red carpetWho looked hot on the

The prestigious GQ Awards were held at Grand Hyatt in Mumbai on Saturday, the 26th September. The starry event was filled with familiar faces and trendsetting looks. Many Bollywood celebrities graced the occasion while many were honoured with awards by the leading fashion magazine, ‘GQ India’.

We take a look at who looked hot on the red carpet at this year’s event.

by NiNder Kaur

Aditi Rao Hyadri looked mesmerising in a white gown. Actress Deepika Padukone also donned a similar white dress. Both ladies had opted for Gaurav Gupta creations, which had similar layered, ruffle details.

Even their styling was matchy-matchy with minimal accessories and middle

parted hair. Thankfully the two opted for drastically different beauty looks with Aditi choosing a more minimal look whilst Deepika accentuated her outfit with smoky eyes.

Others who scored high on the fashion scale were actresses Amy Jackson, Lara Dutta and Lisa Ray.

7ASIAN STYLE MAGAZINEIssue 7

Amy Jackson wore a black gown with velveteen that had a high low hemline. The sheer bust had just the right touches of white to breakdown the all-black look. Her hoop earrings and clutch added that extra bit of bling.

Between the blacks and the whites, Evelyn

Sharma shimmered in silver. However, the ensemble didn’t seem

to do anything for the beautiful Miss Sharma. Hopefully, her stylists

will choose something a bit more wow next time.

Lisa Ray also wore a black number. She opted for an

all-black dress completed with a black box clutch

and black pumps. She accessorised

with a pair of drop down gold and

emerald earrings.

Lara Dutta was one of the rare few stars that managed to bring some colour to the red carpet. She wore a pants and tunic combo that was finished with leather details.

Sleep eaSy, Sleep healthy!

Do you find it hard to get a god night’s sleep? Does your partners snoring keep you awake at night? Whatever the reason here are some healthy sleeping suggestions for a better night’s sleep

Sleep only as much as you need to feel rested during the day. Oversleeping leaves you feeling un-refreshed and ‘sluggish’ the next day. You will also have difficulty falling asleep the next night as oversleeping re-sets your natural biological clock.

Keep a regular sleep schedule by going to bed and getting up at the same time during weekdays and weekends. This will help develop a regular sleep-wake rhythm. Avoid napping during the day.

You cannot make yourself fall asleep, so don’t try and force it as this will cause

anxiety that will keep you awake. Set your alarm clock for the time you want to get up. If you can’t sleep don’t be tempted to look at the clock as this will cause an emotional reaction. You will worry that it is either earlier or later than you thought.

Increase light exposure during the day but make sure the bedroom is as dark as it can be at night. Blackout blinds can help.

Try to minimise unwanted noise such as traffic, aeroplanes and a snoring partner. Buy some ear plugs. They won’t block all environmental noise but they should dull it enough for you to sleep. If you have a snoring partner seek some professional help.

Keep your bedroom at a temperature that is comfortable for you. The ideal temperature is between 16 and 18 degrees. If you are too

hot, wear loose cotton clothing. If you are too cold wear bed socks.

Don’t over eat before bed as indigestion can be painful and keep you awake. Avoid alcohol and drinks that contain caffeine for at least 4 hours before bed. Although alcohol will make you drop off quite quickly, it will disturb your sleep after a couple of hours causing you to wake frequently during the night and un-refreshed in the morning. Caffeine is a stimulant and will prevent you from going to sleep. Similarly, tobacco is a stimulant and also addictive. Smokers tend to wake several times during the night with cigarette ‘cravings’.

Exercise regularly during the day, and at least 6 hours before bed. Exercise increases metabolism and core body temperature. This is undesirable

before sleep because the normal fall of core body temperature during the evening promotes sleep. It has been shown that insomniacs do not decrease their metabolism or core body temperature as much as normal sleepers do.

Anxiety and depression can prevent you from sleeping well. Try to make a conscious effort to think and talk about your worries and concerns during the day.

Avoid sleeping pills and medications as they will not be effective in the long-term. Many drugs carry serious risks of dependency, tolerance and rebound insomnia.

Try relaxation and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that incorporates a multimodal approach combining a number of behavioural interventions with cognitive therapy.

This edition we’re going on a journey to the South of India.

Whilst we in Britain have a geographical area of 130,395 km2 with a population of just of 64.5million. South India boasts of over 1.252billion people over 635,780 km2

Five states, two union territories, rocky plateau, river valleys’ and coastal plains, the south of India is extremely different from its Northern counterpart. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh each have their own culture, languages and by way of that many different cuisines.

Kerala a state in the south-west region of India on the Malabar coast was a prominent spice exporter

from 3000 BCE. With signifi cant production of coconut, tea, coffee, cashew and spices the place must be oozing with great food ideas.

Rightly so the food of Kerala is predominantly

non-vegetarian. You’ve got chicken, mutton, pork, beef and a thrilling range of seafood - mussels, crab, tiger prawns, king prawns, tiny prawns, oysters, sardines, mackerel, tuna and gorgeous red lobsters. Some of the popularly used ingredients in Kerala’s cuisine are pepper, cumin, chillies, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, turmeric and of course coconut! Tamarind, unripe mango, lime juice, vinegar and curd are also used extensively.

Here are some of the most loved and popular dishes of Kerala.

RETHINK YOUR NIGHTSTAND

If you’re anything like

us, your nightstand is a hodgepodge of essential items: Hand creams, charging cords, half-full glasses of water, quarter-finished novels. Hide some things away in a drawer; display small items in a beautiful tray.

8 Tricks to Make Your Bedroom Look Expensive

While sleeping well is essential for everyone’s well-being, sleeping in luxury is perhaps not something everyone can afford…. Well not anymore. Our experts have put together eight top tips to help get that luxury bedroom,

minus the big decorating budget. Now you can sleep well and in luxury.

OVERFILL YOUR THROW PILLOWS.

There’s something so luxurious about plush, overfilled throw pillows, which go a long way in transforming your bedroom from “everyday” to a bonafide retreat.

Add pillows or throws for that plump and luxurious look

2 ADD A HANGING LIGHT FIXTURE

The boob lights have got to go. Replace them with a statement-making hanging light or a glamorous chandelier. No need to spend too much money — These pendant lights add drama

and romance, or you can go with the more vintage chandeliers.

Statement making lighting can change the whole mood of your bedroom

REORGANIZE YOUR VANITY

Just like your nightstand, a cluttered vanity can make your whole bedroom look messy. Now’s a good time to buy some makeup organisers, like this inexpensive vanity organiser from Theholdingcompany.co.uk.

ADD GREENERY

What form this takes is up to you: A large fern? Small potted plants on your dresser? No matter how, adding a few plants helps a room make the final leap to luxury.

gorgeous gilded dresser, or a velvet arm chair — each bedroom has its own centre-piece, but make sure it’s the room’s focus. Don’t clutter the room, instead letting each piece stand on its own.

Elegant furniture such as a lounge chair or luxury foot stool add focus to your room.

KEEP THE FLOOR EMPTY

Granted, this is more of an organisation and cleanliness tip, but don’t let that belie its importance: A cluttered bedroom never looks luxurious. That means no stacks of books and piles of extension cords, either.

5

UPGRADE YOUR HARDWARE

There’s no reason to keep the default hardware that came with your dresser and nightstands (unless, of course, it’s already visually stunning). There are many ways to personalize the look: crystal, gemstone, copper, and more.

ShowbizPriyanka Chopra swaps Bollywood for American drama

Akshay Kumar is the

Man of the YearThe much-awaited GQ Awards 2015 took place in Mumbai where international icon and superstar Akshay Kumar swept the “Ultimate Man Of The Year Award”.

Riding high on the success of back-to-back blockbusters this year — Baby, Gabbar Is Back, Brothers — Akshay Kumar collected his award wearing textured dinner jacket with patent opera slippers.

Earlier this year, Akshay Kumar had made his debut on the cover of GQ Magazine and shared the news with his fans after tweeting: “Here it is everyone, my 1st #GQ Cover! Hope you not only enjoy the cover but find my tips useful as well. #GoForIt.”

Akshay’s win seals his status as a man of class and style for the masses. As well as several philanthropic endeavours, Akshay recently lent his support to the United Nations’ Global Goals campaign by coming on board as an International Champion and spearheading the #dizzygoals challenge.

The glamourous GQ Awards was attended by an array of Bollywood A-listers like Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Richa Chadda, Rajkumar Hirani, Rahul Bose among others.

Akshay Kumar will next be seen on the big screen in the forthcoming action-romance Singh Is Bling which is out in cinemas now.

She’s an award-winning actress, a former Miss World, a singer and a dancer. She serves as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and as a United Nations Girl Up Champion, and she is involved in efforts to promote the education of girls in India.

Now Priyanka Chopra has made the rare leap to American drama. Chopra is the star of “Quantico,” a drama premiering September 27 on ABC.

The new crime drama, is one of those pulse-racing serials that flashes back and flashes forward, and you’re never sure if anyone is really telling the whole truth.

Priyanka Chopra, 33,

In the series, Chopra plays Alex Parrish, one of a diverse group of new FBI recruits, each with a mysterious past. As the show cuts between the present and the past, Parrish becomes the prime suspect in a devastating terrorist attack in New York.

Chopra describes her character as a “Jason Bourne in a female form.”

“She’s smart, she’s sexy, she’s intelligent, she kicks ass, and she’s not afraid to take her life in her own hands. But the beauty of Alex is, she’s not macho. She’s very feminine, and she’s vulnerable,” Chopra said. “I love that she’s a celebration of the modern woman. She’s not just an ass-kicking, feeling-less robot.”

“Quantico” has been described as “Homeland” meets “Grey’s Anatomy.” Its cast includes Aunjanue Ellis as the assistant director of the FBI academy and Jake McLaughlin as a fellow FBI recruit and love interest, but Chopra’s character has the central role.

She said: “Besides the fact that it’s one of the most diverse casts I’ve ever seen on television. It’s super entertaining.”

Feast you eyes on this! You can now dine at the Great Hall in Hogwarts

Has the thought of dining at Hogwarts ever occurred to you? Dream no more.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is opening its doors to you to come and dine with them.

Opening up its very big doors, from December 3 this year, the tourist attraction has announced its “first ever festive feast” for adult fans of JK Rowling’s stories.

Over 18s will be able to dine in at the Great Hall. As you would expect there will be drinks and canapés. But not only that, you’ll also find a wand

at your dining table, with the whole venue redressed in the appropriate seasonal décor using real props from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Once you have devoured your two-course dinner, you’ll get to explore the rest of the set, and even dance the rest of the evening away by the Hogwarts Express as you enjoy a refreshing butter beer.

As magical as this may seem, the cost for you to dine like a witch or wizard will set you back by £230 per person.

Sam Smith is set to claim the first ever chart-topping Bond theme song with ‘Writing’s On The Wall’.The Spectre song currently has double the combined sales of its closest competitor, Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?’.

To date none of the previous bond themes have claimed the number one spot in the UK, with Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ and Duran Duran’s ‘A View To A Kill’ narrowly missing the position and peaking at number two.

Sam Smith is well on his way to a number 1

12 years after the smash hit ‘Dance With You’ (Nachna Tere Naal) reached number 12 in the UK Singles Chart, the reunion track that millions of fans across the world have been waiting for is finally here!

RnB sensation Jay Sean, the Punjabi Rockstar Juggy D and legendary producer Rishi Rich promised fans that they would come together to create a special track that combined the talents of these three global superstars.

FREAK is probably the most anticipated release of the decade and it’s sure to delight and surprise both hard core followers of the three stars, but is also

guaranteed to bring a whole new generation of music lovers to the fore.

Recorded in their hometown of London, Freak features the classic RnB tones that have made Jay Sean a force to be reckoned with and that took him to the top of the mainstream charts, combined with Juggy D’s instantly recognisable and powerful Punjabi lyrics, all meshed together by the magic that has made Rishi Rich The producer of choice for a huge array of global artists.

Rishi says of the experience: “When we originally got together we were just 3 friends from West London wanting to make music, we didn’t realise the impact it would have. The Rishi Rich Project really shaped all 3 of us in perfecting our craft. The chemistry we have when we get together in the studio is pure magic and we have a lot of fun. We are like brothers, always have been and always will be. Working on Freak was amazing. It’s hard to find artists who are really tuned into each other’s skills and bring

the best out of each other.”

Juggy D adds:“The fans really supported Dance With You and I think they’ll love this new vibe. Loved working with my brothers again we just about to turn up the FREAK-UENCY!”

Despite their crazy schedules all three artists were completely committed to coming together to recreate the atmosphere and build on the long term relationship that has always been part of their creative process.

Jay Sean says: “This song has been one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in all my time writing and recording, getting back in the studio with my best friends, my brothers, to do something special for our fans after over a decade, so much laughter and fun in the process. I hope our fans enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making it.”

ShowbizBBC takes on an X-Factor style method for Eurovision Song Contest

Is Sonu Sood working with Jackie Chan?

According to sources in Dubai, Sonu Sood is currently shooting for Jackie Chan’s next big Hollywood film Kung Fu Yoga. This out-and-out action film directed by Stanley Tong has Sonu, not just playing a role, but he plays parallel lead and will be shooting with Chan from start to finish. The film is being shot in Dubai currently and will then move to Beijing and also India. This is expected to be Jackie Chan’s most expensive action films.

Sonu last appeared in the movie Happy New Year, so fans are eagerly awaiting his return.

Its obvious to say us Brits haven’t had much luck when it comes to the Eurovision song contest. However, that could all change this year.

The BBC is reinstating the UK national final for the Eurovision entry but with an X-Factor-style twist.

Acts will be asked to submit an original track, then an industry panel will whittle the entrants down so the British public can choose who they want to represent the UK.

Host Graham Norton thinks the new search for a song is a great idea.

He said: “I think it really shows

that they take the competition seriously and the fact that the public will get the final say on who is sent to represent the UK in Stockholm next year is the icing on the cake!”

Hopefully, the new series will have the UK scoring towards the top half of the Eurovision scoreboard. It has been twenty years since Katrina and the Waves won it. We can only wait and see.

Jim Carey’s girlfriend commits suicide Kangana Ranaut- actress turned designer

Cathriona White, the on-off girlfriend of Jim Carrey, has been found dead after a suspected suicide at a property in LA.

Two friends reportedly found the 28-year-old photographer and model unresponsive this week. The police are thought to have

discovered pills next to her body.

She last tweeted on 25 September, saying she was “signing off” and hoped she had been “a light to my nearest and dearest”.

The two reportedly met in 2012 and have dated on and off.

“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled,” the 53-year-old actor said in a statement. “My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Bollywood’s Kangana Ranaut is all set to make her debut as a designer. The actress has worked closely with the brand to design the couture-like VERO MODA MARQUEE AW’15

collection. The new clothing line features vibrant colours, impeccable designs and avant garde silhouettes.

The actress herself will walk the ramp in her favourite pieces from the collection at the high-octane fashion show. Kangana, the actress turned designer, said, “My fashion philosophy is to follow my mood for the day and wear what makes me feel good. I am not a blind follower of fashion trends, instead, I carve my own fashion niche and this line is a true representation of that. I am happy that my collection for Vero Moda Marquee is inspired by my very own personal sense of style.”

about it. So I decided to shadow them for a bit at gigs and shows and took it from there really. I didn’t realize how niche the market was for female DJs until I began to learn. It’s now become not just a hobby but part of who I am.

Have you faced any challenges?

Of course. I think my biggest challenge was literally stating the obvious, being an Asian Female in the industry. There are a lot of stereotypes out there, one being that a degree in Media is far less superior to that of a law degree or a pharmacy degree. We all have our own paths in life and it doesn’t make us any higher or lower than the other. Being an Asian female within this industry has always been a little difficult. So as far as jobs and careers go, I believe everybody’s profession has a journey and if you want to break barriers, you can, nobody can stop you!

Who is your inspiration?

Sonia Deol is by far one of the most inspiring individuals for me. I’ve grown up watching her on TV and listening to her on the radio. My mum would watch her interviews with people like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and I used to say to my mum, one day I’m going to be sat in that seat. DJ Kayper is someone I also aspire to be like. She is probably

the only Asian female dominating the DJ scene for the girls out there and it’s so exciting to see. I hope one day I can make a name for myself just like she has.

What genre of music do you like?

Anything and everything! I think that’s what most people get shocked by when they get to know me. Most tend to relate me with the Asian scene because of my radio shows but in reality I’m far from it. I’ve grown up listening to RnB and Hip Hop. That was my first love for music. I love Garage, House, Dance, Reggae you name it! I am so diverse when it comes to music, which probably reflects in some of the mixtapes I’ve put out.

You have regular slots on Fever FM and All Star FM, how has that been?

My radio shows have made me into the person I am today. Radio is my life. I started off at Fever FM during my work experience, which led to a permanent slot. Over the years I’ve gained more and more skills and

ended up broadcasting three shows a week. Last summer I got the opportunity to go on board with All Star FM to host a weekly Urban show. It was one of the most exciting platforms for me as it allowed me to showcase more of the music I love. Being the only Asian female on there alongside some of Leeds top DJs was truly an amazing experience.

How does it feel to have your own show on BBC Asian Network?

Surreal. I can’t put into words how much it means to me. I have had this dream since I was young. I used to tell people all the time, watch me – one day I’m going to be on that mic, I’m going to be on that station, I’ll be running my own show. And here it is!

How did it all happen?

To be honest it happened in the most unexpected way ever. They happened to hear one of my shows on Fever, they got in touch with me and that was it. It literally all kicked off from there. I think the reason behind my proudness is that all

those years of hard work and trying to build a name for myself has paid off. That recognition has come with a lot of blood, sweat and tears. It’s not been easy. The day the announcement was made I was in Morocco and I had the worst Wi-Fi connection ever. When I was told it was a feeling I can’t describe.

How are you preparing for your show?

Right now I’m still trying to take it in to be honest. It’s just something I can’t believe is actually happening. I have so many ideas I want to put across, but obviously I can’t tell you too much right now. You’ll have to make sure you tune in every Sunday to hear what it’s all about!

What are you looking forward to?

Everything. I can’t wait to sit in that studio and do what I believe I do best! It’s the start of a new beginning.

What can people expect?

Lot’s of banter and great music. It’s what I’m all about. I don’t want to change for anything or

anyone; it’s just going to be me. What you hear is what you get!

Why do you think that there are so little Asians in the mainstream media?

I believe we lack Asians within mainstream in particular Asian females because they’re too scared to come forward. They’re too worried about the lack of support they are going to have. Build up the courage to show the world anything is possible. Just because you’re a girl does not mean you can’t be successful. We need more Asians to prove people wrong! We’re not just Doctors and Lawyers! We can be creative too.

What advice would you give to people?

I’ve seen a lot in life and I’ve also seen people being forced to do things they don’t want to do. No dream is too big. And always, always, ALWAYS be you. Remain original. And never let anybody put you down. Just like my dad once told me, “You just do your part and never burn bridges, they will need you someday”.

Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan

Being

by NiNder Kaur

She has had a four-year hiatus from Bollywood but Aishwarya Rai- Bachchan is back in her brand new movie Jazbaa starring

alongside Irrfan Khan.

With her absence in Bollywood we take a look at the time she spent under the spotlight in preparation for her comeback.

Career

No one would have imagined a student so bright in her studies would end up being one of the most popular faces in the world. She is ranked among the

top 100 most influential people in the world, and also ranked in 10 most beautiful women across the globe.

It comes as no surprise when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was thrown into the international arena in 1994 that she would be crowned Miss World. Early aspirations to forge a career as an architect fell by the wayside as she was quickly propelled into the world of Indian cinema.

Her title as Miss World put her on the fast track of the modeling business, where she landed lucrative jobs with PepsiCo, Inc., and Vogue magazine, and in 2003 she signed on as a spokes model for L’Oréal Paris.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had been one of the most sought after actresses in Bollywood. And she had to turn down several projects during the course of her career.

Aishwarya made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Iruvar (1997). The film was a critical success and won many awards.

Following on from that, Aishwarya also appeared in her first Hindi film release in ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ that same year.

Both films broke from the simplistic structure typical of Bollywood films at the time and helped to push Rai to

22 ASIAN STYLE MAGAZINEIssue 7

the forefront of the “New Bollywood.”

Rai established herself as the new “Queen of Bollywood” with her moving performance in Devdas (2002).

Devdas was the pivotal point of her movie career. The film received a special screening at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, and was selected by Time Magazine’s in its list of 10 best films of the millennium. The movie became the highest-grossing film of the year in India and overseas. Devdas won numerous awards, including 10 Filmfare Awards, and Ash playing the love interest of the protagonist won her second Filmfare award.

She followed with a critically acclaimed performance in Chokher Bali (2003). That same year she became the first Indian actress to serve as a jury member at Cannes.

The Bollywood actress was not just bound to Indian films.

In 2004, she appeared alongside Martin Henderson in ‘Bride and Prejudice’. Her next overseas release was Paul Mayeda Berges’s ‘The Mistress of Spices’ in 2005. Next, she appeared in ‘The Last Legion’, which at the time appeared to be a critical failure. She then went on to star in ‘The Pink Panther 2’.

She returned to Bollywood for the blockbuster Dhoom: 2 (2006) before releasing the English film Provoked: A True Story (2006).

We last saw her in the 2010 Guzaarish, where Ash co-starred with Hrithik Roshan and received praise for performing a nurse in the drama.

Personal life

In April 2007 Ash married Abhishek Bachchan, her frequent co-star and the son of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan in a union that joined two of the most powerful names in the Indian entertainment industry.

After celebrating their eight-year anniversary this year, Ash has adapted into the Bachchan family nicely. She has accepted the pressures of married life and conducts herself like a traditional Indian daughter, even to the point that she cooks for the rest of the family, despite having an army of chefs on standby. We take it she is not just a pretty face then.

Aishwarya’s four-year hiatus has been down to swapping Bollywood for motherhood. The actress got pregnant after signing Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine and had to opt out of the project unplanned due to her pregnancy. At the time Aishwarya’s

career was flourishing but she decided to put that on the backburner to embrace motherhood. Over the last few years, Aishwarya has devoted her time to becoming a full-time mother and has not compromised her time with daughter Aaradhya.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is known to have been associated with several causes from her eye-donation campaigns for more than a decade now to promoting stem cell banking now. The star has done her fair share of philanthropic work. She has also been long associated with UNAIDS and was also chosen as the International Goodwill Ambassador in 2009.

Controversies

Life hasn’t all been hunky-dory for the brunette beauty.

Being labeled as one of the most beautiful women in the world surely comes with its fair share of favourable moments as well as the not-so-pleasurable factors. Being Aishwarya Rai you are constantly under public scrutiny especially with regard to your work, lifestyle and of course

your style.

During post pregnancy, her weight gain became a national issue discussed in every possible medium.

However, the unfazed new mummy kept her cool and attended the 2012 Cannes Film Festival when the media attacked her for being overweight and not attending to her flabs. With Ash being an international personality and beauty icon the media were cruel to her and were quick to criticise her weight gain.

As admirable as ever, we love how Ash handled the criticism and continued as normal.

Before her magical love story became complete with Abhishek, Ash was dubbed for having a rumoured affair with her father-in-law and

23ASIAN STYLE MAGAZINEIssue 7

she also had a history of dating big Bollywood names.

Rumours stated that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had an affair with Amitabh Bachchan before her marriage with Abhishek, and that is one of the reasons Jaya Bachchan strongly disapproved of Aishwarya for Abhishek. Well obviously people were bound to talk when

Ash seemed to accompany Amitabh to every media event while their respective spouses were nowhere to be seen.

It is said it was during that period in 1999 that Aishwarya was dating Salman Khan during the filming of ‘Hum Dil De Chuke

Sanam’. At the time, it was the most talked about affair. Their relationship was under tremendous pressure from Salman and his underworld links that Ash feared for her and her family’s safety which then caused the couple to have a bitter separation in 2001. It was after their break-up that Aishwarya accused him of being physically

and mentally abusive. She was then reported to be dating actor Vivek Oberoi before settling down with Abhishek.

Aishwarya also found herself to be a target to yet another controversy. It was said that Aishwarya’s then-boyfriend Abhishek Bachchan and his family were upset with her iconic steamy on-screen kiss with co-star Hrithik Roshan in the film ‘Dhoom 2’.

Despite the minor lows in Ash’s life, and with accolades to her credit and Hollywood calling, this year Ash made her 14th appearance on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

She also featured on the cover of Vogue India magazine this year.

Now fans await the imminent return of Bollywood’s super queen, where the

41-year-old will be playing a lawyer in the upcoming movie-Jazbaa. Fans have already been going crazy over Twitter about the upcoming movie. Many have tweeted their excitement to see Ash’s return to Bollywood and hope that her anticipated movie lives up to their expectations.

With her comeback in tow and with the likes of Deepika, Katrina and even Kangana taking over the Bollywood top slots, will people be accepting of Aishwarya in her brand new movie? She has a lot to prove as she sits side-by-side to award winning actresses. Only time will tell if Ash still has game.

Jazbaa directed by Sanjay Gupta also starring Irrfan Khan, is releasing on October 9.

Split ends are common and, sadly, unavoidable. However, here are some simple changes you can make to your hair routine to prevent them from making an unsightly appearance.

Change The Way You Shampoo

When applying shampoo and conditioner, concentrate on the products that highlight strengthening the ends. By simply changing to strengthening shampoos and conditioners you will definitely start to see results.

The shampoo strengthens strands while the conditioner binds split ends together to lessen the appearance of breakage.

Tips for sidestepping

split ends

25ASIAN STYLE MAGAZINEIssue 7

Brush Gently

Hair experts advise that we should brush our hair on a daily basis in order to distribute the natural oils evenly threw out the hair, from scalp to ends.

Brushing your hair when wet can cause breakage if you’re not careful. Make sure to detangle strands with a wide-tooth comb.

When removing tangles gently brush hair from bottom to the top, in order not to create any static or frizz which can cause breakage.

Disguise with oil

Frizz makes breakage look more noticeable. Hair oils applied throughout strands or even just at the ends smooth out breaks and create a more even-looking finish. Apply argan oil from the mid shaft to the ends, because that’s where most breakage, and spit ends occur.

Avoid the heat when possible

Over-styling with curling irons and straighteners is the main cause of split ends. Apply a leave-in conditioner to protect your hair from the heat. When it comes to blow-drying, try to aim the nozzle at the roots and the mid-shaft because the tips of hair burn more easily. If you are not in a rush just simply let your hair air-dry.

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed- and gazed- but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850) was a major English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads.

"I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" (also commonly known as "Daffodils") is a lyric poem by William Wordsworth. It is Wordsworth's most famous work. The poem was inspired by an event on 15 April 1802, in which Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy came across a "long belt" of daffodils. Written some time between 1804 and 1807 (in 1804 by Wordsworth's own account), it was first published in 1807 in Poems in Two Volumes, and a revised version was published in 1815.
