Argentina’s Culture

The Flag
What does the flag represent?
• The light blue on top, the white on the middle, the other light blue on bottom, and the bright yellow sun with a face on it represents the Sun of May.
• The colors represent the clear sky and the white snow.
• The sun is the Inca god Inti
The People
• 85% of Argentina’s population comes from Italy, Spain, Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Poland and the Middle East
• 93% of the population is catholic
Meeting and Greeting
• A handshake shows respect when greeting someone.
• An hug and one kiss on the cheek is common between friends and family.
Body Language
• Argentines stand close to each other when speaking and they don’t back away
• The OK and thumbs up gestures are considered rude.
• Hitting the palm of the left hand with the right fist means I don’t believe what you are saying or That’s stupid.
food and Entertainment
• To call a waiter you have to raise your index finger
• Be on time for lunch meetings, theatre and soccer
• The popular dance in Argentina is Tango

• When someone gives you a gift you have to open it right away and show appreciation
