now take place in October 2020,
drupa in April 2021. Since we cur-
rently do not have these international
platforms for presenting the latest
products, we are now giving the go-
ahead for our new developments.
Our company BICMA has worked flat
out to develop a new pants machine:
the Volcano Kid. The system produces
closed diapers for babies and has
some brand new features on board,
see page 7. Please save the new date
for index in Geneva when we look
forward to your visit to our stand from
October 20-23, 2020.
Personalization is keyWe will be celebrating the second
premiere with the W+D BB820 when
we will be presenting our most pro-
ductive inserting system. It is based
on the W+D BB700 and adopts its
flexibility, intelligence and robust pro-
cessing tolerance. At the same time,
New Technologies at W+D
it focuses with 20,000 mailings per
hour on speed and high productivity
with single and multiple personalized
mailings. More information on the
next page.
Since we consider personalization to
be one of the most important features
for envelopes, we have also further
developed the W+D 410 in this direc-
tion. The Easy Enveloper is therefore
the first envelope production system
to specialize in 1:1 personalization on
preprinted rectangular sheets using
offset or digital printing – for more
information visit our website.
The large number of other instal-
lations that we have completed in
recent months worldwide, and are
presenting here as an example, bear
testimony to the customer benefits
and trust placed in W+D. As always,
we look forward to your feedback and
interest.
The year 2020 will go down in his-tory as one of the most memorable and this in many respects: humankind, socially, politically and economically. For the first time, life as we know it has come to a complete halt world-wide due to a virus.
Important industrial fairs such as in-
dex and drupa have been postponed
to protect all those involved. index will

In addition, the sophisticated mod-
ular concept ensures short set-up
times for changing orders.
The W+D BB820 can also be com-
bined with one or several W+D SL2
autoloaders to keep the loading fre-
quency for different sized inserts
within defined limits and operate this
robust inserter by a single operator.
Fully automatic camera-supported
operation makes the W+D BB820
future-proof. Features such as the
patented Auto Mismatch Recovery
function, which reliably diverts all
affected inserts and envelopes in the
event of sequence errors, allows the
inserting process to continue unin-
terrupted with no reduction in speed.
All processes at a glanceThe W+D BB820 equipped with the
new W+D BSC 4.0 operator panel
with 22-inch touch screen for graph-
ics and numbers serves for trans-
parency in the inserting process:
Whether work progress or remaining
process time, number of correctly or
incorrectly filled envelopes or inser-
ting speed reached, the operator has
a clear overview at all times.
The W+D BB820 is an easy to oper-
ate future-proof solution with lar-
ge processing tolerance and high
net output. It can be extended and
adapted at any time to suit specific
market conditions and go in line with
business growth.

the W+D sales team.
Modular. Flexible. Future-proof. These are the most important attri-butes of the W+D BB820, our new high-performance inserting system for small sizes. Fully automatic se-quence error correction ensures maximum integrity even at speeds of up to 20,000 envelopes per hour.
20K also in size C5/6x9“The W+D BB820 is a new, highly
productive inserting system that is
optimally designed to conform to
the global trend towards small-sized
mailings, since direct mailings rarely
exceed DIN C5/6x9“. This trend is
reflected in the W+D BB820, which
is capable of inserting up to 20,000
mailings per hour and covers the
entire range of small sizes from
98 x 184 mm to 162 x 292 mm.
Modular and future-proofThe W+D BB820 specializes in direct
mail and transactional mail which,
in the meantime, have become the
most important market segments.
Consistent modularity based on
servo drive technology and stan-
dardized data interfaces additionally
ensure full flexibility and backwards
compatibility to already existing W+D
feeders.

Discontinuation of the W+D BB300
Current changes to mailings with higher data integrity, faster speeds and greater flexibility have massively reduced
the demand for our tried and tested W+D BB300 in recent years. This has prompted us to take the decision to
discontinue this inserting system.
Instead, we will be focusing in future more on our inserters with proven servo technology for a faster, more reliable
and flexible inserting process. If you have any questions, please contact your W+D contact partner.
W+D together with its subsidiaries has been very active on LinkedIn over the last few months . You are welcome to join and follow us .

we are pleased to further our partner-
ship with W+D, with the purchase of
four BB700 S2s.” Greg Gaito, Director
of Operations, cites “the BB700 S2
offers unparalleled
technology such as
auto-mismatch reco-
very, a versatile auto-
loader for both rotary
and friction feeders
and a high-perfor-
mance vertical sta-
cker leading to much
greater throughput
whether from one in-
sert to six inserts on
the most demanding of paper stocks
and envelope sizes – including flats.”
Michael Gingerich, Continuous Im-
provement Manager, adds “the W+D’s
BB700 S2 integration with the latest
MCS raptor software, camera and
printers means all the machines on
our floor can now speak a common
language.”Higher net productivity“As direct mail packages become more
complex in pursuit of higher response
rates, direct mailers are challenged to
achieve faster time-to-mailbox drop
dates and higher net-on-the-belt
productivity,” states Andrew Schipke,
Vice President Sales and Marketing
for W+D North America. “We see for-
ward thinking converters and mailers
like Data Mail embracing the oppor-
tunity to address these trends head-
on in both their envelope converting
and inserting operations achieving a
significant speed advantage and the
ability to leap-frog their competition.”
Data Mail, Inc., Newington, CT, a family owned and operated busi-ness and one of the US’s largest full-service direct mail production companies mailing over 1.5 billion pieces annually, has purchased and installed their second W+D 627RC web envelope machine with inline CI flexo print technology for four color work as well as W+D’s newest blank fed converter, the W+D 410 Easy Enveloper with embosser. Both machines offer state of the art enve-lope printing and finishing for blank and web fed envelope production. Data Mail has recently also installed four W+D BB700 S2 intelligent read & print direct mail inserters.
Data integrity and PersonalizationScott Braunstein, Data Mail’s Senior
Vice President, observes “today’s cus-
tomers demand highest integrity,
personalized mailings with the fastest
possible response times which is why

at Direct Mail Days and the printing
and production results that ultimately
landed on the output table, we were
immediately convinced. Especially of
this outstanding and constant quality
of flexo printing, which allows results
to be achieved that were previously
only possible using offset.”
Thus Mayer-Kuvert-network has pur-
chased two W+D 628 envelope ma-
chines with an option to purchase a
third machine. Schwarz explains that
the inline production now offers the
opportunity to realize sophisticated
and at the same time very attractive
mailings in a single step.
Mayer-Kuvert-network, European market leader and producer of cus-tomized advertising envelopes, buys W+D production systems for sophisti-cated printed direct mail envelopes.
Future strategy diversificationMayer-Kuvert was confronted with chal-
lenges due to the advent of electronic
media for some time. To counteract
this, its restructuring and realignment
has been launched. Thomas Schwarz,
CEO of the company, comments:
“There will be a strong crowding-out
and those who do not diversify will
certainly have a problem in the coming
years. This includes expanding activi-
ties beyond one’s core business.”
For their new issue of web-to-print via
marketing portals, the W+D Halm i-Jet
2 four-color inkjet digital printing ma-
chine could immediately win him over.
“The machine was presented by W+D
at Direct Mail Days 2018, and we or-
dered ten machines for our locations
at once.”
High print quality that convincesIn the following year, Schwarz then
became aware of the new W+D 628
envelope machine. He was impressed
as it was equipped with state-of-the-
art control technology and comple-
mented by the extended W+D 201
inline printing system with LED UV
drying. “When we saw the W+D 628
Mayer-Kuvert invests in its future with two new W+D 628
Cost advantages and time savings According to Schwarz, the modules
provided inline in the machine “simply
meet the ravages of time.” Here he
mentions “the possibility of partial var-
nishing, in particular, and that all pro-
cessing steps, i.e. printing, die-cutting,
folding and gluing, are carried out
inline, which naturally offers us signif-
icant cost advantages and, above all,
ultimate time savings.”
Simple operation, low training effortWith just a few clicks on the respective
functions of the W+D 628, submenus
open for detailed input or data pro-
cessing. There are also help menus for
format changes, adjustments, paper
jams, etc. This makes it much easier for
rather inexperienced personnel and
reduces training requirements.
Partnering with W+DSchwarz is very satisfied with his work-
ing relationship with W+D in general.
“From our perspective, there is sim-
ply no other company that can offer
anything comparable in the envelope
sector.”

A dozen W+D FLOWTOS sold
The W+D FLOWTOS is known to be one of the most innovative two-lane handkerchief machines. Its flow wrap technology has already con-vinced a dozen customers in Europe, Africa and South America.
Compared to other product lines, the
special Flow-Wrap-Technology of the
system is far more efficient and saves
a lot of material. Thus much less tis-
sue and film material are used in pro-
duction.
Just recently, Futura Line Industry,
a renowned Italian company, also
decided to buy the W+D FLOWTOS.
Liberato Nocerino, Managing Director
of Futura Line Industry says: “We are
delighted with the consistent qual-
ity and high productivity with which
the machine produces paper tissues
for us.”

W+D modular inserting systems
are so versatile that feeders can be
used at different positions within
the machine or in other W+D
inserting systems for example.
Since feeder weights vary between
20 kg and 60 kg, depending on
the type, the W+D Feeder-Carrier
lightens the load.
Modernization program successfully launched
Our recently launched “Moderniza-tion Program” for Mail and Hygiene Solutions has been very well recei-ved by our customers.
We provide solutions in the area
of control and drive technology to
suit specific requirements. Over the
course of time, machine control pa-
nels perform less efficiently. We have
now developed for Exor control pa-
nels with Profibus connection a 100%
replacement for your W+D systems.
The modular design of the panel in-
cluding display and keyboard enables
our customers to replace individual
components themselves also in the
future.
Even the individ-
ual keyboards for
operating our W+D
envelope and hy-
giene machines
may gradually need
replacing. We are now offering a
1:1 replacement with 16 or 24 keys,
which customers can also fit them-
selves. The new robust and high-
quality keyboards not only make your
day-to-day work easier, they are also
built to last.

standard ultrasonic systems.
Focus on sustainable productionThe main focus in the development
of the Volcano Kid is on sustain-
ability: Not only is the vacuum supply
controlled according to demand and
therefore very energy-efficient, the
vacuum consumption is also addition-
ally reduced by an optimized surface
coating of the transport segments.

W+D and BICMA Hygiene Technolo- gie GmbH are in a partnership in which new machine developments and capacity expansion are promo-ted by mutual use of know-how, personnel and large production areas. Based on this alliance, BICMA has now developed the Volcano Kid, a production machine for baby pants.
High machine output, broad product spectrum and fast size changesVolcano Kid produces with up to 700
products per minute baby pants in a
product length of up to 550 mm. The
use of cam-controlled servo drives,
so-called re-pitch modules and the
well-proven exclusive BICMA S2S
modules ensure maximum product
flexibility. Using re-pitch modules
reduces the number of size tools to
a minimum and makes the few size
tools easy to change.
Our S2S modules are used whenever
size changes are necessary, e.g. from a
very small to a large size. These com-
plete modules include all essential
functions which need to be replaced
for size changes. They slide on air-
pillows and can be changed within a
matter of minutes – which also faci-
litates machine maintenance. A fur-
ther highlight is the ability to change
