Starting point…After deep research into Romanian “library” using the World-Wide -Web tool, we discovered that at national level it does not exist an appropriate,well-informed document addressed specifically to drivers, in which to be presented in a friendly, easy to understand manner the non-costmeasures they may take to reduce energy consumptions while driving and therefore to reduce costs of travelling, protect the environment andwhy not, their own vehicles.… This is how it came out the idea to elaborate the brochure “Guide for Drivers – Advices for crises times and not only…”. In its conception, weused the opinion of specialists in cars construction field, environment protection authorities, road police, various materials and of course, theinternet. The design was conceived and edited, as well, by ALEEM staff, and its multiplication was done by a local advertising & printingcompany.





The brochure summaries 8 pages in A5 format, on anice colored background being easy to find outspecific information about:• climate change and motorized vehicles influenceon it, but also the national motto regarding drivingon the public roads: “Life has priority”;• measures to be taken by planning and optimizingthe road to destination;• information on how to start moving the car withlow fuel consumptions;• methods on how to be a clever driver during yourtrip;• smart tips on how to maintain a certain level ofcomfort inside the car without pushing to much carswarming/cooling installations;• measures that can be taken to keep your car in agood shape, without paying too much;• eco-friendly alternatives that could be choseninstead using the private car: common transport,cycling or… walking• an intuitive draw with the most “sensitive” partsof your car that may cause bigger fuel consumptions

The official launching of the brochure has been done during the events organizedduring the national contest “Road education – education for life” held betweenschools in Romania and organized in Vaslui this year. The contest involvesrepresentatives of teachers and pupils from each county of Romania, that earnedthe first positions in contests of road education organized in their own countiesand therefore acceding at national competition.

We may say that this event has a national coverage at primary and secondary schoollevel, in terms of representation. It received very positive reactions from audience,the police representatives, local and county authorities representatives, teacherscoming from all country and not at last local media. The event was presented to thepublic during the evening news on the local TV channels, so citizens of our countyhad the opportunity to see on TV our presentations about ALEEM, Intelligent EnergyProgramme and brochure. People appreciated our work and asked copies of thebrochure to share it with others. Having it posted on agency’s websitewww.energyvaslui.ro satisfied everyone who wanted a copy of the brochure, that inthe beginning was printed in a limited number of 1000 copies. As an immediateeffect, there was registered a peak of website hits, deriving from people wish todownload the new material.

But we felt that the greatest success it met… among teenagers, that looked very enthusiastic when discovered the brochure, being interested asnew drivers or very close to get their license, on how they can act to adapt the eco-driving style.We have chosen the biggest college in Vaslui to present the brochure and spread it among pupils and teachers.

In the hall of the college, ALEEM staff had a 50 minutes intervention, including following presentations:- ALEEM introduction- presentations about what is “energy efficiency” and “climate change”;- presentation of the brochure “Guide for drivers – Advices for crises times and not only…”- video materials extracted from European Commission website, through which pupils could learn in a simple, friendly manner how they canreduce their energy consumptions while they are at school, at home or while … driving!




its fantastic success to publicThe big “boom”…. continuesThe pupils were very pleased about our presentation and the brochures offered, so at our idea to spread some brochures with their help, in the citycentre of Vaslui, they showed immediately their availability and willing to help.Therefore, in 2 hours from presentation, time used by the pupils to get ready for the new task and equipped with “Save Energy” hats on and rollersbrought from home, some of them that offered as volunteers they started to spread the brochures among the drivers stopped at the red light fromthe city centre and pedestrians getting through the area, explaining the context of the event and, of course, the content of the brochure.After 1,5 hours of hard work, we succeeded to spread a number of 1000 brochures. Following our estimations, almost 2000 persons were directlyinformed about “eco-driving” concept due to this campaign developed by ALEEM, and almost 10000 were informed about the action due to greatpublicity of the event.





The big “boom”…. continuesTo assure the biggest impact of the action, representatives of audiovisual and written media showed themselves, filming the entire action, takinginterviews with pupils, drivers, pedestrians and us.In order that all the action to develop in good conditions, a car from road municipal police watched the entire scene, offering more an “official”view of this activity more than a “protective” one. At the end, they also received some copies of the guide, together with our sincere thanks.The success of our action was so big that we asked the printing company a new set of 1000 brochures.

Observing the impact had by the brochures, and at “Stefan Procopiu”management team idea, we were invited as co-organizers, to promote thebrochure during the event “Balul bobocilor” (Fresheners Prom), a specificshow organized by each high school to elect the most hansom andintelligent pair (boy and girl) among pupils being in the first year of studiesin respective high school. We were delighted, thinking about the publicity ofthe event, and about the fact that will participate teenagers from the entirecity, and not only from “Stefan Procopiu” high school.Therefore, armed with the Guide but also with IEE Magazines and IEENews Reviews, we were receiving at the entrance all the spectators ,offering to each of them one copy of these materials.Looking at their reaction and positive feedback from them, we stronglybelieve that we could successfully promote “Guide for drivers – Advices forcrises times and not only…”, ALEEM and also Intelligent Energy EuropeProgramme.More, ALEEM offered to all the participants and members of the jury somesmall presents, consisting in a personalized bag containing : one “SaveEnergy” hat, one “Guide for drivers – Advices for crises times and notonly…”, one “Guide for Homeowners – Energy Performance Certificate”,one energy efficient lightning bulb, one room thermometer and onepersonalized pencil.





As the capacity of the city festivities hall is about 500 persons and allthe seats were filled, together with its broadcasting on localtelevisions, we believe that more than 5000 people were informedabout our action thanks to this event. We must declare that the showwas transmitted at least 2 times by each of the 3 local TV stations inVaslui, assuring this way huge visibility of our action.

As we have been co-organizers, we also involved into sponsorship attraction from the private sector, succeeding in gathering the amount neededto organize the event and for the prizes of the winning teams. The director of the Agency was one of jury members, noting “eco-culture”knowledge of competitors. One of the contest tests was carried out ALEEM idea, and consisted in a dressing -fashion presentation made fromrecycled materials. The pictures are concluding…

We had the chance to present our work together with the brochure topupils and teachers coming all over Europe: Finland, Turkey,Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Lithuania and Poland. Even in Romanianlanguage, the teachers asked us more brochures so they can showthem back home to their students. An article in local press appearedon this issue, as may be seen in the attached picture, we being in thearticle’s image.

Seeing the local and national success of our brochure, we have thought to make it “internationally” known. So we took advantages of “Energy fortomorrow”, a project funded by European Commission - Culture and Training DG, through Lifelong Learning – Comenius for schoolsProgramme, in which our “partners” from “Stefan Procopiu” are project leaders. The project has as main goal education of pupils regardingsaving energy at home and school and promotion of renewables. Due to the fact that in Vaslui was the kick-of-meeting of the project, ALEEMparticipated at this event, being invited as lectors at the opening seminar.
