January 2007 The APM Board resolved to embark on a programme for the

association to achieve Chartered Status to become chartered as an organisation

and to operate a register of Chartered practitioners

November 2007 At the APM Annual General Meeting members voted

unanimously to approve the motion to petition for a charter and to create a

register of practitioners

April 2008 Our preliminary application was made to the Privy Council

October 2008 A formal application was submitted to the Privy Council and duly

gazetted in line with the recognised application process No objections to the

application were received during the gazetting process

May 2009 Working group was formed to develop the Chartered Project

Professional Standard

August 2009 Influencing campaign continues with the support of key supporters

from the corporate community and within government

February 2013 APM was informed that in his role as the Lead Privy Council

Adviser in this matter the Minister for the Cabinet Office had decided to

recommend that a Royal Charter should be granted to APM

July 2013 APM was informed that a committee of the Privy Council had

unanimously reached its recommendation that a Royal Charter should be granted

to APM and that this recommendation would be placed on the list of business for

the meeting of the Privy Council to be held in October 2013 This decision was

subsequently challenged by Project Management Institute (PMI) who sought

permission for Judicial Review naming the Minister for the Cabinet Office the

Privy Council Office and the Attorney General as Defendants and APM as an

interested party

March 2014 A substantive hearing of the Judicial Review claim was scheduled for

8th and 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London

July 2014 The substantive hearing of the Judicial Review claim was duly held on 8th

and 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London with the Judge reserving judgement

RPP amp Chartered status the story hellip

July 2014 Having reserved judgment at the substantive hearing of the Judicial

Review claim which ended on 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London the Judge

Mr Justice Mitting handed down his judgment on 17th July 2014 The Judge

dismissed the claim on all grounds

August 2014 PMI sought permission from the Judge to appeal this decision which

he refused PMI then had a limited period in which to seek leave to appeal directly

from the Court of Appeal

December 2014 On 9th December 2014 APM was informed that the Court of

Appeal has decided to grant permission to PMI to appeal Mr Justice Mittingrsquos

decision The Court stated that given that this is the first time that the grant or

refusal of a Royal Charter has been challenged in the courts the case should be

considered by the Court of Appeal It is expected that the hearing will take place

before May 2015

February 2015 APM continue to maintain an appropriate lsquosilencersquo but have now

released the above timetable on their website

November 2007 At the APM Annual General Meeting members voted

unanimously to approve the motion to petition for a charter and to create a

register of practitioners

April 2008 Our preliminary application was made to the Privy Council

October 2008 A formal application was submitted to the Privy Council and duly

gazetted in line with the recognised application process No objections to the

application were received during the gazetting process

May 2009 Working group was formed to develop the Chartered Project

Professional Standard

August 2009 Influencing campaign continues with the support of key supporters

from the corporate community and within government

July 2013 APM was informed that a committee of the Privy Council had

unanimously reached its recommendation that a Royal Charter should be granted

to APM and that this recommendation would be placed on the list of business for

the meeting of the Privy Council to be held in October 2013 This decision was

subsequently challenged by Project Management Institute (PMI) who sought

permission for Judicial Review naming the Minister for the Cabinet Office the

Privy Council Office and the Attorney General as Defendants and APM as an

interested party

March 2014 A substantive hearing of the Judicial Review claim was scheduled for

8th and 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London

July 2014 The substantive hearing of the Judicial Review claim was duly held on 8th

and 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London with the Judge reserving judgement

July 2014 Having reserved judgment at the substantive hearing of the Judicial

Review claim which ended on 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London the Judge

Mr Justice Mitting handed down his judgment on 17th July 2014 The Judge

dismissed the claim on all grounds

August 2014 PMI sought permission from the Judge to appeal this decision which

he refused PMI then had a limited period in which to seek leave to appeal directly

from the Court of Appeal

December 2014 On 9th December 2014 APM was informed that the Court of

Appeal has decided to grant permission to PMI to appeal Mr Justice Mittingrsquos

decision The Court stated that given that this is the first time that the grant or

refusal of a Royal Charter has been challenged in the courts the case should be

considered by the Court of Appeal It is expected that the hearing will take place

before May 2015

February 2015 APM continue to maintain an appropriate lsquosilencersquo but have now

released the above timetable on their website

November 2007 At the APM Annual General Meeting members voted

unanimously to approve the motion to petition for a charter and to create a

register of practitioners

April 2008 Our preliminary application was made to the Privy Council

October 2008 A formal application was submitted to the Privy Council and duly

gazetted in line with the recognised application process No objections to the

application were received during the gazetting process

May 2009 Working group was formed to develop the Chartered Project

Professional Standard

August 2009 Influencing campaign continues with the support of key supporters

July 2013 APM was informed that a committee of the Privy Council had

unanimously reached its recommendation that a Royal Charter should be granted

to APM and that this recommendation would be placed on the list of business for

the meeting of the Privy Council to be held in October 2013 This decision was

subsequently challenged by Project Management Institute (PMI) who sought

permission for Judicial Review naming the Minister for the Cabinet Office the

Privy Council Office and the Attorney General as Defendants and APM as an

interested party

March 2014 A substantive hearing of the Judicial Review claim was scheduled for

8th and 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London

July 2014 The substantive hearing of the Judicial Review claim was duly held on 8th

and 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London with the Judge reserving judgement

July 2014 Having reserved judgment at the substantive hearing of the Judicial

Review claim which ended on 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London the Judge

Mr Justice Mitting handed down his judgment on 17th July 2014 The Judge

dismissed the claim on all grounds

August 2014 PMI sought permission from the Judge to appeal this decision which

he refused PMI then had a limited period in which to seek leave to appeal directly

from the Court of Appeal

December 2014 On 9th December 2014 APM was informed that the Court of

Appeal has decided to grant permission to PMI to appeal Mr Justice Mittingrsquos

decision The Court stated that given that this is the first time that the grant or

refusal of a Royal Charter has been challenged in the courts the case should be

considered by the Court of Appeal It is expected that the hearing will take place

before May 2015

February 2015 APM continue to maintain an appropriate lsquosilencersquo but have now

released the above timetable on their website

Review claim which ended on 9th July 2014 at the High Court in London the Judge

Mr Justice Mitting handed down his judgment on 17th July 2014 The Judge

dismissed the claim on all grounds

August 2014 PMI sought permission from the Judge to appeal this decision which

he refused PMI then had a limited period in which to seek leave to appeal directly

from the Court of Appeal

December 2014 On 9th December 2014 APM was informed that the Court of

Appeal has decided to grant permission to PMI to appeal Mr Justice Mittingrsquos

decision The Court stated that given that this is the first time that the grant or

refusal of a Royal Charter has been challenged in the courts the case should be

considered by the Court of Appeal It is expected that the hearing will take place

before May 2015

February 2015 APM continue to maintain an appropriate lsquosilencersquo but have now

released the above timetable on their website

January 2007 The APM Board resolved to embark on a programme for the

association to achieve Chartered Status to become chartered as an organisation

and to operate a register of Chartered practitioners

November 2007 At the APM Annual General Meeting members voted

unanimously to approve the motion to petition for a charter and to create a

register of practitioners

April 2008 Our preliminary application was made to the Privy Council

October 2008 A formal application was submitted to the Privy Council and duly

gazetted in line with the recognised application process No objections to the

application were received during the gazetting process

May 2009 Working group was formed to develop the Chartered Project

Professional Standard

permission for Judicial Review naming the Minister for the Cabinet Office the

Privy Council Office and the Attorney General as Defendants and APM as an

interested party
