Customer: Located in the heart of downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald is distinguished in being a four diamond luxury hotel. Known for its artistically styled exterior and state-of-the-art guestroom amenities, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald overlooks the largest urban parkway in North America, the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Having opened its doors in 1915, the iconic property often hosts the city of Edmonton’s most popular and finest events. Challenge: After finding its existing locking system obsolete, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald’s management team decided it needed to upgrade to a system that not only coordinated well with the hotel’s innovative and artistic style, but also integrated easily with its property management system. In combination with wanting to update the out-of-date system, the property desired to create a secure and efficient environment for its hotel guests while utilizing innovative technologies. Solution: Partnering with ASSA ABLOY Hospitality based on its reliability and leading services, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald opted to install VingCard Classic RFID door locks and the Visionline locking system. VingCard Classic RFID offers the latest radio frequency identification technology, while still providing the property with the classic design it seeks to match the hotel’s appeal. Visionline allows hotel staff to increase overall security for its guests by remotely monitoring all keycard activity from one central location. With the installation of both VingCard Classic RFID and Visionline, hotel staff can now monitor who is using their keycard and when, and be notified instantly of any unauthorized entry throughout the hotel. Whenever someone enters an area they should not have access to, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald’s staff can use ASSA ABLOY Hospitality’s solution to quickly deactivate that keycard to prevent entry into restricted areas of the property. Since the installation, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald’s staff has seen multiple benefits from both solutions. In addition to experiencing a seamless integration with the hotel’s property management system, hotel staff have seen a decrease in the time it takes to investigate and resolve any issues with guest keycards, along with saving time on regular tasks and processes. Results: VingCard Classic RFID not only coincides with property’s appeal and design, but also offers the latest in RFID technology. Hotel staff experienced seamless integration with the Visionline locking solution and its property management system. Hotel staff are able to remotely monitor all keycard activity from one central location, increasing security and efficiency. “Our staff knew that to keep up with industry trends while preserving the classic look of our guestrooms, we needed to install locking technologies that were not only innovative and secure, but also visually appealing. ASSA ABLOY Hospitality has been a trusted brand in the hotel security industry for years, and with that status in mind we knew its business goals tied in well with what we’re hoping to achieve with our hotel.” - Alex Saenz, director of housekeeping for Fairmont Hotel Macdonald
