A force to trust First reason to go for water jets is high speed demands, but there are several other excellent reasons to choose water jets over conventional propeller installations. The most obvious benefits include protected propulsion, high efficiency, good maneuverability, shallow draft capability, smooth engine loading, less vibration and lower waterborne noise. When you add all these together, it’s clear that today’s water jets are an impressive evolution in marine propulsion.

Marine Jet Power is a leading innovator and supplier in the marine propulsion field. Around the globe we’re satisfying demanding customers that insist on high performance and reliability. We offer solutions to cover all your needs – from small craft to ships. Our systems have proven their utility in the toughest military applications as well as in luxurious yachts requiring smooth, qui-et power. Owned by the Nordic-based private equity fund Verdane Capital, Marine Jet Power is represented globally through a network of sales and service agents in more than 30 countries.

Our international headquarters are located in Österbybruk, Sweden, with regional sites and sales & service offices in UK, US, Singapore. Our global presence enables us to deliver an out-standing user experience and service where ever you are located.

“If you want to excel in speed and power, if you are looking for a partner you can trust, Marine Jet Power is the choice.”

A pioneering historyMarine Jet Power is the result of the 2012 MJP acquisition of Ultra Dynamics. Our history has roots extending deep into the origins of water jet propulsion. For several decades, great engi-neering minds were working around the world to perfect the water jet concept. In the UK dur-ing the mid-60s, the Dowty Group, an aerospace and engineering conglomerate, was making drive units for military craft. In the US, Ultra Dynamics took over the marine propulsion sector of Ultra Hydraulics.

Meanwhile, in Sweden, MJP was created in 1986 as a joint venture between the Marinteknik Shipyard and the Österby Gjuteri, a foundry with specialty expertise in casting stainless steel. Within a year they had designed and delivered their first water jets – an installation that is still in daily service in the “Cinderella” fleet of large ferries in the Stockholm archipelago. Each of these pioneering companies saw the future advantages of water jet systems and made their special contributions.

Now, their skill, commitment and knowledge in water jet propulsion are effectively synergized to form today’s Marine Jet Power.

The EMEA RegionJukka Kukkula, Regional Director, EMEA: “Europe – Middle East – Africa (EMEA) is one of the three business regions at Marine Jet Power and at EMEA we serve all customer segments; governmental, ferry, yacht and workboat markets, whereby governmental applications are the largest. As of today more than 35 Navies and Coast Guards have chosen Marine Jet Power water jets to propel their fleets. Another important business area for MJP-EMEA is the energy segment and especially Wind Farm Support Vessels. Until now we have delivered equipment to 62 vessels, serving mainly customers in Denmark, Netherlands and the UK. Marine Jet Power has also found a new market in Italian yacht builders.

In the EMEA region our customers are giving us their trust because our products have become known for their reliability and the high quality and not at least, the world class after-market and service organization. Marine Jet Power is among the three major players in the EMEA water jet market and our market share is growing steadily. Political tensions boost government invest-ments and MJP see a lot of growth potential in the EMEA region, especially in the Middle East.”

The Americas RegionThe Americas region covers both North and South America. The US office for Marine Jet Power sales and service has been located in Columbus Ohio for over 25 years, especially with the MJP Ultrajet product. Focusing on revenue producing and governmental applications, MJP Inc supports customers from as far north as Alaska, throughout Canada and the US in Navy, Coast Guard and fisheries vessels, as well as in passenger vessels from the Northeast US coast all the way south into the Caribbean.

In South America MJP waterjets can be found on a growing number of pilot and patrol boats in Columbia and Peru, as well as in crewboats in Venezuela. We continue to work hard to expand into emerging markets in this region.

A major focus for the company is now on the crew and supply boat vessels in the off shore oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico. The demands of the 24/7 industry require durable, dependable waterjets and controls with DP capability, and we have invested in personnel and parts availa-bility in this business sector that has resulted very quickly in three vessels now equipped with MJP waterjets.

Regional Director Jim Campbell and his team look forward to a growing business and relation-ships in the region.

The governmental marketMarine Jet Power is the global market-leader in water jets for governmental applications. MJP provides a unique and unbeatable offer: products designed for heavy-duty applications matched with world-class service. We continue our expansion into the world wide govern-mental deals. Around the world MJP jets are used in vessels for patrolling, surveillance, peace keeping and chasing drug smugglers.

The product is extremely strong and well performing. MJP combines excellent high speed performance with patrolling and low speed maneuverability. Jets are generally very kind to the engine. The shaft speed varies very little with ship speed, load, sea and weather condition, minimizing the wear and tear on the engine and gear.

In more than 35 nations, governmental organizations such as Navies, Coast Guards and Cus-toms have selected Marine Jet Power products, thus raising the company to a position of market leadership in this segment. MJP is the natural first choice for Coast Guard and Navy vessels.

Marine Jet Power – the Swiss watches of water jetsSuccessful sea trials of Tampa Yacht Manufacturing’s latest 50 Fast Attack Craft won high praise for the performance of MJP water jets from the builder’s CEO Robert Stevens.

“We are very pleased with the performance of the vessel and the MJP water jets have given a huge performance boost to an already world class design” said Stevens adding that he consid-ers the MJP jets to be “the Swiss watches of water jets built from high quality materials and with an exceptional standard of fit and finish.”

The 50’ Fast Attack Craft is a carbon-fibre reinforced, GRP 16.15M (53’) LOA, patrol vessel with a beam of 4.43M (14’8-1/2”). The design has been a best seller for Tampa Yacht Manufacturing and exists in multiple mission configurations. The latest craft is the first to have been equipped with MJP water jets but retains the standard MAN R6 800HP diesel engines running at 2,350rpm, and a ZF 500 Gearbox at 1.125:1 Ratio. The MJP 350 DRB water jets installed are fitted with a six-blade stainless steel impeller.

During sea trials in June 2014 in Tampa Bay, Florida, the fully laden, battle-ready condition ves-sel reached an average top speed of 46.0 knots at full engine load and consumed 40.70 gallons of diesel per hour. Stevens was delighted at the performance boost. “This will make the MJP jets a key component in delivering the performance our customers expect” he said.

During the trials, acceleration performance from 0-25kts averaged 23.8 seconds. Another set of acceleration trials conducted from 0-35 knots averaged 34.4 seconds. All test were conducted with the vessel fully laden total weight of 48,596 lbs (24 tonnes).

The tested vessel was the first to feature implementation of the Ultrajet control system with MJP’s stainless steel water jets. This implementation allows the Ultrajet control system to be matched with the high performance duplex stainless steel MJP water jets.

We are one of the leading steel foundries in the Nordic region. We cast steel in most common alloys, both high and low alloyed depending on customer requirements.

Thanks to the extensive expertise and experience, we can supply castings of the highest quality with good dimensional accuracy, smooth surfaces and low post-processing costs.

Our motto is "customer focus", we are a flexible foundry with short lead times.
