Roundtable of OEMs and Suppliers to commonly define standards with the goals to:
• increase competition that lowers costs and encourages innovation
• increase flexibility in choice of products
• Thus increasing quality of OEM‘s products and processes

Why did OEMS choose a collaborative work-style In the 90‘s, German car manufacturers were facing sincere challenges:
• Dependency on few suppliers due to incompatibility of systems or high integration costs
• This lead to a limitation of choice in regards to development and testing tools
• and a monopoly position of certain suppliers leading to higher costs

Definition of standards to integrate systems from different suppliers
ECUPenetration of electronic control devices causes problem of non-interchangeable tools and data
Devices
Many devices perform similar tasks but are not interchangeable;
OEMs to adjust their systems to supplier’s tools
Definition of standards that allow many / all tools to work together with OEM‘s system
Standardized data descrip-tion, format and API that allow exchangeability of data
DataSimilar data is generated by different systems and in different formats
difficult to analyse data in one common tool
Standardized solutions allow OEMs to choose best sup-plier for each individual task
QualityOEMs had to rely on one supplier in order to facilitate integration of tools / systems.
