Life has been good to Eduardo Arranz-Bravo over the past two years.

He has reached new creative heights and I’ve never seen him in better spirits.

The Arranz-Bravo Foundation mounted an exhibition this past November that I

found particularly interesting: Arranz-Bravo i els llibres. It was a complete survey of all

the spectacular art books Eduardo has created since the start of his career. There

are several terrific projects dating from the 1960s to the present and include the

Faith series, a group of early drawings which were exhibited in its entirety at the

Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and were also reproduced in a small publication

of the same title. Although he says that he’s never counted them personally,

word has it that there are more than 500 different volumes! In addition, the

exhibition included catalogs that have been published about Eduardo and his

work during the past forty-plus years of his career.

Continuing its mission, the Foundation is currently in the

process of preserving the Arranz-Bravo press archive. There

are a large number of press articles dating back to the early

1960s that have been clipped, arranged by date and mounted on

acid-free boards. These will be scanned and added to the data

archive that the foundation is creating; it’s an impressive endeavor!

Included in the archive are ads for Arranz-Bravo exhibitions at Sala

Gaspar from the 1980s. Sala Gaspar was the premier

Spanish gallery of the time and was one of the first to

show the work of Picasso and Miró. Valuable, too, are

articles in the Brazilian press at the time of his retro-

spective exhibition in Sao Paulo, one of which from

the Jornal do Brasil has the headline: “Um Herdo de

Dali/The Heir to Dali.”

Along with its curatorial work, the Foundation continues its support of the next generation of artists. I was very

impressed with their summer installation for a young Argentinean sculptor, German Consetti, whose works show

beautifully in contrast to Arranz-Bravo’s, in both the indoor and outdoor space. In addition, with the Maestro’s

extension of the mural in the courtyard (above), the Fundacio Arranz-Bravo site looks more impressive than ever.

Speaking of murals, Eduardo did a public commission last year creating a mural for the Pau Vila de l’Hospitalet de

Llobregat school (below). The mural was part of an art-education course titled “Approach Art.” The purpose of

the program was to train teachers to improve communication about art. Eduardo and five lucky students created

the mural together.

In addition to his outstanding paintings, Eduardo has recently created some exceptional works in bronze. He

broke ground last year on a new sculpture studio designed by Jordi Garces, adjacent to his painting studio. This

project was many years in the making because the owner of the land next to his house was unwilling to sell for

more than twenty years — she finally relented and Eduardo now has a new crucible in which to master his alchemy!

The Foundation is planning a retrospective of his works in bronze and one of these recent creations should be

considered for your collection.

The quality of this new collection shows that Eduardo is healthy, vibrant and intensely inspired. Once again, I am

grateful to present an outstanding group of paintings, sculpture and works on paper to our friends and collectors.

Please enjoy this catalog and I hope to see you at the San Francisco or New York exhibition this spring!
