ThreepossibleconceptsfortheinterchangeatMcKenzieAvenueontheTrans-CanadaHighwaywereunveiledbyTransportationandInfrastructureMinisterToddStonetoday.“OnJuly22,2015,weannouncedacommitmenttobuildanewinterchangealongHighway1atMcKenzieAvenueandnow,lessthanfourmonthslater,wehavethreedesignconceptsreadyforpublicinput,”saidStone.“I’mpleasedwiththeprogressandencourageanyonewhousesthiscorridortolearnmoreaboutthisimportantpieceofinfrastructure.Wewanttohearfromthosewhorelyonthisintersectionandlookforwardtohearingwhattheyhavetosayaswelaunchthepublicconsultationsessiontomorrowat3p.m.”



Allthreeconceptshavebeendeterminedtobetechnicallyfeasibleandtomeettheprojectgoalstoreducecongestion,improvesafetyandmaximizereliability.Theoptionsinclude:

● AdiamondinterchangewiththeTrans-CanadaHighwayloweredtogounderneathMcKenzieAvenueandAdmiralsRoad.

● ApartialcloverleafinterchangewiththehighwaygoingunderMcKenzie/Admirals.● AdiamondconfigurationwiththehighwaygoingoverMcKenzieAvenueandAdmirals

TheMcKenzieInterchangeisacriticalinfrastructureinvestmentforVancouverIslandandispartofmorethan$200millionthathasbeeninvestedtogetherwithfederalandlocalpartnerstowardsprojectsthatarerecentlyannounced,underwayorrecentlycompleted.Oncefinished,thenewinterchangewillgoalongwaytoimprovingsafetyandtrafficflowintoandthroughtheCapitalRegionalDistrict.

Public Notice of Open House

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure invites the public to attend an Open House regarding a proposed new interchange at the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Admirals Road and McKenzie Avenue.

This will be an opportunity for the public to review and provide input on the project. Ministry staff will be available to provide information and answer questions.

The drop-in open house is scheduled for the following date:

Tuesday, November 17, 20153:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

St. Joseph the Worker Parish Hall753 Burnside Road West, Victoria BC

For those unable to attend the open house, the information presented will be posted on the ministry’s web site on November 17th.
