Hope! We all need hope. I need hope. You need hope. That is the theme and thought I have been pondering this Lent as we move towards our Resurrection Sunday.

We travel the road with Christ in the Lenten season reflecting on His life. We take the hard path to Calvary and see Jesus dying on the cross. We realize that when Jesus was put in the tomb all hope was lost. At least for the dark days that followed his crucifixion. When Christ was resurrected early on Sunday it brought hope to all people. God’s love and power could not be kept in a tomb. Jesus was alive. Death cannot keep us, sin cannot hold us, darkness cannot cover us, others cannot bury us. We have hope when we have Christ. What a great message to celebrate and take to heart. I want us to share and celebrate hope in this season of Lent and really give God thanks for the risen Christ when we gather on April 24! What a day that will be.

I pray that you receive anew the great gift God has given us through Christ in the gift of hope. Hold on to hope this Lent. See you in worship where we rekindle the truth of our hope.

In Christ’s Love, Ted

Worship Highlights!

As we continue to worship in the season of Lent we focus our heart on the

special moments of worship each Sunday. We have a special presentation by Micah

Cohen, from Jews for Jesus, on Sunday, March 27. It is entitled “Christ in the

Passover.” A love offering will be taken.

We will celebrate Communion April 3 as we reflect on Psalm 23. Our Children’s

Musical will be shared on Sunday, April 10. You will want to be here to celebrate and

support our children.

Holy Week, a very special time in the life of the church, begins on

Sunday, April 17 as we celebrate Palm Sunday. There will be a Palm

Branch processional at the beginning of our worship that day. On

Thursday, April 21 we will gather for a light meal in the Fellowship

Hall at 6:00p.m. (Thanks to the Worship Committee for providing this

meal.) Rev Wilbur Yates, our Pastor Emeritus, will preach and lead

the Communion service that will follow the meal.

On Good Friday, April 22 we will gather with others in our community and

attend the Good Friday service at First Presbyterian Church at 6:00p.m. Our Chancel

Choir will sing and John McLaughlin will lead the mass choir that gathers. This has

been a tremendous service of worship and unity in the past.

We celebrate the Resurrection on Sunday, April 24 with a breakfast served by

the Men at 7:30a.m. (Thanks men.) Our regular worship services will be holy,

joyfilled and uplifting giving thank for the risen Lord. Invite a friend with you to

worship!

Calling All Men - You are invited! There will be a Young Men and Men’s Dinner on Thurs-day, May 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. John Clayton, an award winning sci-ence teacher and author, will be the featured speaker at this Men’s Banquet. John has earned prominence for his knowledge and skill in dealing with matters of science and the Bible. While many people in society believe that sci-

ence is incompatible with faith in God, these presentations will help you understand how honest scientists find ample evidence for a living and creative God. In addition, Clayton will discuss the evidence he found in science and scripture that helped convert him from an atheist to a Christian. Tickets for the event will be $10 each or a table of 8 for $80. You can get your ticket by contacting the Church office, Ted Jansen or Matt Fetter at 260-908-1442.

Good Grief !!

An Adult Wednesday evening Class For adults who want to know how to deal with loss.

Dates: Wednesday April 13 through Wednesday May 25 (Skipping April 20 due to Holy Week)

6:15 PM in the Chapel Linda Schrimshaw, Leader

Death is a subject a lot of folks don’t want to talk about – never-theless we all have a lot of questions. “How does media affect our per-ception of death ?” – “Is there a place for humor in death ?” – “Are your affairs in order ?” – “Is it appropriate to talk about death with chil-dren ?” – “How is death portrayed in and to our society ?” We are fortunate to have our own Linda Schrimshaw to lead us in this study. Plan to be with us for an interesting and most helpful series of six lessons.

PLEASE SIGN THE ENROLLMENT SHEET ON THE TABLE IN THE GATHERING AREA. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.

The GLOW meals have been quite a success this year with an average of about 60 people

being in attendance each week. I wish to thank all that have volunteered, donating salads, desserts, soups and most of all time to keep this ministry going. We are still in need of

volunteers for three remaining weeks in May and hope a few of you will feel called to help out. Please sign the Sign-up Sheet in Fellow-ship Hall (bulletin board) or contact me. In Christ, Kathy Hardy 925-6140(home)

We have had many visitors including the EMS, a cam-el, and a maple syrup producer. We even got to enjoy pancakes on the day of the maple syrup demonstration!

When you were a kid, do you remember how fun it was to cook? Did you like to dance? Or paint? The School of Early Learning wants to promote learning during the summer months. To do this, Summer Fun Camps have been held for the past 2 summers. This year’s camp themes are: Creative Cookers, Mozart and Move-ment, and Preschool Picassos. Each camp is held on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Depending on the chosen camp, students will have experiences with cooking, composers and liturgical dance, and many types of art. Many of the activities our students participate in are just plain fun and messy! They are the things we (as parents) know we should do, but don’t have the time or resources.

Our students need your help. Can you help us further our mis-sion? Please consider making a donation to help offset the cost of the camp. Last year, 33 scholarships were given to stu-dents to keep the learning going during the summer months. Let’s continue to show our community how important the edu-cation of youth is to our church. On each child is a dollar amount. Just select a cut-out. Then, turn it in to Pat Kobiela or Kelly Oswalt. Today’s economic times are tough for families, schools, churches, and businesses. Your support and help are needed and greatly appreciated by our families!

United Methodist Women

If anyone interested in helping with the Garden Party on June 18 2011, please contact Susan Steinman at 925-6954 or [email protected]. She is currently recruiting volunteers interested in assisting with table favors, food preparation and other projects in preparation of this event. Anyone who

would like to be involved and are willing to volunteer, even if for only one to two hours between now and June 18th are encouraged to call. Any UMW member interested in attending the UMW Northeast Indiana District Spring Meeting held at the Columbia City UM church on Saturday, April 16th from 9:00 a.m. to noon should contact Susan Steinman by April 6th. Rev. Chris Danielson will be leading an experi-ence of worship and spiritual preparation for Holy Week.

UMW collection for Redbird mission As an outreach project, the United Methodist Women will be collecting good used

clothes, school supplies, medical supplies such as aspirin, Tylenol, Tums and Band-Aids, paper products and Bibles to send to Red Bird Mission in August. You can help by donating your children’s outgrown clothing. Adult clothing is needed as well. Also, for those garage sale enthusiasts, maybe you can pick up one or two bargain items to donate. More details will be coming this spring and summer but keep this need in

mind as you clean out your closets this spring. Red Bird Mission and Clinic have been providing ministries in the Appalachian Mountain region since 1921. Today the need is critical in this neglected, rural, distressed area. Support for Red Bird Mission comes from churches and individuals. In recent years, support for Red Bird Mission

has declined and they are having difficulty with continuing the ministries they provide.

This collection drive will help them to continue with their vital ministry in this greatly

impoverished area of the United States. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Again, watch for details on collection dates and sites and items needed in the next

church newsletter and on the UMW bulletin board in Fellowship Hall. For questions, please see one of the UMW executive committee members
