Daily Qur’an Reading Practice Allah the almighty has bestowed His best grace on mankind when He sent down the glorious Qur’an upon His last and best prophet Muhammad (S). Muslims cannot disagree on the fact that the glorious Qur’an is the best gift and blessing from the creator for guiding the mankind onto the straight path. In the opening chapter of the Qur’an, we asked Allah, the sustainer of the universe, to guide us onto the straight path. The chapter described the path that some people before us have taken. As Muslims, we believe every Prophet and Messenger of Allah preached the belief in the Oneness of Allah and that all worship was to be dedicated to Him alone. “Not the path of those who incurred Your wrath or those who went astray”. We always ask our Lord to keep us away from the paths taken by people: those who knew the truth about religion and yet refused to act according to it, and there brought upon themselves the wrath of Allah and people were those who made their religion suit their whims and desires and are thus went astray. In the second chapter of the Qur’an, we receive further details on guidance, when Allah stressed that the Qur’an is the book or manual for receiving true guidance. This is because the Glorious Qur’an has sufficiently explained the formula which would help the entire righteous servants of Allah to receive His pleasure. Interestingly, the Qur’an offers a range of benefits for the believers. Simple recitation of the Qur’an alone offers enormous amounts of rewards. Reading each letter of the Qur’an brings in a minimum of ten rewards. The Prophet of Allah stated that whoever reads a letter from the Qur’an, he will be blessed with ten rewards and ‘Alif Laam Meem’ are not a single letter but each of them are separate letters which bring in a total of thirty rewards. As the month of Ramadan is approaching, the desire for engaging in reading the Qur’an becomes extremely relevant and important. It is also important to note that learning to read the glorious Qur’an, without major Tajweed related mistakes, is an individual duty upon every Muslim. Spending sufficient time and wealth for achieving this goal is worthwhile for all of us. In order to assist our students to excel in reading the Qur’an, the Australian International Islamic College always looks into diverse methods. The college offers whatever is within its reach to help each individual student. Each year the college conducts an annual Qur’an recitation competition and invites prominent Imams to judge the standard of Qur’an recitation of our students. Recently, the college has introduced a regular Qur’an reading and memorising program that ensures children read some portion of the Qur’an every day at home. We believe that the main obstacle on the path of their reading skill is their reluctance to read the Qur’an daily at home. With our new program of daily recitation chart, children are more likely to develop a lifetime habit of reading the Qur’an Insha Allah. This program has currently been running mainly in the secondary college. We ask our lovely parents to ensure that your children read the given a portion of the Qur’an every day and that you sign in the column against the respective days. Another initiative is to provide video clips for each page of the books of Qiraa’atee so that those students who were not present to learn the Quranic foundation lessons would be able to catch up and read the Qur’an at an accelerated pace. Please contact the college imams for further details May Allah bless us all with a Qur’an loving generation, Ameen Imam Yousaf Thaqafi, Islamic Arabic and Quran Studies - Secondary department
