Augmented RealityCommand Control Communicate Coordinate

ARC4 is the most advanced, wearable augmented reality (AR) software available for outdoor on-the-move applications. ARC4 has been designed and tested for dismount soldier applications.

In a heads up display, ARC4 users see accurate geo-registered icons overlaid on their real-world view. The military-version interface provides a common operating picture (COP) for commanders and small-unit teams. ARC4 brings heads-up blue force tracking, navigation, target handoff, and non-verbal/non-line-of-sight communication to the team leader and individual warfighter.

Heads-Up Visualization for Situational Awareness

• ARC4 user interface (UI), incorporates menu and mode controls – displaying relevant information while minimizing cognitive load.

• UI is customizable and configurable for a wide range of mission profiles and warfighter roles and supports common protocols for network communication and information sharing.

• Attributes associated with AR objects can be distributed over a network using standard XML messaging schemas.

• Object positions are presented on a situational awareness ring at the bottom of the interface, giving the user instant and persistent knowledge of his surroundings. Objects can be queried for additional information on-demand.

• ARC4 is compatible with any see-through display technology including night vision goggles.

HTS is a USB-powered device, configurable housing, low-profile, integration with existing systems

HTA Runs on host computer, combines inertial tracking with computer vision-based signals of opportunity. HTA uses advanced state monitoring to reject dynamic motion and magnetic

disturbances. ARC4 delivers smooth and accurate AR while stationary, moving and when operating near vehicles

Intuitive, low cognitive load, provides heads-up situational awareness throughout mission

Turnkey solution or set of modular components that can integrate with fielded equipment.

Vision references Known landmarks, mountainous horizons, and the sun* (*under development)

Total Latency 2 msec (time delay between onset of source motion and viewed AR scene update)

Typical Accuracy 10 mrad (with vision aiding), 25 mrad (w/o vision aiding)

Drift none (w/ vision aiding or disturbance free), <10 deg/hr (otherwise)

Representative benchmarks for two processor architectures. The test conditions are hardware rendering and vision aiding active with a camera frame rate of 5 fps.
