The stadium has seen steady upgrades, like the one in 1946 when it hosted the rst Gator Bowl and acomplete demolition in 1994 to make room for the Jags. The onlypieces of the past that remain standing are the west upper deckand the ramp system. n

Football is a sport t for gladiators. Tough

as it is, it doesn't hurt to have cutting-edgetechnology to go along with brute strength. That's the idea behind the Jaguars' partner-ship with Sparta Software Corporation toimplement its athlete performance andevaluation software, SpartaTrac .

The Jags are the second NFL team (alongwith the Atlanta Falcons) to use Sparta's tech-nology to help evaluate draft talent, monitorplayer fatigue and maximize players' o ff -eldpreparation.

Players such as 2014 draft picks BlakeBortles and Marqise Lee will be able to recordweights and sessions in real time, log work-

out stats and access a video library to be sure

they're working out the right way. This part-nership shows the Jaguars' commitment tousing science and technology to stay com-petitive in the NFL, says Sparta founder Dr.Phil Wagner. The Silicon Valley-based rmalso works with Major League Baseball's Col-orado Rockies, the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliersand Kansas University athletics.

The newest performance application is acontinuation of the Football Technology andAnalytics group started by Tony Khan in 2012.The Jaguars hope the new software will helpturn the ones and zeroes of binary code intosevens and threes on gameday. n

JAGS OWNER SHAD KHAN has called the competition between NFL franchises to upgrade stadiums and provide a

better fan experience an arms race. And teams in the AFC South division are pulling out the big guns, spending

money and trying to outdo one another with new upgrades and innovations. The Houston Texans and Indianapolis

Colts have both made major additions, or built new stadiums, in the past few years, so the Tennessee Titans and

Jaguars had to catch up. Heres a look at how AFC South stadiums stack up against each other. n

of his first priorities was to trans-

form the teams locker room into

something that wasnt just a place

to lace up cleats and put on pads,

but a room fit for a top-flight NFL

    franchise. Also retouched were the

Arguably the place to be come au-tumnespecially if you are a youngprofessional and a Jaguars fanis

tailgating with the Bold City Brigade(BCB). Founded three seasons ago,the group was launched with thebelief that Generation Jaguar (20-and 30-year-olds who were kidswhen Jax was first awarded an NFLfranchise) was coming into its own.

    BCB president John Caputo says

he could see the excitement rebuild-

ing in 2012 after a few seasons of

    waning enthusiasm. I thought,

There's gotta be a way for us to har-

ness that, organize it and bring it into

something thats fun , he recalls.

BCB started with a core group of350 members in 2012. Last season, that number had grown to 1,700and spawned nine more chapters in

other cities such as Washington,D.C., New York City, Atlanta andLondon. Power is in the numbers.

The more organized the massescan be, the more productive we canbe, Caputo says.

Members pay a $20 annual fee tobe a part of the non-profit group. Inreturn, BCB members can partici-pate in game-day tailgates, away-game watch parties and packagetrips to Jaguars away-game sites.BCB made quite an impressionwhen it traveled to New York for the2014 NFL Draft. We had the largestfan group ever to attend the draft,Caputo says.

The Jaguars see the value in thegroup, too. The team organized aspecial send-off at JIA for the draft-day group and team president Mark

Lamping picked up a sizable bar tabfor BCB when it was in NYC. [Theteam's] willingness to involve us and

embrace us has been great. Theyrecognize we offer something thatmaybe they can never do. What wehave is 100 percent authentic,Caputo says.

In 2014, BCB is planning to travelwith a group of more than 100 tothe Jaguars vs. Redskins game inWashington, D.C., on September 14.Also on tap: Watch parties at Engine15 in Jacksonville Beach, and a sea-son kick-off tailgate. Caputo hopesthat the group will change thestereotype that the Jaguars donthave a passionate fan base. Cer-tainly theres no shortage of itwithin the BCB.
