Thriller

Thriller  (also Suspense) is a broad genre of literature, film, and television programming that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements.

 Thrillers heavily stimulate the viewer's moods giving them a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, surprise, anxiety and/or terror.

Thriller films tend to be adrenaline-rushing, gritty, rousing and fast paced. Literary devices such as red herrings, plot twists and cliff-hangers are used extensively. A thriller is villain-driven plot, whereby he or she presents obstacles that the hero must overcome.

Conspiracy thrillerThe conspiracy thriller (or paranoid thriller) is a subgenre of thriller fiction. The protagonists of conspiracy thrillers are often journalists or amateur investigators who find themselves (often inadvertently) pulling on a small thread which unravels a vast conspiracy that ultimately goes "all the way to the top".

 The complexities of historical fact are recast as a morality play in which bad people cause bad events, and good people identify and defeat them. Conspiracies are often played out as "man-in-peril" (or "woman-in-peril") stories, or yield quest narratives similar to those found in whodunits and detective stories.

A common theme in such works is that characters uncovering the conspiracy encounter difficulty ascertaining the truth amid the deceptions: rumours, lies, propaganda, and counter-propaganda build upon one another until what is conspiracy and what is coincidence become entangled.A considerable part of the Conspiracy fiction works can also be considered as being secret history.

Crime Thriller  This particular genre is a hybrid

type of both crime films and thrillers that offers a suspenseful account of a successful or failed crime or crimes. These films often focus on the criminal(s) rather than a policeman. Crime thrillers usually emphasise action over psychological aspects. Central topics of these films include serial killers/murders, robberies, chases, shootouts, heists and double-crosses. Some examples of crime thrillers involving murderers like Seven.

Erotic Thriller A type of thriller that has an

emphasis on eroticism and where a sexual relationship plays an important role in the plot. It has become popular since the 1980s and the rise of VCR market penetration.

Political Thriller A political thriller is a thriller that is set against the backdrop of a political power struggle. They usually involve various extra-legal plots, designed to give political power to someone, while his opponents try to stop him. They can involve national or international political scenarios. Political corruption, terrorism, and warfare are common scenarios. Normally the political party in power has ulterior motives and often will wish for total Fascist control and will work alone or with a shadow cabinet.

Psychological ThrillerPsychological thriller is a specific sub-genre of the broad ranged thriller with heavy focus on characters. However, it often incorporates elements from the mystery and drama genre, along with the typical traits of the thriller genre. In addition to drama and mystery, many psychological thrillers contain elements of, and often overlap with, the horror genre, particularly psychological horror.

Elements that are related to the mind or processes of the mind; they are mental rather than physical in nature. Sometimes the suspense comes from within one solitary character where characters must resolve conflicts with their own minds. Usually, this conflict is an effort to understand something that has happened to them. These conflicts are made more vivid with physical expressions of the conflict in the means of either physical manifestations, or physical torsions of the characters at play.

Spy Thriller The spy film genre, which is mainly

the subgenre of thriller, deals with the subject of fictional espionage, either in a realistic way.

Supernatural Thriller In which the film brings in an otherworldly element mixed with tension, suspense and plot twists. Sometimes the hero and/or villain has some psychic ability.

Techno Thriller

Techno-thrillers are a hybrid genre, drawing subject matter generally from spy/action thrillers, fantasy war novels, and science fiction. They include a disproportionate amount (relative to other genres) of technical details on its subject matter (typically military technology); only science fiction tends towards a comparable level of supporting detail on the technical side. The inner workings of technology and the mechanics of various disciplines (espionage, martial arts, politics) are thoroughly explored, and the plot often turns on the particulars of that exploration.
