deburr up to 30 percent more cut parts than ever before in a very short period of time. ”The EdgeBreaker® 4000 Plus removes burrs from our parts within only a few minutes. This enables us to ensure the high quality which we are well-known for among our custo-mers“, explains Mr. Koch. Another ad-vantage of the machine: one employee is enough to operate the system.

The other employees who were pre-viously needed for manual deburring are now free to handle other tasks. This makes KTS more flexible. The company manufactures with lower costs, faster and achieves better re-sults. Naturally, the customers are also happy that they do not have to rework their cut parts. As a result, the EdgeBreaker® 4000 Plus simplifies the situation for both KTS and its custo-mers. This ensures the company with a key position in the production chain: ”With the machine we can deliver more quickly and react to customer requests rapidly. This strengthens our position as a high-quality supplier“, emphasizes Mr. Koch.

Modern parts

But that is not all. Thanks to the Edge-Breaker® 4000 Plus, KTS manufactures components which completely fulfill all of the common quality standards. The DIN standard 1090 has been enforced for several years and requires panels to be coated or otherwise protected against

corrosion. The problem here: cut parts need rounded edges to prevent the coa-ting from flaking off. Otherwise there is a risk of edge corrosion despite the coating. In this case the quality of the workpieces is at risk. This is not the case with KTS. Using the deburring machine the company produces opti-mally rounded and refined parts: ”The high quality results speak for themsel-ves. Using the system we fulfill both the legal standards and those of our custo-mers“, says Mr. Koch.

As such, KTS has set an important course for the future. The company which Mario Koch founded with his fa-ther regards itself as a competent part-ner for the regional steel industry. The ”Technology Park Steel“ established by KTS is intended to combine central tasks for steel processing under one roof. ”With the versatile EdgeBreaker® 4000 Plus from ARKU we have come a big step closer to this goal“, concludes Mr. Koch.

Augustdorf, Germany – When the cut pieces behave like rubber bands then material stresses are an issue. They cause the previously flat panels to deform after laser cutting. This re-quires extensive reworking as a result. The Danne Group also had to face this challenge. The Group‘s diverse metal processing companies manufacture laser-cut and flame-cut parts with additional production processes up to and including welded assemblies. The robust products are destined for well known companies in the mecha-nical engineering and agricultural machinery industries. As such, they have to fulfill the highest standards of flatness. That is why the Group in-vested in a modern leveling system. A few clicks were enough to find the right partner. ”Researching on the Internet we quickly found ARKU“, re-members Josef Spieker, Technical Director at Danne Group. ”In particular, we were immediately interested in the FlatMaster® 88. The system‘s capa-bilities exactly matched our require-ments.“ The experienced technical draughtsman monitors the systems development in the steel industry closely and has been proven right. Af-ter a comparison with possible com-

petitors, he determined that there is no comparable machine. The first call to Baden-Baden was followed by tests carried out using especially deman-

ding parts in ARKU‘s leveling and de-burring center.

Danne had three key criteria: optimum

leveling results, no reworking and lea-ner manufacturing processes Ten times more cut parts

The FlatMaster® 88 completely fulfills these requirements. ”The machine not only levels flame-cut and laser-cut parts between 5 and 15 mm with high precision. It also eliminates material stresses. As a result, we can efficiently process even complex parts without ad-ditional reworking. The subsequent pro-cesses such as edging, welding and me-chanical work involve significantly less adjustment and reworking“, confirms Josef Spieker. As a result, cost savings of 30 to 40 % are generally possible. Since being commissioned, the system has been processing 150 tonnes per month, 10 times the quantity of parts with the same number of personnel. ”Thanks to a roller conveyor manufactured especially for Danne with an evenness of 0.5 mm, the inspections can be carried out di-rectly on the roller conveyor itself. The parts no longer have to be tested sepa-rately on a measurement table and we save valuable working time“, summari-zes Mr. Spieker.

Ochsenhausen, Germany – Today, re-frigerators are more than just func-tional household appliances. They are design objects which communi-cate lifestyle. Liebherr Hausgeräte Ochsenhausen GmbH with its around 2,000 employees specializes in pre-mium refrigerators. The quality stan-dards for all of the parts processed are correspondingly high. Premium products must be free of any surface defects, in particular. However, only carefully cut and stacked parts can be processed to manufacture perfect refrigerator housings. That is why gentle stacking was a key issue when searching for a new cut-to-length line for the panels. ”Professional mechani-cal engineering“.

In addition, a high-output machine was also essential in order to supply the Bulgarian plant as well. After an intensive search the suitable candi-date was found: A cut-to-length line from ARKU with a decoiler for coils weighing up to 8 tonnes was chosen to provide the pieces. ”The company‘s organized structure and project hand-ling convinced us. That is professio-nal mechanical engineering“, states Tobias Duerrstein, Project Manager at

Liebherr. He was especially impressed with the system trials carried out at the leveling and deburring center in Baden-Baden. ARKU also developed the solution for Liebherr‘s greatest challenge here: stacking thin panels between 0.4 and 1 millimeter thick wi-thout any scratches. The solution fea-tures an air cushion stacker integrated into the cut-to-length line. The system blows air underneath the panels as they drop down, essentially providing

”padding“ as they descend onto the pallets. The machine‘s rotating shears provide high precision cuts. The sys-tem even processes panels with different characteristics with con-sistently high quality. ”This is the result of intense collaboration between both companies“, explains Mr. Duerrstein. The cooperation also included opera-tor training and parallel trials at the leveling and deburring center. ”In the process, we collaborated to ensure

that the surface of the panels meets our customers‘ high standards“, em-phasizes Tobias Duerrstein.

Achern-Gamshurst, Germany – Hard at work on road works and in quarries: the excavator shovels from ZFE GmbH. The experts for machine equipment manufacture products such as back-hoe excavators, tipping and loading shovels. The customers include cons-truction machinery manufacturers and dealers, both nationally and internati-onally.

The individual parts must be optimally welded to ensure that the diverse steel products are as durable as possible. However, this only succeeds with de-burred and rounded cut parts. For a long time, ZFE utilized angle grinders to achieve the desired results. However, the company rapidly needed a replace-ment for the manual work. For a good reason. ”The German industrial compa-ny is an international leader.

The many middle-sized companies are playing a key role in this, among them ZFE. This is also due to the high quali-ty of our products“, explains the Opera-tions Manager Timo Fischer. ”However, machines are essential in order to main-tain this quality and the competitiveness

over the long term.“ The solution was quickly found: ZFE discovered ARKU‘s comprehensive systems portfolio at the BlechExpo 2015 in Stuttgart, Germany.

A clear decision

”The scope impressed us. ARKU offers leveling and deburring systems from a single source. This was just what we

needed because we require a greater amount of leveling“, explains Mr. Fischer. At the Expo the company from Achern in Germany was primarily interested in the EdgeBreaker® 4000. The sys-tem also handled a convincingly broad range of parts. As such, it was the per-fect solution for the 10 to 30 mm cuts processed by ZFE. The purchase, in-stallation and commissioning all took place within the space of only a few weeks. Since the middle of January the system has been running perfect-ly – with visible success. ”With the EdgeBreaker® 4000 we not only have a better working climate thanks to less noise and dust“, emphasizes Mr. Fischer. ”We also process significantly more parts in the same time.“ Given that the throughput rates will increase consi-derably, Mr. Fischer is optimistic about the future. ”The system enables us to reinforce ZFE‘s solid market position and strengthen the German production location.“

Günther Oettinger, EU Commissi-oner for the digital economy and business, briefly visited ARKU in Baden-Baden on Feb 26, 2016 to-gether with politicians from the region. The President Albert Reiss

explained to his guests that his com-pany has to handle vast quantities of data and is therefore reliant on high-performance Internet. In addition, Mr. Reiss and the Managing Direc-tor Marcus Bartle are also focu-sing on the issue of data protection, especially with regard to Industry 4.0. Member of Parliament Tobias Wald emphasized that the refugee crisis must not result in other issues

such as research, development, the energy transformation and broad-band Internet being neglected. He wanted to indicate the challen-ges for mid-sized companies in the Baden region with regard to digitali-

zation. On his tour of the production halls, EU Commissar Oettinger had the opportunity to talk to the emplo-yees at the machines. Then there was a small refreshment involving a discussion of the effects of electro-mobility on the supplier industry for the automotive sector. ARKU‘s Ma-naging Directors thanked Mr. Oettin-ger for his visit.

Studying and vocational training at ARKU is more than just pure lear-ning. Everyone who participated in the voluntary work in Haueneber-stein in the middle of March experi-enced this. The playground of the St. Bartholomäus kindergarten needed helping hands. In the process an old slide was dug out and removed. The swing was upgraded with a new pit filled with woodchips.

ARKU‘s Managing Directors Albert Reiss and Marcus Bartle are proud: ”The young people have made a great social contribution and ex-pressed our company‘s connection with the region.“ The kindergarten teachers and child-ren are especially happy about the modernized playground. Now when the weather is good this means: ”Children, today you can play outside!“
