Many members of the com-munity face problems affecting the major joints of the body like the shoulders, hips, and knees, which can cause per-sistent pain, interfere with daily living and restful sleep, and develop into more serious problems. Pocono Medical Center (PMC) provides resources to ensure there is early, correct diagnosis and surgical treatment to help solve the painful problems. “Medical advances have helped surgery to be the answer for people of all ages who are needlessly suffering from a range of problems, which surgery can repair quickly and easily,” says Frederick J. Barnes, MD, FACS, FAAOS, Chief of the Department of Orthopedics at Pocono Medical Center. Surgery is primarily recommended to ease pain and in-crease range of motion. Problems affecting the shoulders, hips, and knees can be caused by injury, aging, or disease. Hundreds of thousands of surgeries are performed annu-ally to correct painful shoulders, hips, and knees. For more information on All Right Now: Solving Shoulder, Hip, and Knee Pain and PMC’s surgical services, please visit PoconoHealthSystem.org. The Sherman Theater and Pocono Raceway are excited to announce a new direction for live concert events in the Poconos as part of a joint venture to pro-duce a summer concert series at Pocono Raceway. As the Sherman Theater has grown in size and in popu-larity over the years, the concert demand has grown, as well. Working together, the Sherman and Pocono Raceway have created an opportunity for the Pocono Region to host some great shows and driving economic demand in the region. The first concert in the Sherman Summer Stage at Pocono Raceway Series is scheduled for July 31, and will feature internationally-renowned bands 311 and

Slightly Stoopid. Since their formation in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1990, 311 has sold over 8.5 million al-bums in the U.S. alone, had five albums reach the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top-200 Sales Chart, and had eight singles reach the Top 10 on Billboards’ Modern Rock Chart. Slightly Stoopid is a band based out of Ocean Beach, California. They have released seven albums (two live) with their fifth studio album entitled, "Chronchitis," released in August 2007. The band was originally signed by the late Bradley Nowell, known from the band Sublime, to his label Skunk Records. Staying true to the D.I.Y ethic of punk rock, the band released its first two albums independently on Skunk. Pocono Raceway, which hosts two premier NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events each year, is only 20 minutes away from the Sherman Theater, has acres of parking and the world’s largest bathroom with over 1000 stalls, making it an ideal location for bigger concerts in the Pocono region. The Sherman Theater is a 501c3 non-profit organiza-tion producing concerts, festivals, and various other events. A 1377-seat venue, the Sherman Theater’s mission is to serve the community by providing qual-ity, culturally-diverse entertainment from nationally-known professional acts that brings patrons to down-town Stroudsburg and the Pocono region, creating a unique catalyst for the local economic development. The Sherman Theater has worked with some of the biggest acts in the world including Ke$ha, 311, Paparoach, Furthur, Hinder, Sully Erna, Evanescence, Mac Miller, Blue Oyster Cult, Jim Jones, Jadakiss, and more. Pocono Alliance is an organization dedicated to the im-provement of quality of life in Monroe County by identify-ing unmet human service needs and working towards solu-tions. Pocono Alliance is comprised of four Coalitions: Housing, Transport, Health, and Children’s Education. It has been determined that there are 5,400 children with disabilities in Monroe County. With the nearest accessible, all-inclusive playground being over 40 miles away, a defi-nite need was identified. Play and social interaction is a vital component of learning; the lack of this resource within the area has brought about Crossing Abilities: Mon-roe County’s All Inclusive Playground. This is a project of the Pocono Alliance Health Coalition and will be located at the Hamilton Jackson Pocono (HJP) regional park. This playground is intended to stimulate the children’s senses and help them to develop motor, social, and sensory skills through play. Pocono Alliance has partnered with Camelback Mountain Resort for a Crossing Abilities Playground Design Contest to allow children to give their input into the design of the playground. The contest is open to children from 3 to 16 years old residing in Monroe County. Winners will receive passes for Camelbeach Water Park. Please support Cross-ing Abilities by promoting the contest and posting a link to the attached contest details and registration form on your organization’s website, share through publication, pro-gramming, and within your networks.
