FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

First Calvary, it’s Palm Sunday, but things are different this year. With our heightened awareness and concerns for our health, our worship looks different, but it is still there. We still worship God….we still praise God…. we still recognize the sacrifice Jesus made for us that we celebrate during this time….and WE STILL TRUST GOD!! Thank you for your dedication to the Cause of Christ….for loving each other and for loving your Church. We are still in prayer for the World, according to The World Health Organization, we are in a worldwide crisis! But how many of you know and believe, that when it’s a crisis it’s Christ Time! As I will preach today, “Through It All” we must learn to Trust More and Be Diligent concerning our wellness in 2020. This has been a unique season and these remaining days leading into Resurrection will be even more unique. Stay tuned on how we will do Maundy Thursday Worship and Resurrection Morning! Allow me to take a moment to share some information about Palm Sunday, which we celebrate today. Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem as a humble king on a donkey, on His way to death on a cross. As He enters, people spread their clothes on the road along with branches while shouting “Hosanna” or “save now.” Jesus’ entry can be viewed as the beginning of a victory march towards death and over death, which is why the people cried out “save” to Him. Though Jesus is ultimately on His way to the cross, there is still a mood of celebration on Palm Sunday because there is recognition that Jesus is “King Jesus”! Ultimately, He wins the victory, and He is the only one who can save us. Many churches also call Palm Sunday "Passion Sunday." Biblical references to Jesus' entry into Jerusalem can be found in Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19: 28-44, and John 12:12-19.

When Jesus rode into Bethany, people were in disarray. Some were cheering and others were calling for His death, but “Through It All” God got the Glory! During this time let’s allow God to get the Glory! I am aware that this can be a challenging time for givers like us, but please remember that even at this time, we can still give…. use the Online Giving that is available on the Church website, or feel free to mail your tithes and offerings as we move through this time. Of course if you want to come and bring your tithes, yes we will receive it. I am reminded that FAITH will see us through and it’s Faith that God is looking for us to show. April is here and on top of our other health concerns, let’s add this… If your sinuses and allergies are ackin’ up….then it must be officially Springtime! It is my hope that as we “spring” into this new season outside, we will remember to “spring” into action, even in our homes. Call someone and have a good ole conversation….text someone….put a card in the mail….and then, for each of us….go outside, go for a walk, sit and enjoy the God’s natural beauty….and if you are inside, watch a classic movie, cut on some good music and dance….read a good book--or the Bible--or a devotional.....do something to fill the time. God’s got this all under control…. Just sit and watch Him work….and be smart and be safe….and BE WELL. First Calvary, never forget that we are truly AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

“Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You…” Jeremiah 32:17, NASB "Give God Room to Work on Your Behalf…” Do you need something to build upon to start today? Do you need a good enough reason to get out the bed after yesterday’s challenges? Is there any reason to hope that today will be better than yesterday, or, that it will be better than countless days of difficulty? Here is some good news to get you going. God can do anything! At times we tend to forget who we are dealing with. The God that we pray to and believe in is creator of the universe. The heavens and the earth are His handiwork. The sun, moon and stars are mental manipulations of His thought process that produced something we can see, admire and experience. There can be no doubt in our hearts and minds that God is THE all-powerful being we need in our lives. Whether the sun is shining, or the rain is cascading from the sky and pooling at our feet, God is part of it all.
