Congratula*ons St. Peter’s Newly Confirmed Candidates!!

Dear newly confirmed candidates,

We sent you out last Sunday with a blessing in anticipation of the celebration at the Cathe-

dral. Now, after the celebration, I offer this insightful excerpt of St Augustine from his sermon

thirty four ‘Sing to the Lord a new song’ to express our desire that you continue to walk with

us.

“Everybody loves; the question is, what does he love? Consequently we are not told not to

love, but to choose what to love. But how can we choose, unless we are first chosen? We can-

not love unless we are first loved. Listen to the words of John the apostles: ‘We love, because

he first loved us.’ If you search for the reason why a man loves God you will find no other

reason at all, save that God first loved him. He gave us himself as the object of our love, and

he gave as the source of our love. If you wish to know what he gave as the source of our

love, you can find a clearer explanation in the words of the apostle Paul: ‘The love of God is

poured out in our hearts.’ Where does it come from? From ourselves? No. Where then?

‘Through the Holy Spirit, who has been given us.’ Since, then, we have such assurance; let us

love God by the gift of God. […] God offers himself to us; there is no need to offer us more.

He calls out to us: ‘Love me and you will possess me, because you cannot love me unless you

possess me.’ My dear brothers and sons, fruit of the true faith and holy seed of heaven, all

you who have been born again in Christ and whose life is from above, listen to me; or rather,

listen to the Holy Spirit saying through me: Sing to the Lord a new song.”

I beg that God helps you, newly confirmed candidates, to discover this beautiful reality of

His concrete and detailed love in your life within your relationships with your family, sponsors

and the ongoing friendships we offer here at St Peter Church.

Send forth Your Spirit Lord, and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the

earth.

Your pastor, Fr. Ettore Ferrario F.C.S.B.

INTO THE DEEP… “Go into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4)...

GAUDETE ET EXSULTATE - REJOICE AND BE GLAD (Mt 5:12):

This is the title of the latest apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis.

This is a beautiful document, which in light of the tradition of the

Church, illumines for us the path to holiness. As Pope Francis states in

the beginning of his exhortation: “My modest goal is to re-propose

the call to holiness in a practical way for our own time, with all its

risks, challenges and opportunities. For the Lord has chosen each

one of us “to be holy and blameless before him in love (Eph. 1:4).”

We encourage you to read and meditate this text of our Pope as a

great opportunity to go into the deep of our universal call to holi-

ness. You can find the exhortation on the Vatican website at: http://

Be a part of a legacy much larger than any one of us by contributing to a fund that ensures St. Peter will remain viable long into the future. Divine Mercy Sunday: Father Ettore wishes to thank all who participated in the beautiful Divine Mercy Sunday prayer service. It well attended, with prayer time, confession and recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 pm. A spe-cial thank you to the Council of Catholic Women who pur-chased the beautiful picture of the Divine Mercy that was on display.

As we are now two-thirds of the way through our capital campaign, let us Rejoice and Give Thanks that we have been able to build and maintain this beautiful and sacred space to worship and build community. Thank you to all whom have pledged and contributed.

The progress on the campaign thus far has been tremen-dous:

• In the last four years, we have paid off more than $2,500,000 on the principal of our mortgage

• We maintain a good fixed interest rate with Premier Bank on the remaining balance

• Over 48% of our pledges have been fulfilled

However, building from this success, we still have a great deal more to accomplish:

• We have a remaining mortgage balance of $2,500,000

• We continue to pay over $275 per day in interest on that balance

• Our progress in pledge payments has slowed in the last two years.

To me, the most striking number is that daily interest. What could we be doing for our community with an extra $275 a day? How could our parish mission be better fulfilled with an additional $8,500 a month? What more could we be doing to continue the saving work of Jesus Christ without that additional cost of OVER $100,000 PER YEAR IN INTEREST?

With less than two years remaining in the campaign, we need to press forward to make that difference. 280 families have outstanding pledges of over $618,000; if you’re one of those families, please continue to work towards fulfilling your pledge. If you have fulfilled your initial commitment, are you perhaps at a place now to consider giving more?

We continue to make good progress, but we need to go Go Into the Deep to working towards finishing this debt. Then, when our mortgage is paid off, we will have a whole new reason to Rejoice and Give Thanks. -Tricia Hengemuhle, Business Administrator

This weekend, we will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the Unit-ed States are considered home mission territory because they are unable to fund the essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions.
