Spring is here! As I start to sneeze and wonder if I am sick like everyone else, I try to hope it is my spring allergies making a visit. The New Year has been a roller coaster of staff, parent, and student sickness throughout the district. We all need to be reminded of the importance of washing our hands and staying home if we are sick. We definitely don’t want to be spreading the germ bug around! School spirit has been excellent as we had many students and staff in their Pink Shirts last week along with a very successful Red, White, and Pink day on February 12th. Jackson has a great amount of spirit and we appreciate the parent’s support. To address Pink Shirt Day and treating others with kindness, we brought in Mr. Michael Bortolotto http://www.positiverebel.ca/ He is a man who has MS and has a positive message about his life and how he dealt with the trials and tribulations of a youth who “appeared” to be different from everyone else. We believe his presentation had a big impact on our school, students, and staff. The Gr. 4’s have now completed the Provincial Foundation Skills Assessment exams as set out by the Ministry. Mr. Ufimtseff, Mrs. Minchuk, and Ms. Nairn worked very hard to ensure our students did the best they possibly could on these exams. Results of their tests will be given to the students sometime after spring break. A few other highlights from this month:
The Choir was adjudicated at the Abbotsford Arts Centre last week with 3
other schools. Great job Mrs. Zemp and Miss Loeppky
District staff presented to our staff a few weeks ago about new ways on how
to use their Smart Boards and IPADS with students
Staff have been discussing the new curriculum and how assessment will look in
September of 2016.
The painting, library/learning commons and several rooms are still under
construction, but we are making progress!

As you know the BC Summer Games will be held in Abbotsford this July. A number of our facilities will be utilized during the four days of competition. To host, coordinate and direct thousands of visiting athletes, coaches and officials requires an army of volunteers; so on behalf of the Games, we are asking for your assistance as school, staff and parents will be ideal as volunteers. Here’s how you can help: Volunteers can sign-up online at: https://www.bcgames.net/abb2016s/DesktopDefault.aspx
Rise above. Reach beyond.
Please come into the office and
sign your students in if they
are late.
School Inquiry questions: *Will a focus on teaching reading strategies help improve students’ reading comprehension? Will improved reading comprehension improve writing skills? *Will a focus on retelling following a reading experience, positively affect reading comprehension by the end of grade one? * Will an intense focus on teaching reading strategies and heightened oral discussion in small groups improve students’ comprehension of reading content (non-fiction)?
Rhythm & Reading Drumming is cancelled until further notice as Ms. Nita is away.
