Government-Funded Programme Architecture is a profession which is concerned with the design of our built environment – principally buildings of various kinds. Building design involves the creative arrangement of three-dimensional form and space which can be constructed to provide a fitting and comfortable environment for various human activities and experiences. It is concerned with the design of both the internal spaces and the external appearance of buildings. To do this would require knowledge and skills in many areas, such as how space and form can be arranged and organised to accommodate human activities, how materials and components can be assembled into an enclosure which is stable and safe for human occupation, and how the above can be done in a way that the overall effect is delightful and attractive. In other words, building design requires an understanding of people, technology and beauty, and it requires creativity and imagination so that the above can be integrated in an original and innovative manner.
