On their scheduled duties, the public attorneys and staff of thePAGCentral Office have alternately been providing legal and inquestproceedings assistance even during night time, weekends and holidayssince October 2m9. For this purpose, the PAO hotline, 929-9436 (local

ln september 2010, the coverage of this prograrn was expanded toserve the people covered by the regional and district offices of the PAO,nationwide. Since then, the said offices have been rendering legalassistance (e.9. legal advice, attending to the l*gul needs of suspects inthe police stations within the territorial jurisdiction of the concernedPAO regional/dishict offices) up to L0:N P.M. everyday (includingweekends and holidays). Further, the assigned PAO inquest publicattorneys and staff therein remain on call, even beyond LO:aO p.M., toattend to inquest calls in police stations nationwide.

Chief Acosta and her legal team rendered legal assistance to minorstudents, Krisel Mallari and Stephanie Kate Lampano.

Krisel and her parents sought the assistance of Chief Acosta on

M"y 5, 2015 and Kate, together with her parents on August 26,

2015.

Chief Acosta and her legal team assisted Krisel in her fight for herright to be issued a certificate of good moral character and tostudy in the university of her owrt choice. They also rendered legal

assistance to Kate, a grade school pupil and victim of verbal abuse

by her teacher. Kate stopped schooling for a while, because of thetrauma she suffered from her teacher.

The continuous assistance given to Krisel since Mry 5,2015, pavedthe way for her enrolment on August 4, 2A15, as a collegeFreshman at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) under itsAccountancy program. She was even a scholar during her firstsemester in the said university on account of her salutatorianaward.

On the other hand, eight-year-old Kate, started studying again onSeptember 74, 2015 as a transferee in another school. This is inconsonance with the decision that was arrived at during theMediation Conference held at the Public Attorney's Office-CentralOffice on August 28, 2015. It was agreed therein that it would be

for the best interest of Kate to transfer her to a new school whichthe Departrnent of Education representative undertook tofacilitate.

b. The Chief Public Attomey and her legal team obtained a favorablejudgement for the cases of the relatiaes of the uictims of the MIVPrincess of the Starc fisritinc tregedy. In a Decision, datedSeptember 1& 2015, the Regional Trial Court-Branch 49, Manilaordered the SLI to pay about two hundred seven million six

hundred fortvone thousand two hundred fifty-six pesos andthirty-four centavos (Php 2O7,AL256.34) to the heirs of the victimsof the said sea disaster.

The Chief Public Attorney and her legal team started handling thesaid cases in 2008. The Z civil cases which they filed against theSLI on behalf of the victims of the MIV Princess of the Stars

maritime tragedy, had, as stated above, been already decided. Onthe other hand, the 64 civil cases filed against the SLI at RTC-Branch 16, Cebu City are still ongoing trial. The criminal case forReckless Imprudence is also ongoing at RTC-Branch 5, Manila.

c. Some of the fa"mily-membts of the fallan Special Action Force(SA.F) lM in the Mmusapaflo ,ntssecre formally sought the ChiefPublic Attorney's free legal assistance on November I I, 2015. Theoffice of Senator Allan Peter C-ayetano endorsed them as early asApril of the same year, in a letter dated, April 16,2A15.

She directed her legal team to: (1) assist in the preparation ofaffidavits and administration of oaths to those who requested forassistance; and, (2) attend preliminary investigation of thecriminal case filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)against the alleged members of the Bangsamora Islamic FreedomFighters (B[FF) and the Moro Islamic uberation Front (MILF),who purportedly participated in the Mamasapano incident. Twosettings of preliminary investigation were conducted; the first onewas on November 26,2015, and the second one, on December 17,2015. The Chief Public Attorney's legal team also assisted the saidfamily members in reviewing their respective affidavits and re-affirming the contents thereof before the prosecutors.

d. In a Resolution, dated November \6,?:07s, the supreme Court EnBanc, stated, among others that "(t)he Counsel of Cudia is herebyORDERED to PROCEED to the office of the clerk of Court tosecure a copy of said ToR xxx". Through the said Resolution, theChief Public Attorney and her legal team were directed to obtainthe ToR or Transcript of Records of Cad"et 7,t Class Atilrh, I"tr p,Cuilie from the PMA. The ToR is one of the academic documentswhich Cudia's counsels have been fighting to get hold of from thePMA, on behalf of their client. cudia has been a client of the pAosince March zA]4.

The Chief Public Attomey rendered legal assistance to victims of'l"aglogltndm bclo" or allqeil bullet-plaating hciil,ents onvarious dates of November and December 2015. From November4,2015 to December 30, 2015, more than seventy (70) victims of thealleged scam were given free legal assistance by the Chief PublicAttorney, and the public attorneys of the PAGPasay DistrictOffice and PAO-Manila District Office who worked tirelessly withher.

Due to the said incidents troubling OFWs, travellers, and eventhose who were only sending off or fetching people fromPhilippine airports, hearings in both Houses of Congress wereheld. In connection thereto, the Chief Public Attorney was invitedas one of the resource persons during the hearing on November12, 2015, that was conducted iointly by the Senate Blue RibbonCommittee and the Committee on Public Services, in connectionwith the alleged scam.

In connection with the request of the Tacloban Fisherfolks UrbanAssociation for the PAO to conduct retrieval operations relative to thevictims of Typhoon Yolanda who perished at the Kankabato Bay inTacloban City, the PAO Forensic Team was able to retrieve four (4) setsof skeletal remains from the Kankabato Bay, Barangay g3, San Jose,Tacloban City, last November 26,20'lS.

The PAO Forensic Team conducted the said initial retrievaloperations in cooperation with the local government of Tacloban City,the Philippine National police, Rotary CIub, and other groups/officesthat are concerned with ecological rehabilitation of the Kankabato Bay.
