Many look forward to the days of family and lives shared by family. They anticipate so many events and maybe even plan with the words of “I wish...” At some point, it’s unclear, but at some point the words “I wish...” transform into “I wish I had...” What has captured your heart and held it captive with the prison of regret? Has it been words you wanted to speak or words you wanted to share? Has it been words you wish you had never spoken and really never took responsibility for them, and they were left to the history of your relationship? Families, throughout history, have had complex and strained relationships: Cain and Abel, Isaac and Rebekah and their sons Jacob and Esau; Jacob with Leah, Bilhah, Zilpah, and Rachel having twelve sons, two of whom, Benjamin and Joseph were his favorites, because they were the sons he had with Rachel. David had one son who tried to kill him, another son who raped his sister. Eli’s sons were called worthless (I Samuel 2:12, 17). During the time of the kings, you see a generational trend. Between Judah and Israel, there were forty kings across three hundred years after the reign of Solomon. Between the divided kingdom and of the total years of reign and leadership, one in five did what was right in the eyes of God. Yet of the forty kings, there was one phrase repeated throughout God’s record, “He did evil in the sight of the Lord and walked in the ways of his father and in the ways of Jeroboam.” It was recorded 32 of the 40 times through the days of the kings and it was a twofold failure. First, it was a failure of following. Moses gave the people, they had no king. In fact, nearly 400 years would pass before there would be a king in Israel. God peered into the future and told the people, when you demand a king, I will grant you one under these conditions. Sadly these conditions were never met. The heads of the family, the parents, particularly the fathers, were called upon to raise their families to the honor of the Lord. During the days of the Old Testament, God was revealed to the people through the words of the prophets. He was accessed on behalf of the people by the priests, and He was to be honored and revered by the king. In our day God has been revealed to us by His prophet, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 1:1). In our day, we may all now appeal directly to God by our common priest, the High Priest, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:12). “I Hope You Know”

Regret may take hold of more hearts in the form of

family matters and family members than perhaps in any other place or part of life. Many look forward to the

days of family and lives shared by family. They anticipate so many events and maybe even plan with

the words of “I wish...” At some point, it’s unclear, but at some point the words “I wish...” transform into “I

wish I had...” What has captured your heart and held it captive with the prison of regret? Has it been words

you wanted to speak or words you wanted to share?

Has it been words you wish you had never spoken and really never took responsibility for them, and they were

left to the history of your relationship?

Families, throughout history, have had complex and

strained relationships: Cain and Abel, Isaac and

Rebekah and their sons Jacob and Esau; Jacob with Leah, Bilhah, Zilpah, and Rachel having twelve sons,

two of whom, Benjamin and Joseph were his favorites, because they were the sons he had with Rachel. David

had one son who tried to kill him, another son who raped his sister. Eli’s sons were called worthless (I

Samuel 2:12, 17). During the time of the kings, you see a generational trend. Between Judah and Israel, there

were forty kings across three hundred years after the

reign of Solomon. Between the divided kingdom and of the total years of reign and leadership, one in five did

what was right in the eyes of God.

Yet of the forty kings, there was one phrase repeated

throughout God’s record, “He did evil in the sight of the

Lord and walked in the ways of his father and in the ways of Jeroboam.” It was recorded 32 of the 40 times

through the days of the kings and it was a twofold failure. First, it was a failure of following. Moses gave

the people, they had no king. In fact, nearly 400

years would pass before there would be a king in Israel. God peered into the future and told the

people, when you demand a king, I will grant you one under these conditions. Sadly these conditions

were never met. Second, a failure of family was harming Israel. Before the kings there was the

family (Deuteronomy 6:4-6). The heads of the family, the parents, particularly the fathers, were

called upon to raise their families to the honor of the

Lord.

During the days of the Old Testament, God was

by the priests, and He was to be honored and

revered by the king. In our day God has been revealed to us by His prophet, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 1:1). In our day, we may all now appeal directly to God by our common priest, the High Priest, Jesus

Thank you very much….

THE BEST PART OF WAKING UP… Another great Senior High Prayer Breakfast last Thursday. My thanks to Mike Elkins for his leadership of the F.C.A. group at H.C.H.S. and the opportunity to host these events. Our final Prayer Breakfast of the year will be April 11. Be sure to join us!

WE HAD A WONDERFUL NIGHT as we got together Sunday night for the Junior High Fireside. We enjoyed some pizza, some games of scatterball, and a lot of laughs together. Thanks to Misty for getting everything ready for us. Our devotional came from Luke 14 as we focused on putting Christ first and placing our priorities on Him. Thanks to all who came and keep encouraging others to join us!

THIS FRIDAY, WE LEAVE AT 5:00 for the Junior High Spring Retreat at N.B.F. State Park! We have a packed weekend planned as we look at the theme, “The Walking Dead” from Romans 6:1-11. So far we have about 35 of us together for the weekend, but we do have a few spots still available. If you would like to go, please let me know as soon as possible. The food will be delicious, the games will be fun, the devotionals will be challenging, and the time together will be unforgettable. We plan to return on Sunday by 11:00. I can’t wait and I hope you are planning to join us!

BE SURE TO KEEP UP WITH ALL THE THINGS HAPPENING… The calendar to the left has several events coming up. Also available are take home calendars in the Lighthouse and at the Youth News Board. You can find our calendars available on our website, www.centervillechurchofchrist.org/ministries/youth. You can even find our calendars on our Twitter and Facebook pages. Including the announcements on Sunday mornings, information is everywhere to keep up with all that is going on. Tell your friends and do what you can to join us!

“THIS, THEN IS THE TEST WE MUST SET FOR OURSELVES; but to March alone in such a way that others will wish to join us.” -Hubert H. Humphrey. Did you catch it before this paragraph.

The over emphasized encouragement to “join us.” They are two simple words, but so critical to our Christian lives. To be together as a youth group, as a church, as God’s people, to encourage, to challenge and to share opportunities to tell God’s Word. The more we are together the stronger we are. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Proverbs 27:17, Acts, Galatians 6, and many more scriptures emphasis the importance of being together. Do what you can to encourage, invite, and join us for all that you possibly can. The amount of good it does is immeasurable as we all seek to… follow His path, -Craig
