Upcoming ACS Opportunities Reminder: Great Falls is ‘off limits’ It’s that time of year to remind military personnel of the “Off Limits” status of a nearby waterway. The Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board has placed the Potomac River – Great Falls area OFF LIMITS to all military personnel. Military personnel are ordered not to go into this area; the Great Falls area is posted with off limits signs applicable to everyone. This area is unsafe, and water activities in the Great Falls – Potomac River Gorge area are prohibited by law in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The area along the Potomac River that extends from Sycamore Island to Chain Bridge is off limits due to the strong undertow currents. Undertows are dangerous: the surface of the water can be calm, but beneath the surface, strong water currents pull in opposite directions. There have been many deaths of service members and their families in the past.

See www.army.mil/article/127982 for a 2014 Pentagram article by Jim Dresbach which is still relevant today. Call the JBM-HH Safety Office for more information at 703-696-6996

Catch a Ride! We often get asked “how can I plan a trip to Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall without a car?”

Non-DoD access entry requires government approved identification such as a valid driv-ers license or passport. Taxi drivers are welcome to come to the installation if they go through the gate security and vetting process. Taxi services are not, however, obligated to drive custom-ers into the installation.

For those who wish to take a taxi to JBM-HH we recommend three steps to ensure trans-portation to and from the installation:

1) Call for a taxi well in advance. This provides the taxi service the time to find a JBM-HH driver, and allows them to block in their schedule for you.

2)Ask when scheduling “Will you be able to bring me on to JBM-HH, beyond the gate, to my final destination?”

3) If your taxi driver can get on base, keep their info for future reference.
