Employee Spotlight: Austin Lee—Steam Plant

What is your job at Facilities?

Electronics / Instrumentation Technician

What do you like about working at Facil-ities? Knowing that each day I come in to work I am going to be presented with a new challenge at the steam plant.

What is the funniest thing you have seen/experienced at work?

Watching a contractor being pulled out of boiler 5’s front after he got stuck on the boiler bridge and also the aftermath of one more turn.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or inter-esting job you’ve ever had?

I used to do asbestos abatement. In doing this job I had the opportunity to travel the state and visit a lot of small towns I would have otherwise never ventured to. The most interesting before the steam plant would have been Menards in Bis-marck. Especially on Black Friday and watching someone try and load a one piece shower on top of a car.

Tell us a little about yourself and/or your family.

My mother (Vickie) and father (Myron) are both retired and I have an older brother (Shayne), two nephews (Keaten and Ryland) and a niece (Breynn).

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

I ride my bike to work every day (before my shoulder surgery), yes — even in the winter - and in 2018 I rode over 5000 miles.

Motto or personal mantra?

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present mo-ment.

What do you like to do in your spare time: hobbies/interests, etc.?

I enjoy riding my different bikes throughout the year through ei-ther training rides, recreational rides and variety of races throughout the state. Austin Lee

Recycling is averaging 21%, which is 2% less than the past 3-year average. Currently many departments across campus are on the move. Many items can and should be recycled; recy-cling can save costs while minimizing our im-pact on the environment. If you are involved or impacted with the campus moves, please recy-cle or encourage recycling as much as possible. Special arrangements for additional recycling receptacles, extra pickups, or non-typical recy-cling requests are available through our recy-cling partners. We encourage you to make sug-gestions of possible opportunities to your super-visor or contact Michael at 72333 or email to [email protected].

New Uniform Purchases: Coming very soon…Website is being developed over the next few weeks and will be presented to Management for approval. The new process will be, Annually we will open a website that will have a list of multiple items available for you to choose from. Just like ordering from any clothing compa-ny online. You will be given a budgeted $ amount to make this purchase, which will be determined as we get closer to opening up the website. Your supervisor will be the first approval level on the purchase and another person will also review and then the order will be placed.

All uniform items will come into the warehouse and be pre-labeled with your name for easy distribu-tion. The hardest thing for all of you to do is make sure you have the correct size(s) for what you ware. Once the UND Logo is embroidered we will not be able to return them for another size, so please make sure you have a good handle on that piece and things will flow quickly.

We will only stock a small amount of T-shirts in the warehouse once this new process takes effect. replacements per the supervisor request.

We do have the old uniform items available in the warehouse so if you need uniform items; now is the time to get them before they are all gone.
