The North Australian Centre for Oil and Gas has a particular focus on corrosion-related issues relevant to the oil and gas industry in tropical environments. Corrosion is an issue for any industry, but especially for petroleum production and processing operations located off-shore or near the coast. Northern Australia’s extreme wet tropical climate makes for a particularly challenging environment. Darwin is, therefore, an ideal location to investigate corrosion prevention and control in the wet tropics, with the aim of helping industry reduce its maintenance costs and extend the effective life of plant and equipment. Many corrosion issues can be prevented or mitigated through appropriate design, monitoring and control systems. The Centre has a range of capabilities to assist operating companies with their maintenance and asset management programs. This includes corrosion assessment and materials testing services and consultancy in the following areas: Corrosion measurement Electrochemical testing Stress corrosion cracking Corrosion fatigue H 2 S and CO 2 corrosion Hot corrosion Microbial corrosion Computer modelling Inhibitors and coatings Weld testing Welding and surfacing Failure analysis NORTH AUSTRALIAN CENTRE FOR OIL AND GAS

Asset management

Asset management involves planning the life cycle of components from selection, design and fabrication, through repair and maintenance, remaining life assessment, and recycling or removal.

This includes corrosion assessment and materials testing services and consultancy in the following areas:• Corrosionmeasurement• Electrochemicaltesting• Stresscorrosioncracking• Corrosionfatigue• H2SandCO2 corrosion• Hotcorrosion• Microbialcorrosion• Computermodelling• Inhibitorsandcoatings• Weldtesting• Weldingandsurfacing• Failureanalysis

short Courses for industryThe Centre can also deliver tailor-made courses on asset management and corrosion. These would be suitable for petroleum industry employees (and also mining and some supply and service companies). Briefings on the latest developments in corrosion management can also be arranged.
