Auburn History
• We invented the first triboelectric particulate monitoring device 40 years ago
• First application – detect movement of dry solids in a pipe to detect blockages
• Installed the first triboelectric bag leak detector for a fabric filter dust collector; Trash to Power Plant in Saugus, MA
• Commitment to continual improvement and innovation

Auburn Triboelectric Milestones
First Analog output (4-20 mA) triboelectric dust emission monitor; Ideal Basic Cement Company in Mobile, Alabama.
Introduction of TRIBO.guard I and II (model 4001 and 4002), designed to incorporate improved user-friendly functionality and measurement options.
First PC based, networked triboelectric dust emission monitoring system, TRIBO.link was released.
First USEPA recognition - Secondary Lead MACT; RSR Smelter, Dallas, Texas.
TRIBO.dgd introduced; the world's first all-digital triboelectric dust emission monitoring system for signal conditioning and data processing. TRIBO.dsp Series, new technology platform – First Unified DC/AC monitor is introduced.
TRIBO.dsp Series is awarded Breakthrough Product of the Year for innovation in the industry (U3000 series)

What Is Tribo
• The Triboelectric effect is a natural phenomenon and the cause of static electricity
• When two materials collide – There is a transfer of charge
• When two materials closely pass by – There is an induced charge
• We measure it as current – pico amps

Triboelectric Monitoring Basic Principles
Frictional Electrification – Impaction
When particulates collide with a probe, an electrical charge will transfer between the particles and probe
Electrostatic Induction
Particulates in a gas stream also carry a certain amount of net electrostatic charge and when passing by a probe, an electrical charge can also be induced on the probe
