Attitude is a Matter of ChoiceOnce, there was a famous author who went out with a friend to get a newspaper. They came to a shop, in which the shopkeeper lady was probably in a bad mood as she was wearing a long face. When he politely asked for a newspaper, she threw the newspaper out the shop and told him rudely to put the coins on the desk near the entrance. The author did as the lady requested and picked up the newspaper on the floor. He then graciously bowed to the lady and said thank you, though the ladys black look never changed. His friend felt very outraged by the ladys behavior. Such a rude lady, why did you still say thank you to her? You should have scolded her instead. he said. Yet, the author answered, Why should I? Whether the person is a gentlewoman or not, I will still choose to be a gentleman.Think about it, are we someone that will uphold our values in whatever situations? The authors answer can be rephrased in different manners.Whether the person is a teachable student or not, I will still choose to be a good teacher.Whether the person is a respectable teacher or not, I will still choose to be a good student.Whether the person is a calm patient or not, I will still choose to be a good doctor.Whether the person is a polite guest or not, I will still choose to be a cordial staff. As humans, we often give up our own values and allow others to manipulate our values. We often respond in the same manner when others treat us badly, which make us look terrible as well. We may encounter many different types of people in our daily life; and we may not be able to change the values of others, but we can choose to stick to our own values.
