ExCURSIONS Excursions and in school activities are a practical and logical way for students to engage in new experiences. They learn new skills, knowledge and values in a practical, hands-on way which help develop their understanding of key ideas. Unfortunately, there are still children who are not returning notes and money for excursions. GPS only plan student experiences that are effective in assisting their learning and we do not charge school fees. It is expected that every child attends organised day excursions. Please make an appointment with me if you are experiencing financial hardship and want to request support.

GUILDFORD LEAGUES CLUB SUPPORT We have been fortunate to receive funding of $11,700 from Guildford Leagues Club as a result of our successful application for a ‘Clubs Grant’. Again, I extend my appreciation to Guildford Leagues Club for their continued generosity and support of our school.

TEACHER ACCREDITATION Congratulations to Miss Marie Mete who was recently awarded her Certificate of Accreditation from the Board of Studies Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES).

STUDENT SUPPORT We have employed an additional speech pathologist to work with stage 1 students and other high needs students identified by teachers. Information about speech pathology can be accessed on the following website http://www.educationalspeechpathology.com.au/

SCHOOL FINANCE CHANGES No money will be collected at the office during the next two weeks as our school transitions to a new software finance system known as SAP. A Skoolbag alert will be posted when the office will start collecting money again. I apologise to any parents or children whom this may impact on.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING Teaching staff stayed back at school on Wednesday to participate in the first of two workshops about digital filming, acting, editing and producing. Teachers engagement was extremely high with an enormous amount of learning taking place. We anticipate many classes to soon start their journey with film making. The benefits for language development, creativity and collaboration are enormous through film making. Teachers will stay back late on Wednesday 7th September for the second film making lesson.

KIND REGARDS CHRIS HABERECHT

Session 5 - Know Your Rights Our Peer Support session in Stronger Together this week looks closely at the rights of each individual in relation to bullying and harassment. It looks at a range of techniques to support those being bullied and encourages them and the bystanders to take action. Parents of participating students could talk with their child about what they would do if it happened to them

Session 6 - Make a choice Our Peer Support session in Stronger Together this week provides for a series of problem solving and decision making activities to analyse how and why we make the choices we do. It considers aspects of safety and a moral sense of purpose about why we should seek to support others and look more deeply into how our decisions can have a bigger impact than we first thought.

Miss Jones and Ms Cross would like to thank the ‘Promotion Interest Group’ for all their hard work preparing for Guildfords first Mini-Olympics. It was a fantastic day and your dedication to designing promotional posters, allocating student countries, organising classroom activities and much more was absolutely fantastic.

A HUGE THANK YOU!

On Thursday the 18th of August Guildford Public School hosted our first Plant a Tree Day event with thanks to Transport NSW and Downer Group, who supplied the plants and assisted with the planting. All the students were very enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyed the planting process. On the day Gardening club acted as our experts while two students from each class were selected to come and plant a tree on behalf of their class. In the coming week each plant will have a sign placed near it so that students can watch their class tree grow and thrive, as they too grow and thrive.

Lately there have been a lot of books being returned damaged. Looking at the type of damages, it seems that all these books have been in reach of little ones. Many books have been damaged by scribbling with a permanent marker or pencil. Some have been ripped or even chewed! Please be extra careful that your child puts their books out of reach of younger siblings. If you see your infant with a library book please make sure you take it off them quickly. My records have also shown that there are a lot of overdue books. I understand that there have been a lot of different events happening this term and it has caused the cancellation of library lessons for that week, however, you can also return books any day of the week. They will still be marked in the system as returned. Please have a look if your child has any books that need to be returned. I’ve sent overdue notices as a reminder. Please ask your child if they have it. Thank you Mr Norambuena (Teacher Librarian).
