    Asia Today: The Current State of Asia and How It Came to Be

    Prior to founding Zephyr, Mr. Barry was President and CEO of Rockefeller &Co., the investment management arm of the Rockefeller family, from 1983 to1993. Previously, Mr. Barry was employed by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc.from 1969 to 1982. Among other responsibilities, he was President of T.

    Rowe Price New Horizons Funds, Inc., then the largest mutual fundspecializing in small capitalization companies. Mr. Barry received an MBA

    from Harvard Business School in 1969 and an undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1966 where hemajored in Latin American Studies.

    Pierre-Franois Landry, Associate Professor of Political Science, received hisPh.D. from the University of Michigan in 2000. He has been affiliated withthe Research Center for Contemporary China since 1997. His research interestsfocus on Chinese politics, comparative local government, and quantitativecomparative political analysis. He is currently writing a book tentatively titled"The CCP and Local Elites in Post-Deng China". Articles in progress include"Explaining Party Membership in Urban China" and "GPS sampling for social science survey research inChina" based on an experiment in spatial sampling methodology that relies on the Geographical PositioningSystem to survey populations that are difficult to enumerate.

    With a distinguished career in the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Serviceand with China and government experience dating back to 1976, William C.

    McCahill, Jr. is an authority on Chinese government and politics. As formerCharge d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, Mr. McCahill played a keyrole in concluding the 1999 WTO U.S.-China Bilateral Trade Agreement.Before joining JL McGregor & Company, Mr. McCahill was the senior

    international business advisor of the law firm WilmerHale, where he helped foreign companies overcome thechallenges and complexities of doing business in China. He holds an AB from Boston College and completedgraduate studies in Sanskrit, South Asian studies, and the history of religion at Harvard University.

    Mr. Woo is President and CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. He is

    Professor Ben Liu has a Ph. D. in Marketing from the State University of New

    York at Buffalo,

    a Master of Art in Religion from the Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, a Professional

    Managers Program degree from Tunghai University. He speaks Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese,and Japanese. He is currently a professor of Marketing at the Lender School of Business at

    Quinnipiac University. His professional positions include: Managing Director at Teamwood Corporation,

    Taiwan; Purchasing Supervisor at General Instrument Microelectronics; Marketing Manager at

    ATW Electronics; and Export Manager at Chang-Shing Iron Works.

    Professor Liu researches in the areas of Cross-cultural, Service Quality, Customer Satisfaction & Loyalty, Trust, Internet

    Marketing, New Product Strategy, Buyer-Seller Negotiations, and Industrial Marketing. He teaches Marketing

    Management, New Product Development, International Marketing, International Business, Promotion Management

    (including Integrated Marketing Communication), Marketing Research, Marketing Strategy, Negotiations, Business

    Marketing. Professor Liu is a member of The International Association for Conflict Management (IACM), The Institute

    for Operation Research and Management Science (INFORMS), American Marketing Association (AMA), Association

    for Consumer Research (ACR), Academy of Marketing Science (AMS), and Strategic Management Society (SMS).

    Dr. Zhiwu ChenYale Professor of Finance

    Dr. Chen is Professor of finance at the School of Management at Yale University. Before joining Yale, Dr. Chen

    was Professor of finance at the Ohio State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Chen is

    well known for his leading research in the academic world of finance. His research covers a wide range of

    topics, with a focus on stock valuation, investments, and financial options and futures markets. Dr. Chen won

    the prestigious Merton Miller Prize in 1996 for his research on demographic changes and their impact on

    financial markets. He also received the Chicago Board Options Exchange Competitive Research Award in

    1996 for his research on the Japanese stock market and related derivatives products. He has also been active in

    portfolio management since early 1992. Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. in finance in 1990, a M.Ph. and M.A. in 1988, all from Yale University.He earned his M.S. degree in systems engineering from the Changsha Institute of Technology in 1986, and a B.S. in computer science from the

    Central-South University of Technology in 1983, both universities in China.

    Mark W. HeaphyPartner, Wiggin and Dana

    Mark Heaphy is the chair of Wiggin and Dana's Information Technology and Sourcing Group. His practice focuses

    on the sourcing and procurement process, from initial RFP through implementation and beyond. Mark has experience

    in financial services, healthcare, insurance, life-sciences, manufacturing, telecommunications and utilities.

    Dr. K. Thomas LiawSt. Johns Professor of Economics and Finance

    Dr. Liaw holds his Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He is the author of several books on investment

    banking and financial markets. His recent book publication is The Business of Investment Banking: A

    Comprehensive Overview, second edition, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2006. He also recently published an

    article on Chinas accession into the WTO and Chinas financial markets. In addition, Dr. Liaw has published

    in the areas of capital markets, insurance, banking, repurchase agreements, and risk management. He is an

    associate editor for Review of Pacific Basin Financial Markets and Policies.

    Dr. Liaws principal areas of teaching and research interests include asset management, capital markets, risk

    management, and investment banking. His current projects include risk management for financial institutions,

    equity and fixed-income trading strategies, and Chinas financial markets. He served as president of the Chinese American Academic and

    Professional Society for 2005. He is a director of a bank. Dr. Liaw serves as an advisor to financial firms. He speaks on various subjects of

    investment banking and capital markets at academic institutions, executive programs, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation conference, the

    World Bank symposium, Harvard China Review conference, and Information Management Network conference.

    Raghav NandagopalGeneral Partner, Exigen Capital

    Raghav Nandagopal is a General Partner of Exigen Capital with focus on investments in Financial Services,

    Media, Communications and Government sectors. Raghav has over 20 years of operating, technology and

    investing experiences with over 9 years in the PE industry. Prior to Exigen Capital, he was the Senior Vice
