No stranger to Atlantic City, Phila-delphia-bred actor Kevin Bacon mentionedAtlantic City in his brief synopsis of “Board-walk Empire” before handing the HBO showthe award for Best Television Series, Drama atSunday’s Golden Globe Awards.

“Boardwalk Empire” beat out “Dexter,”“The Good Wife,” “Mad Men” and “The Walk-ing Dead.” Among the collective on stage toaccept the award were actor Mark Wahlberg, who first saw the possibilities of a series whenhe read the non-fiction book of the same namewritten by South Jersey author Nelson John-son, and series creator and writer TerenceWinter.

The series, which focuses on corruptionin Prohibition-era Atlantic City, also scored aGolden Globe for Best Performance by an Actorin a Television Series, Drama for Steve Bus-cemi, who plays Nucky Thompson. The Thomp-son character is based on real-life political bossNucky Johnson, who ran the city throughoutthe 1920s and beyond. Buscemi beat out BryanCranston of “Breaking Bad,” Michael C. Movies. Television. Stand-up.Books. Jay Mohr knows how to multi-task. He brings the stand-up elementto Borgata’s Music Box Feb. 4.

Mohr, who rose to movie acclaimas a sports agent in the blockbusterhit “Jerry Maguire,” has based partof his act on what critics say are hisdead-pan impressions of ChristopherWalken, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro,Jerry Seinfeld, Norm MacDonald, and even Tracy Morgan.

“Why a show or an act has yet tobe developed around this particu-lar skill is beyond me, but I wouldpay hardcore cash to see him go upagainst a slew of lukewarm hacks …any day,” said Benny Gammermanon entertainment website ology.com.

A performance last year at theWilbur Theatre in Boston drew thisonline review from a fan: “A real old-school comedian who definitely givesthe paying audience their money’sworth. Jay covered old, new andeverything in between. I’ll be on thelookout for his next show.”

Among his many televisionappearances, Mohr starred in thesitcom “Gary Unmarried” from 2008to 2010. Prior to that, he co-starred in“The Ghost Whisperer” from 2006 to2008. On the big screen, he appearedin both drama and comedy films suchas Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter,” “TheAdventures of Pluto Nash,” “Are WeThere Yet,” “Pay It Forward,” “Go,”“200 Cigarettes,” “Playing by Heart,”“Picture Perfect” and “SuicideKings.”

Last May, Mohr shared his hilari-ous stories of fatherhood in his sec-ond book, “No Wonder My ParentsDrank: Tales from a Stand-Up Dad.”It’s a tale of modern fatherhood toldin an irreverent yet charminglyheartfelt voice.

Publisher’s Weekly says Mohr, who starred on “Saturday NightLive” and was a producer for “LastComing Standing,” knows how to be

funny, but was as clueless as every-one else when it came to parenthood.Hence the book.

“There aren’t any do-overs. Youlearn on the fly and do the best youcan,” he said in the book.

“Even so, Mohr makes it abun-dantly clear that, despite some mis-takes, he has enjoyed every minuteof being a parent to his son, Jackson, and he mines it here for comedygold,” says the Publisher’s Weeklyreview. “Mohr’s dead-on insights andsharp observations ring true regard-ing serious issues like spanking andstep-parenting, as well as lightersubjects like his son’s first haircut.Mohr also finds pointed humor inunhappy topics, like his attempt tohave another child with his secondwife. He’s more than candid abouthis lousy swimmers. Mohr’s stand-upsensibility is occasionally trumpedby his love for his son, but even thenhe stays honest and engaging.”

His first book, “Gasping for Air-time,” published in 2004 and was adarkly funny, brutally honest memoirof his two years in the trenches asa writer and featured performer on“Saturday Night Live.”

A frequent guest on The Opie andAnthony Show on satellite radio,Mohr is also well-known for hissports work as host of Fox SportsNet’s “NFL This Morning” and nar-rator of the award-winning “Beyondthe Glory.” Additionally, Mohr execu-tive produced and hosted the ESPNseries “Mohr Sports,” an originalweekly comedy/music/sports talkhour. ■

Sunday was really, really lucky for twoNew York gamblers at Borgata Hotel Casino& Spa. Each hit progressive jackpots on dif-ferent Wheel of Fortune machines, winningmore than $4 million. That kind of luck hasonly happened five times in the Atlantic Citymarket since 1997.

“This is one of those cases where lighten-ing struck twice for two of our customerson the same day and with the same type ofmachine,” said Joe Lupo, Borgata’s senior vicepresident of operations. “We couldn’t be hap-

pier for our winners. We’ve always said thatBorgata is a lucky place to play.”

Both winners chose to remain anonymous. The bigger of the two jackpots came on a

penny Wheel of Fortune Special Edition game, which paid almost $3.5 million. The hit ranksamong the largest penny jackpots in AtlanticCity. The last time someone won a jackpot on apenny Wheel of Fortune was in May 2008.

The second jackpot was later on a 50-centWheel of Fortune machine and paid more than$700,000. ■

The pairing isn’t as easyas it might sound. Sweetsoften overshadow the tasteof wine. “I didn’t wantthe cake to overpower the
