I t is June. The school year is winding down and so is the program year at Our Savior’s. As we wrap up the

program year, I would like to highlight some of the great work the music ministry does at Our Savior’s.

The Celebration Singers, our adult choir, has been providing beautiful choral music at Our Savior’s for

over 30 years. Each year we add new members. This group praises God with song at our 10:30 worship

as well as special services. They are on hiatus for the summer but will resume after Rally Day in the

fall. Maybe you would like to join us….

On Sunday evenings, we gather for our “Pause” worship service with music led by Rich Kirkpatrick.

“Pause” will continue through the summer. Join us at 6:00pm for worship and word throughout the

summer months.

Our very talented worship band provides music for both services throughout the program year. These

faithful musicians bring their gifts each Sunday for worship services, special services and special

congregational events. I really appreciate their dedication as they continue to support our worship

services throughout the summer.

We are so fortunate to have these wonderful musicians at our church. They share their gifts for the love of

God. BUT….just as important are God’s people in the pews – you and me – who make a joyful noise every

time we praise God with our voices.

Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings

and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! Psalm 150:1-6

Youth and Children’s Page

by Bob Cooper - Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries

A Full Circle June

Well here we are in June, WOW! The time goes by

SO quickly. This June is a very special one for me as

a youth leader, as the high school class of 2017 take

that big walk up on the stage in front of proud and

tearful families, I too will feel a little bit nostalgic.

You see this class is the first class that I have had the

privilege of joining in their faith walk from the sixth

grade through high school. As I look back on these

years I remember the first time I led them in the

Middle School Youth Group and how these kids have

grown from rowdy sixth graders into thoughtful

young men and women ready for the next step

knowing that they are loved by almighty God. It has

been my joy to share this journey with them and their

families. Together we have laughed, cried, sang,

prayed, and traveled the country serving the needy,

exploring our faith, and gaining insight into the heart

and mind of God, what a ride!

Along with the High School graduates we have a

wonderful class of Confirmands that will receive the

Rite of Confirmation this month, again a special class

for me as I have been very close to these kids since

they were in kindergarten. They are a very thoughtful

group and I am sure that they are ready to claim their

faith and be active members of our congregation as

well as the larger church.

We will also welcome our eighth grade students into

the High School Youth Group and our fifth grade

students will be welcomed into the Middle School

Youth Group on June 14th during our annual

“Welcome New Sixlets” BBQ!

But let’s not forget the little ones, from Monday, June

26 through Friday, June 30 we will again be hosting

the good people from LRCC (El Camino Pines and

Luther Glen) to our campus for “Vacation Day

Camp”! This is similar to VBS but with a couple of

notable differences, Day Camp is run by the young

adult camp counselors from El Camino Pines (our

Lutheran camp in the Los Padres National Forest) the

counselors bring the same programming and energy

from the camp to our campus for a week of camp fun

without ever leaving home, a great way for those that

might not be ready to be away from Mom and Dad

for a week in the mountains. Day Camp is open to

any child entering grades K-6 in the fall, see the

registration form in this newsletter for more details.

So here’s to a great summer filled with lots of

friendship and treasured memories.

Service with a smile,

Bob Cooper, Youth and Children’s Ministry

Welcome INN Meal Service Mondays, June 12th & July 10th

Sent to Serve with Love

The Welcome INN dinner service is going great! We

served over 60 meals in May. Maybe the summer

weather brought out the crowd. We needed loaves

and fishes! With the longer days, meal time is sunny

and pleasant. Our guests are always so appreciative

and polite. They love the $5.00 Carl’s Jr. cards, too!

Watch for the Sign-Up Genius email from the

church office. We need people to donate menu items

& Carl’s Jr cards, and people to come with us to

serve the dinner at Doheny State Park. Also, if you

ever have travel size toiletries to donate, please leave

them in the Narthex and we will hand those out, too.

We welcome your participation! Our Welcome INN

coordinator is Heidi Works, [email protected] or

(949) 212-0803.

Social Concerns Ministry Team News

Spotlight on Welcome INN - Members of our

Welcome INN team attended a lovely volunteer

appreciation dinner recently at St. Timothy’s

Catholic Church in Laguna Niguel. Some take

aways from the dinner that you may like to know:

Welcome INN is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible, non-

profit corporation guided by a 100% volunteer

board. INN stands for Interfaith Needs Network.

A hot meal and take-away lunch sack is provided

7 evenings/week and Saturday morning, rain or

shine – and has been for over 25 years!

Mission Hospital has been an active partner in

providing food since the beginning.

25-30 local churches are active participants in

serving Welcome INN meals every month.

35-50 guests are served at each meal service.

Toiletries, clothing and gift cards are provided

when available.

Welcome INN has begun working with Family

Assistance Ministries to provide permanent

housing solutions for the chronically homeless.

You can learn more at www.welcomeinnoc.org

It was truly inspirational to see so many of our

neighbors in the faith community dedicated to loving

our neighbor in such a helpful way – by feeding

them.

Lutheran World Relief

Personal Care * Baby Care Kits

Our formal drives are over, but we could still use

some help meeting our goal of 500

quilts and kits to commemorate the

500th anniversary of the Protestant

Reformation. The need couldn’t be

greater with refugee

crises in Syria and

Africa and looming famines in

several African countries. We would

be grateful for your continued

financial support of this project.

We welcome your donations of any amount. Please

make checks payable to Our Savior’s Lutheran

Church, memo: LWR Kits. Every dollar will be

put toward supplies for the kits. Thank You!

Looking Ahead… Get Ready to Relay!!!

Save the date – July 22 – for this year’s Relay for

Life. Our Savior’s will have a team and join with the

rest of the San Clemente community to support the

American Cancer Society’s annual fundraising

event. This year’s team will be led by Karen Coffee,

Hallie Stohler and Deb Krogman. Thanks, ladies!

You can join our team right now or make a donation

on our team website at: tinyurl.com/y8sd6phu

You can also write checks to Our Savior’s Lutheran

Church memo: Relay for Life if you prefer.

We will be hosting bake sale fundraisers on Sunday

mornings in early July. You will also have an

opportunity to sign-up for a walk time and to

purchase and decorate commemorative luminaria to

line our path during the Relay. Help us

make this the best San Clemente Relay

for Life yet! It’s a great community and

family event, and there will be lots of

activities for the kids. Continued on page 9
