Saheb and Yogiji Maharaj
Anoopam Mission was established through the vision of Brahmaswarup Param Pujya
. From 1951 to 1971, the date upon which he left His earthly form,
Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj was the spiritual leader of the
Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottom Sanstha (BAPS), a rapidly growing sect
within the Swaminarayan movement with millions of followers worldwide.
During the late 1950s to early 1960s, an energetic and charismatic youth by the
name of Jashbhai Patel was the leader of a large youth group under Brahmaswarup
Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj. Jashbhai's devotion to his guru, Brahmaswarup Param
Pujya Yogiji Maharaj, was unparalleled and, as they developed an exceptionally
close bond, Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj affectionately addressed his
young youth leader as 'Saheb'.
Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj wrote over 400 letters to Saheb during His lifetime. In these letters Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj
![Page 3: Anoopam Mission](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55cf9c9c550346d033aa6bf3/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)

outlined Saheb's destiny and provided a detailed set of instructions for Saheb to carry out His vision. The letters contain countless pronouncements foretelling the rise of
a new, unique spiritual organization dedicated to the liberation of souls and to provide selfless service to humanity…
" 'Rajmaan Rajeshree' Jashubhai, have faith that from now onwards the
work will be done by the youth only. That group (of youth) in Vidyanagar
will triumph throughout the universe. My heartfelt blessings to all of the
youths."-Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj
"Oh Jashubhai, we should convince every youth by examples and
arguments. The fields are open and unploughed. This is the proper time,
Jashubhai Saheb, to plough them well. Vidyanagar will whole-heartedly
join this college of 'Brahma-Vidya' (self realization)." Param Pujya Yogiji
Maharaj
"Gods will arrive to serve and help in this college of 'Brahma-Vidya' (self realization). So, get ready
and help others fall in line." Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj

"Oh Jashubhai Saheb, 125 youth should achieve their goal of staunch 'Ekantik Swadharma' via your
training. For this you have my good blessings. Oh Jashubhai, you are beloved by Swamiji so
whatever you ask for, you shall receive."
-Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj
"Oh Jashubhai Saheb, …You undertake this work in order to transform souls into Temples for God.

The youth will travel across the country and overseas. 'Dharma' , 'Niyam' , 'Agna' and 'Upasana'
they should follow strictly, that is the goal and there is no other reason for being. Only by being
brave will this be possible. So keep before you Swami Shriji , Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Bhagatji
Maharaj , Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Jagga Swami, Pujya Krishnaji Ada, Brahmaswarup Param
Pujya Shastriji Maharaj and Pujya Nirgundas Swami and perform this supreme work. Our whole-
hearted blessings are with you."
Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj
HISTORY
Establishing A New Path
Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj was a
profound visionary who believed that whilst religion
should remain intact, the manner in which it is
practiced must be progressive and in keeping with the
times. He believed that the best way to serve God was
to learn both, to recognize that God exists within every
individual and to serve Him by serving humanity.
Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj was
therefore determined to develop a new, more
contemporary order in which sadhus would freely live
and work within society, remaining accessible to all
seekers, but practicing renunciation from within.
Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj inspired
Saheb and eight others to become sadhus and, with His
blessings, asked Saheb, as their leader, to pioneer this
new Swaminarayan order… thus the Anoopam
Mission was born.
![Page 6: Anoopam Mission](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55cf9c9c550346d033aa6bf3/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

Living simply and
frugally, in a commune-
like setting, the
Anoopam Mission
'Vratdhari Sadhaks'
are self-reliant and
together perform all of
their own household
and campus
maintenance work. In
addition, as many of the
sadhaks are particularly
well educated, many
are engaged in local
industries. The rest are
involved in supporting
the Mission's various
activities.
Importantly, as the
income of the sadhaks
more than offsets the
cost of their upkeep,
ALL of their surplus
income, including their
time and energy, are
devoted towards
charitable work.
This unique self-sufficiency ensures that every cent of incoming charitable donations goes directly
towards the activities for which they are intended. Today a host of charitable activities are being
carried out in the fields of education, healthcare, social welfare and relief work. Through Guruvarya
Param Pujya Sahebji's guidance and support, over 100 sadhaks, work together with devotees
towards elevated spiritual practice and continuously expanding charitable works.
![Page 7: Anoopam Mission](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55cf9c9c550346d033aa6bf3/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
http://www.anoopam.org/index.php
The sadhaks' attire is highly
symbolic. It consists solely of a
sky blue colored shirt and crème
colored trousers. The crème color
is symbolic of the earth and of our
position. The blue is the color of
the sky and is symbolic of the
highest spiritual state, which is
union with God. The attire
therefore is symbolic of the quest
to rise from our current state to
the highest spiritual state.
A saffron and white colored badge
is also worn. The logo of Anoopam
Mission, an eight-spoke wheel, is
depicted in the center of the
badge. The saffron color is
symbolic of renunciation and
purification, which must be
practiced internally.
The wheel is symbolic of Anoopam Mission, with Saheb as its center. Each of the eight spokes
represents the principles by which internal purification is achieved. Each spoke is also representative
of the eight brothers who received Brahmaswarup Param Pujya Yogiji Maharaj's blessings and
instructions to go forth onto this new path

Introduction
Hinduism has been preserved by its many streams and faiths. The
richness and diversity has provided fuel for many spiritual paths,
the ultimate destination of which is the same, the Supreme
Reality. The Swaminarayan movement was founded by a great
social and spiritual reformer, Lord Swaminarayan (1781-1830 AD).
As a manifestation of God Himself, Lord Swaminarayan arrived on
this earth during a time of great social and spiritual turmoil. But in
the short span of 49 years, He addressed many social ills, revive
Hinduism and provided a spiritual path, the Swaminarayan
Philosophy, to last the ages.
A Summary of the Life and Work of Lord Swaminarayan
Lord Swaminarayan appeared
on earth on 3rd April 1781 in
the North Indian village of
Chhapaiya, near Ayodhya. From
the beginning, stories and
experiences abound that
indicated His extraordinary
nature…
Childhood
Known then as "Ghanshyam",
by the age of seven He had
already mastered the Holy
Scriptures the Vedas,
Upanishads, Ramayan,
Bhagwatam etc.
Teenage Asceticism
When only 11 years old, He
renounced his family and
became a yogi. Then known as
"Nilkanth Varni ", He proceeded
to climb the Himalayas
barefooted and perform severe
austerities, such as standing on
one leg and meditating in bare
body amidst snowstorms for 3
![Page 9: Anoopam Mission](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55cf9c9c550346d033aa6bf3/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)

months.
He then embarked, on foot, on a momentous 7-year pilgrimage of over 12,000 kilometers in His search for a spiritual guide. At the age of 18, He ultimately reached His goal by adopting Ramanand Swami as His Guru in the state of Gujarat.
Guru Ramanand Swami initiated Nilkanth as a sadhu and gave him the name "Sahajanand".
The Swaminarayan Movement - The Beginning
Recognizing Sahajanand's spiritual greatness and
overlooking more senior sadhus, Ramanand Swami
ceremoniously installed Sahajanand, at the tender
age of 21, as His spiritual successor.
Soon after the death of Guru Ramanand Swami,
Sahajanand gathered all of His disciples and
instructed them to chant the Divine mantra "Om
Swaminarayan". By doing so, He Promised to bear
their every burden and to provide them with His
strength and guidance. From then onwards He was
known as
"Lord Swaminarayan".
Social and Spiritual Reforms
To arrest the significant decline in social, cultural and moral standards, Lord Swaminarayan, through
the Shikshaapatri (a sacred book of ethics), outlined the Hindu moral codes for everyday life. It
provided practical guidance on familial, social, financial, hygienic, moral, and spiritual issues.
Lord Swaminarayan also initiated 500 ascetics, which were of the highest degree. Selfless and
spiritually motivated, they practiced strict disciplines and continuously moved through society,
carrying the message of purity. They helped abolish superstitions, addictions and inhumane
practices such as Dudhpiti and Sati. They also dugged wells and set up alms-houses in times of
famines and droughts.
His Teachings and Philosophy
The basic foundation of the Swaminarayan philosophy
involves a principle called "Vishishtha Adwaitvad".
This concept stipulates that the Lord can not dwell on
this earth without His Divine Abode. Lord
Swaminarayan referred to Anadi Mul Akshar Murti Shri
Gunatitanand Swami, a God-Realized saint who had
risen above all qualities to attain oneness with the
Lord, as His Abode.
![Page 10: Anoopam Mission](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55cf9c9c550346d033aa6bf3/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

Five Spiritual Vows :
DO NOT STEAL
DO NOT EAT MEAT
DO NOT TAKE ALCOHOL OR ANY
INTOXICANT
DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY
DO NOT INDULGE IN AN IMPURE LIFE
Lord Swaminarayan directed his followers
to observe 5 spiritual vows that are
common for most Hindus.
The observance of these vows
would purify His followers lives
and prepare them for spiritual
advancement. For His sadhus,
Lord Swaminarayan prescribed 5
primary principles called the
"Panch Vartamaan".
"Panch Vartamaan"
NISHKAM Lust - free Lifetime celibacy
NIRLOBH Greed - free No possessions. Not even to
touch money
NISSNEH Attachment - free Unattached to place, people
or family
NISWAD Taste - free No Preference in food or taste
NIRMAN Ego - free Untouched by pride or anger
The Holy Scripture of the Swaminarayan faith is called
the Vachnaamritam and consists of a historical
collection of 262 spiritual discourses delivered by Lord
Swaminarayan in the Gujarati language. It is a
catechism, filled with logic, metaphors and analogies,
and divine revelations that provide philosophical and
practical answers to the mysteries and questions of
life.
* How to overcome depression
* How to identify real friends
* How to calm anger
* How to remove ego and jealousy
* How to develop faith
* How to recognize a true guru
* How to realize God
The Swaminarayan Movement - Today and the Future
The Spiritual Succession
At the age of 49, Lord Swaminarayan left this earth for His Divine Abode. But in His teachings, Lord
Swaminarayan assured his followers that he would continue to manifest on earth through an
uninterrupted succession of Gunatit saints. Guided by these saints, Lord Swaminarayan's devotees
would reach "Akshardham", or the Highest State of Consciousness.

by Lord Swaminaryan: the continued moral, spiritual and cultural upliftment of humanity.
Anoopam Mission Goals
The Anoopam Mission undertakes its spiritual philosophy through a fusion of 'bhakti yoga' (the yoga of devotion) and 'karma yoga' (the yoga of action).
![Page 12: Anoopam Mission](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061616/55cf9c9c550346d033aa6bf3/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
http://www.anoopam.org/index.php
Bhakti yoga is devotion to the Supreme Reality and includes prayer, chanting and meditation. But in actuality, it also goes much beyond this to incorporate a state of mind in which every word, thought and action is dedicated to the Lord.
Karma yoga involves performing selfless service - expecting nothing by way of compensation, gratitude or praise - and humbly offering the results of the work to the Lord.
The devotion to the Lord, which is inherent in both bhakti yoga and karma yoga, evolves out of dedication to the living guru who has attained the status of 'Akshar' - or oneness with God. Thus complete dedication to this guru leads the guru's devotee to himself attain oneness with the 'Purushottam' - meaning the Supreme Reality or God.
The Anoopam Missions vratdhari sadhaks practice devotion by living according to the every word of their guru, Saheb. He instructs them to live a life that reflects truth, love, devotion, non-violence and compassion. He emphasizes the need to recognize the Divine in every human being. Saheb inspires the sadhaks to do this by serving humanity for it results in the service to the Lord Himself.
Therefore, under Saheb's guidance, the vratdhari sadhaks perform bhakti yoga through various devotional activities such as organizing religious celebrations, performing in the Mission's musical group (for singing devotional songs), engaging in the routine functioning of the temple, etc.
In the same way, karma yoga is practiced through chores, employment and humanitarian service. The humanitarian service takes the form of Anoopam Mission's services for all of humanity (regardless of caste, color, creed or religion) in the areas of education, healthcare and social welfare.
In summary, all of the Anoopam Mission's actions and all the fruits of the actions are dedicated as humble offerings to the Lord.

Temple of
Anoopam Mission,

Thakorji Today
Location
Anoopam Mission's head quarter known as "Brahmajyoti", is spread over 40 acres of land in village Mogri, at the outskirts of famous educational town of Vallabh Vidyanagar in Central Gujarat.
Contact Details || Driving Directions
The Temple
The Temple structure at Brahmajyoti has a unique history. Guruvarya Param Pujya Sahebji, a
protagonist with prime vision "modern education with religion" decided to divert all funds (initially
allocated for an elaborate "Shikhar Baddh" mandir) to construct a women's college at Dhari, a very
remote backward region of Saurashtra-Gujarat and birthplace of his guru Yogiji Maharaj.
The existing temple 'Parmita' is pyramid shaped
representing that a single divine source is the 'cause
and effect' of the universe beneath. In 1993, on the
auspicious occasion of Anoopam Diksha Rajatotsav
(Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Anoopam Mission),
Parmita abode marble deities of Lord Swaminarayan,
Brahmaswarup Gunatitanand Swami and Brahmaswarup
Gopalanand Swami in the holy presence of Guruvarya

In the early 1980s, Anoopam Mission was aspiring to acquire land in Vallabh Vidyanagar for its expansion and social activities. This search concluded in village Mogri, outskirts of Vallabh Vidyanagar, at the existing site. Subsequently, it was realized that The Lord has bestowed this land, as Brahmaswarup P.P. Yogiji Maharaj himself had sanctified the meadows, while passing by. He had rested under a mango tree (now located at the center of the campus & called 'Hriday Kunj') and with His blessings, the adjacent well swelled with potable water to become the chief source for agriculture.
