SAFE RESPECTFUL LEARNERS
Dear Parents and Carers, What a great Education Week we had at Bargo Public School. Aboriginal Education Performance All students were treated to a very lively and interactive display of Aboriginal culture from Troy Allen of the Bundjalong Nation (East Coast) people. Troy provided a humorous fun atmosphere that gave the students opportunities to hear about Dreamtime stories, look at artefacts and learn the language of the Bundjalong people. Troy was even good enough to have a yarn during lunchtime with our Aboriginal Culture Group and engaged them in some face painting techniques. Athletics Carnival The Athletics Carnival last Thursday was a sensational whole school event. I’d like to thank Mr Hockey for his exceptional organisation as carnival convenor, Mr Little for his valuable assistance setting up and our teaching staff who also setup and coordinated various events over the day. Congratulations to the students for the way they competed and encouraged each other during the day. I witnessed various examples of students being great sports at all the events. Well done to all for trying their best and to those who were successful in gaining a position on the team to represent Bargo PS at the Razorback Regional Carnival. A full athletics report will be filed in the week 6 edition of the newsletter. Education Week On Friday, we were joined by many parents, grandparents, friends and community members to celebrate Education Week 2018. Each classroom was able to open their doors and provide an insight into the teaching and learning that occurs everyday at Bargo PS. The theme for the week was ‘Today’s schools—creating tomorrow’s world’, and I know there were classrooms that provided learning experiences for parents and carers to view that encompassed critical and creative thinking—what is required for their future.
Following the open classrooms it was great to see so many parents, carers and family members enjoying a brilliant day in the sunshine, taking the time to read a favourite book and enjoy a picnic lunch. Thanks to all those who attended the morning session we really appreciate your involvement in student education at Bargo PS. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent teacher interviews have been occurring since Monday of this week and what a great response we have had. At last count over 230 students had an interview scheduled with a parent and their teacher to discuss learning progress and areas for improvement. Teachers have really valued the opportunity to meet so many parents, and we thank you for using the new online booking system so effectively. A big thank you to our dedicated staff who have made themselves available throughout several afternoons and in particular Tuesday evening to allow enough time for families to have an interview. If you haven’t had the chance to have an interview this week, you can still contact the school to make an appointment. Communication Good communication is a vital ingredient to ensuring everyone involved in schools is well informed. We are always looking to improve our practice in this area so our families ensure they are aware of what is occurring and of any upcoming events at our school. There are several platforms for our school to communicate with our parents and community—the newsletter, the school website, the Schoolstream app and School Facebook site. Some class teachers are also able to communicate either through the Seesaw or Class Dojo applications, while parents and carers can call the school anytime. Each week we will publish what events are on for that week on School Stream and Facebook, while some reminders may also come to assist family
organisation. For those families who don’t have access to these applications, the school newsletter has upcoming dates and our office staff are more than willing to answer any enquiries for you over the phone. Kindergarten 2019 As we move through Term 3, we start to prepare for 2019 and in particular the new arrivals that will commence their schooling in Kindergarten for 2019. If you or someone you know of has a child of school age intending to enrol for 2019 could you please contact the school so we can ensure they have all the information they require for our Kindergarten Expo and Orientation sessions. Myself and support staff will be making visits to the local preschools in the coming weeks to encourage the parents to attend Bargo PS, however not all children attend pre school so again encourage those to contact the school to complete the enrolment process. Thank you again for your attendance at our events over these past weeks. We value your support. Enjoy your week. Regards Ben Green Principal
