compact, economical machine that is also relatively easy to operate and maintain.”

The EdgeBreaker’s® standard calibrati-on feature recalibrates the machine to automatically compensate for the wear of the grinding media. This is the way to ensure consistent processing re-sults. “The oscillation of the deburring drum allows large burrs and heavy slag to be easily removed from the material for excellent results,” added Talis. The EdgeBreaker‘s® grinding blocks can be changed quickly and easily, which also helps productivity. Slag- and burr-free parts also help prevent unnecessary downtimes during downstream pro-cessing. The rounded edge also ensure improved paint adhesion.

ARKU´s versatile deburring and edge rounding machine is helpful to fabri-cators and manufacturers as a whole. It is especially useful for companies which utilize various cutting process such as laser, plasma and oxufuel

“The EdgeBreaker® 4000 decreases stoppages, increases workers safety, bolsters output and strengthens our

company‘s overall productivity,” said Talis. “Essentially, from raw materials to a finished product, this machine is

an invaluable asset.” www.misametalfab.com

Pittsburgh, PA – Forms+Surfaces de-signs and manufactures architectural products used in public spaces around the world such as furniture, lighting, elevator interiors and many other products. They are in some of the top retailers, restaurants, airports, uni-

versities and hotels. Previously, the company used plate rolls to flatten architectural screens that had been punch processed. However, the compa-ny struggled with getting the 20 ga. and 14 ga. stainless steel parts flat enough. “There is a certain amount of stress

that simply won’t come out using plate rolls,” said Bob Hoey, Vice President of Manufacturing for Forms + Surfaces.

It was during a tour of facilities in Ger-many, Austria and Switzerland, which were sponsored by Trumpf, that Bob

Hoey noticed something about all the shops he was visiting. “They all had ARKU levelers in them,” said Hoey. “I realized then that was the solution we needed, but with our limited volume of parts that require leveling, we nee-ded to justify the cost. So, we started by sending parts to ARKU in Cincinna-ti. Having access to an ARKU facility in the US, was key to us for acquiring the FlatMaster®. We had the proof that this was the machine we needed.”

Then an opportunity arose for the com-pany to purchase a certified refurbished FlatMaster®, and Hoey knew this was his chance. “I convinced our executive team that this was a rare opportunity to get a like-new FlatMaster®, and we jumped on it.“

The new leveler also allowed Forms+Surfaces to re-institute a de-sign it had previously used. “We had a design that included a border around the punched area and we had a tough time getting it flat with the plate rolls,” added Hoey. “With the FlatMaster®, we were able to bring back this popular de-sign, and it has made a huge difference in the appearance of our mating parts.”

Cincinnati, OH – The CompactFeed® enables you to carry out feeding and leveling processes with just a single machine. It processes all types of ma-terials, including AHSS. Customers can save up to 60% of floor space com-pared to coil lines with a loop and pit. For the compact-form feeder-leveler there is no need for a loop pit, therefo-re reducing the length of the line. The line is for coils weighing up to 20 tons and up to 1,500 mm wide.

Top companies around the world uti-lize ARKU CompactFeed® coil lines for thick materials. They reliably process metal coils with a thickness of 4 mm up to 18 mm. For very thick materials, the press line can be up to 10 meters shorter compared to a regular coil line.

Alternatively, the compact-form fee-der-leveler works great with fineblan-king presses; saving you square foot-age. That is the case for Feintool. The company runs 16 ARKU CompactFeed® lines and 2 tandem lines in its two Cincinnati locations. „Our location is predominantly contract work, but sup-

ports the sale of our fineblanking ma-chines,“ said Christoph Trachsler, CEO Feintool North America. „The contract work requires that we switch materi-als frequently. With the CompactFeed®

we can change coils in less than 5 mi-nutes.“

The Feintool team also values the small footprint of the ARKU compact lines. Floor space is at a premium in high-production operations. „The compact lines give us feeding and le-veling functions in a small amount of floor space,“ Trachsler added. „The value of this cannot be overstated in high-volume production facilities.“

CompactFeed® lines were developed more than 30 years ago and have be-come the new norm in metal forming. With more than 400 compact coil lines in operation, ARKU has saved over 5 million square feet of space on custo-mers‘ production sites - that‘s more than 100 football fields. Olean, NY – Two discussions between representatives from ARKU and Cutco led the knife maker to a leveling solu-tion that begins the elimination of an entire process. “We get a lot of bowing

and twisting as a result of our heat-tre-ating and hardening processes and we were looking for an automated alterna-tive to hard straightening; which takes place after the blades are hardened,“

said Paul Eade, Processing Enginee-ring Manager for Cutco. “We attended a technical seminar of the American Knife Makers Association where we saw Nicholas Miller, General Mana-

ger from ARKU Cincinnati, Ohio hold a presentation on the advantages of au-tomated leveling. We were impressed with what we heard and a deal was strucked at a machinery show a few weeks later to send an EcoMaster® 25to Cutco on loan.

Cutco’s 440A stainless steel goes through a variety of heating, cooling, polishing and hollow grinding proces-ses, which all can cause the blade to bow. The previously used hard straigh-tening process is similar to peening and it induces stresses into the material. “This is very labor intensive, and it was costing us as much as $.27 per part for that process alone,” added Eade. “We were spending as much as $1 million per year on straightening and now we hope to cut about 70%“.

“Using the EcoMaster® versus the me-thods we used previously was like go-ing from a tricycle to a corvette,” added Eade.

Lockport, NY – As its name implies, Custom Laser, Inc. is a custom manu-facturer of component parts for a va-riety of industries including furniture makers, heavy equipment OEMS and architectural structure suppliers. The family-owned business has grown from

a single laser engraving machine ope-rating out of a garage, to the largest provider of laser fabrication in the state of New York.

Custom Laser is ISO 9001 certified and provides laser cutting of sheet, plate, structural tube components, as well as laser welding, laser marking, artistic fabrication, water jet cutting and ma-chining of steel and aluminum. Once cut, parts require leveling due to inter-nal stresses within the material. Prior to acquiring the FlatMaster®, Custom Laser was running two shifts (about 18 hours) of manual flattening per day. The new leveler had an immediate impact, cutting flattening times in half. The company now runs one shift of leveling and is receiving high quality parts, as well as meeting flatness tolerances as tight as .010 inches.

“The FlatMaster® allows us to plan pro-duction much better,” said Gary Brock-

man, President Custom Laser. “We work with various materials in one-eighth, one-quarter and one-half inch thickness and our manual leveling times were in-consistent. The automatic leveler hand-les anything we throw at it in just one pass, so we can plan production runs

and meet customer turnaround times.” Prior to acquiring the FlatMaster®, the company sent parts for testing to Chad Ellis, Toll Processing Manager at ARKU in Cincinnati, Ohio and main contact for Mr. Brockman. The results were re-turned with impressive improvements. “We would take half the parts from a heat run and send them to ARKU for leveling and leveled the other half in-house,” explained Brockman. “When we compared the results, the ARKU flattened pieces produced much tighter tolerances on formed parts.”

Next, the company plans to use the FlatMaster® to provide contract-leveling services for customers. “This machine not only helped our current business, but it has allowed us to expand to new areas,” said Brockman. It’s really had a positive impact on our overall opera-tions.”
