from the Hearing in Schools’ Study, 2005 indicates that as many as 15% of all school children may be affected by slight and mild hearing loss? This equates to a possible 54 NASS students whose hearing could be affected! Based on the knowledge and understanding that a student’s hearing can change over time, often without even the child, parent or teacher noticing, we have organised for hearing screening to be offered to all NASS students on Friday, 30 October 2020 for a small fee.
The Hear and Say Audiology Team will be providing Hearing Screening for all NASS students at a cost of $18.33 per student. However, once again, the North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health (NCACCH) will be funding the cost of screening for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
If you would like your children to access this service, parent letters and consent forms are available at the front office. As this service is being funded for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, a parent letter and consent form has already been sent home with your child/ren this week. Please note that all consent forms will need to be returned to the front office along with payment, if required, before Wednesday, 9 September 2020.
For further information regarding the hearing screening program please read the parent letter and/or contact staff from Hear and Say’s audiology team on 07 3850 2111.
