Stanton Top 5
Cataloguer Philippa looks after Stanton’s
classical music collection. Here are her current
top 5 CD’s:
Story of my life: the ultimate collection, sung by
Michael Crawford. The original Phantom of the
Opera, with his heart-melting vocals, is also the
comic actor who had me in stitches in the BBC TV
series "Some mothers do 'ave 'em".
The best of the song books, sung by Ella Fitzgerald.
Ella's joy in singing shines through, enhanced by her
breathtaking improvisations and massive vocal range.
My hero, sung by Greta Bradman. A chart-topping
album of mainly opera classics, sung by the rising
star soprano and granddaughter of Sir Donald
Bradman, who featured recently on "Australian story".
Australian Voices, sung by The Australian Voices.
This classically trained choir are also at home with
the sounds of indigenous Australian music, quotes
from politicians, and lyrics based on Facebook feeds.
Complete string quartets of Beethoven, played by
Vegh Quartet. Beethoven's string quartets span most
of his creative life, from early explorations to the
concentration and serenity of his last works. The
players make me feel I'm listening to an absorbing
intimate conversation.
