• BOUND notebook for labs (i.e. a “composition” book) – NO EXCEPTIONS – We have already checked for these, thank you.

How Are Your Students Graded?• This class operates by points

• All assignments will be awarded points based upon the amount of work/effort required

• A rubric will be provided for labs and projects in advance

• I try to update Power Grade at least once a week (I did today), however, some weeks are worse than others… please bear with me.

• Every quarter will have at least ONE opportunity for extra credit

• Expect your student to have homework every night (so far this has not been the case)

Miscellaneous Details• ALL school RULES apply, so students are

encouraged to read their handbook (in agenda books) and prepare to be held accountable.

• Larger assignments (tests, projects, take home quizzes) take longer for me to grade and therefore will NOT be graded by the next morning… I do the best I can.

• Pop quizzes ARE an option • I am available for help after school, but I

do request a heads up

Non-Newtonian Fluid Day

• October 8th (Friday before Columbus day long weekend)

• Cornstarch + water baby pool o’ fun!• We rent a cement mixer, borrow a baby

pool, and buy over 300 lbs of cornstarch• The Chemistry department is asking for $1

“donation” per student to cover the above costs– We need about 1 lb of cornstarch per student

How can YOU help?

• Talk to your student about what they are learning

• Try to stay positive about Chemistry (even if you aren’t a big fan)

• Let me know if you hear any complaints or concerns about me personally or the class

• Keep me in the loop if something is going on in your students’ life and might affect learning (I don’t need details, just would appreciate a heads up)

• THANK YOU for all you do!
