Your notable person must be admirable and memorable. He or she should have (positively) inspired other people and contributed something of value to human life or human beings.

No mass murderers, no violent criminals, no brutal dictators and no vicious tyrants: just great people who have given us hope, remedies, knowledge, understanding, music, ideas, new ways of thinking, inventions, plays, books and so on.

Your notable person might have saved us too – from poverty, tyranny, injustice, slavery or suffering.

You could choose a musician, a poet, an inspirational leader, an environmental campaigner, a great author or a brave military person who stood up to oppression.

For example if Michelangelo is your notable person you could bring a hunk of clay and a chisel so that people could try their hand at sculpting.

You are to create a bio-riddle for your person. It should:

1. Give clues as to who your character is 2. Reveal more and more of the person’s identity without saying exactly who it is 3. Rhyme, if possible for greater effect Your finished bio-riddle will be performed

Name of Notable in large lettersTimeline of Notable’s life

Pictures of the Notable person and their Life

Poster A summary of the main details of the Notable’s life.

Question box :The students choose ten questions that they feel confident they can answer about their Notable. Each question is written on a slip of paper or card and then put into a box to be drawn out by people visiting the display.

Personality box :This may contain symbolic items representing the Notable’s life. The box helps to fill the table and is also enjoyable for the students to create. An old shoe box is just right for this. Ideas for items that could go in this box will be discussed in class.

Costume: Keep this as simple and low-cost as possible. Use old clothes & borrow from friends.

Quotations: Printed out large, these can look great. They might be words said by the Notable person in a speech, or a quotation from a book written by the Notable, or words that someone else has said about him/her.

Model: A simple version of something the Notable invented, discovered or developed, if appropriate. Anything that is 3D makes students’ displays look fuller.

Activities: These could include quizzes, word searches, coloring competitions, or hands-on experiences.

Giveaways: Something small that represents the Notable in some way. (bookmarks withQuotations, poems, etc.)

Setting out your poster: You don’t have to set it out exactly like this. This is just a format to give you an idea of what should be on your poster. You can set it out in

any way that your artistic spirit demands.

Your Notable’s Name Date of birth – date of death

Subtitle: A phrase that describes your notable person in 4-10 words

The most important thing to remember is that teachers want to read what you think, not lots of words copied and pasted from the internet. Every word on your poster should be one you chose and wanted to use. Don’t use anyone else’s words.

Introduction

Write an introductory sentence about your notable person.

? Explain briefly why he or she is well known and

what made you choose him or her.

Mention any interests, beliefs or skills that you share with your notable person.

Work and Achievements

Describe the career of your notable person. You might cover his/her progress in the field he/she chose, greatest achievements, setbacks and disappointments and how your notable person coped with each experience.

Give examples to show your knowledge, explaining each point in your own words.

Early Life There are many potential topics and headings for this section: “Early Influences”, “Family Background”, “Early Friendships”, “Educational Experiences”, etc. You could make up headings of your own to suit your notable.

life of your notable influenced the kind of person he/she became?

Reactions of Others

What are the opinions of other people? What do others think of your notable and his/her achievements?

What influence has your notable had on other people?

In what way has your notable person had an

impact on the history of the world, own country or chosen field?

Difficulties or Hardships

What struggles did your notable person experience? How did he or she overcome obstacles? Choose a heading for this topic that relates specifically to his/her life.

Describe how your notable treated others and reacted to problems, injustice or obstacles. What character traits or personal qualities were shown?

Conclusion – Your Evaluation What do you most respect about your notable person’s achievements and personal qualities?

Which of your notable person’s talents or qualities would you most like to have? Why?

Remember to focus on learning as much as you can about your notable, as in a matter

of weeks you will be writing a speech to present and preparing yourself for

questions from an audience! By researching this deeply, you are preparing for your

presentation!
