Richie Rich was born into the upper class society. His parents don’t want him to insidiously acquire any vulgar habits like poor table manners or speaking in slang, so they refuse to let him attend public school. They believe such habits would be harmful to his social status. Rather than directly say this though, his parents use the euphemism “you’re different from the other children.”

Insidious (adj)

causing harm in a way that is gradual or not easily noticed

Synonym: dangerous, subtle

Antonym: harmless, open

Euphemism (n)

A nicer way of saying something harsh/mean

Synonym: “circumlocution”

Vulgar (adj)

lacking good taste;

Synonym: unrefined, tawdry, meretricious

Antonym: refined, sophisticated
