RAHIMA DAWOOD TRAVELLING FELLOW 2008 The RDFT was started in 1987 following a meet-
ing between Dr Yusuf Kodwavwala and Tom
Mcnair, the then president of RCS(Ed). 2008 was
the 21st anniversary of the Rahima Dawood Trav-
eling Fellowship. The fellowship linked ASEA
and the Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburgh to
alternately fund a Traveling Fellow who tours
some ASEA COSECSA countries just prior to the
AGM and crowns it all by giving an oration at the
opening ceremony of the conference.
The 2008 RDTF was Bob Lane. He has been
linked with COSECSA as an external examiner
and Trainer of Trainers. His oration touched on
many issues including the challenges of surgical
training in the COSECSA region; the roles of a
surgeon; brain drain of surgeons from the region;
and the role of non–doctor surgeons. This was a
really detailed analysis of the challenges of sur-
gery in the region.
FAREWELL CHRISTINE EVANS
Christine Evans has been associated with COSECSA
from its inception. She has been an external examin-

the college. COSECSA has benefited greatly from
the input of Christine Evans.

an examiner and trainer of trainers, Christine Evans
