practitioner compliment each other very well

• Broaden your understanding of different techniques and use them to your advantage

• MSP will give you an appreciation for the wider context of project delivery

Section 3: What are Deloitte looking for in PMs?

© 2015 Deloitte MCS Limited. Private and confidential.11

Hard skills Softer skills

What are we looking for?

We do not expect them to necessarily have project management experience

We have tools, techniques and training to help people develop those skills

Logic

Structured ways of thinking

Able to look at the wider picture

Attention to detail and ability to

simplify detail

Forward thinking

Proactive

Stakeholder engagement

Flexibility

Ability to translate for different

audiences

Self-starter

Increasingly expecting them to be on top of the latest innovations in their sector e.g. digital

Changing world

Section 4: What’s it like in consultancy?

© 2015 Deloitte MCS Limited. Private and confidential.12

Breadth not depth

Consultancy Industry

Breadth not depth in consultancy whereas depth not breadth in industry

In consulting the early years are about developing a broad range of skills and experience

across numerous clients

More likely to get responsibility earlier in industry but within a much narrower remit

Consulting can be very changeable however opportunity to be on some of the most exciting

projects out there

Industry workload and pattern of work will be more consistent

Consulting access to people that have had similar experiences
