WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 24/2015 12 August 2015

Kia ora

Holly– shamolly! Goodness winter has hit us hard this week. The frosts and hail have been impressive, to

the point our school gates were frozen. A sign to close the school! Hardly, the sun came out and Mia and her

team prepared milo for everyone. A massive thank you for the milo donations. It certainly made a difference and

helped prepare our tamariki for learning.

This Friday we are having a quick assembly at 2.30pm under the shelter. Nik Laing will end our maths week

celebrations with prizes and a quick chat about what we have been up to followed by the lovely Shar Kelly

introducing the ENERGIZE home play challenge. Come along and join in the party!

Two farewells this week– firstly our beautiful Katie Sinnott who has relieved in Room 9. She heads to the

UK for a short break before returning to Waihi East School in Term 4 as a day to day reliever. Secondly our

amazing Arthur family, who are moving to Tauranga. A huge thank you to Te and Paula for their drive,

compassion, knowledge and and aroha for Waihi East School. Thank you for being leaders within our school

community. All the best for your new adventures.

Team Waihi East met this week to share achievement data, discuss kapahaka uniforms and fundraising. An

enormous thank you to Alex who is our new Chairperson. We look forward to your leadership and continued

enthusiasm for our school as you lead this group.

Next week Sharon Samson will have a thank you morning tea for our netball coaches. A massive thank you

to this group for your contribution to our school. Together We Rise Above and Shine.

Nga mihi nui, Emily ([email protected])

MATHS WEEK Next week (week 4) is Maths week. We will be doing fun challenges in class everyday. There will be lots of prizes and fun activities. Whanau are also invited to come along to assembly on Friday to join in on the fun. There will be some fun maths chal-lenges to solve together and lots more prizes. Everyone welcome!

MATT’S ’BRIGHT’ IDEA—BE SEEN AND BE SAFE Matthew G, one of our year 6 students had the brilliant idea that he would like to see all student given the opportunity to have their own high-vis vest to wear to and from school dai-ly. Matt presented his idea to each class and recorded the names of those who wanted a vest. Of our students, 50 high-vis vests were ordered. RD1 Waihi were on board with the initative and were happy to supply these vests to our school free of charge. It is fantastic to see students wearing these vests every day as they make their way to school, either walking or biking. They are certainly very visable in bright orange! Our thanks to RD1 for their generosity and a big congratulations to Matthew for coming up with the idea and seeing it through to completion.
