XIV. Divine Healing

14. We believe in the Bible doctrine of divine healing and

urge our people to seek to offer the prayer of faith for the

healing of the sick. We also believe God heals through the means of medical science.

Healing Is God slective in who He heals?

Will God heal me?

In what ways does God heal?

If I do not get healed does that mean it was my fault?

What is the difference in how different Christian groups understand healing?

Our HealerHe said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” Exodus 15:26 (NIV84)

Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, Exodus 23:25 (NIV84)

The Lord will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you. Deuteronomy 7:15 (NIV84)

Affliction / Numbers 21:4-9

 They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way;

5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the desert? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” 6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died.

7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”

9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.

Jesus the Healer •  and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also

drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.  Mark 1:34

• And wherever he went–into villages, towns or countryside–they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.  Mark 6:56

• “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” Luke 4:18-19

Receiving By Faith • 49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child

dies.” 50 Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour.” 53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and all his household believed. 54 This was the second miraculous sign that Jesus performed, having come from Judea to Galilee. John 4:49-54

The Prayer of Faith

•  Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:13-16

• Luke 7:50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

• Luke 17:19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
