Elementary Secondary Education Act

• On February 9, 2012, Georgia’s Elementary and

• Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver was approved by the US ED. The waiver allows local

• educational agencies (LEAs) greater flexibility in designing a Flexible Learning Program (FLP). The FLP is an alternative

• supplemental academic intervention that allows flexibility in designing an extended learning program. The program is

• tailored to the needs of academically at-risk students in a school in order to provide assistance for students to achieve

• proficiency in relation to the State Academic content standards.

Elementary Secondary Education Act

• Priority Schools

1) A school among the lowest five percent of Title I schools in the state - lack of progress over a number of years in the All groups

2) A Title I participating or Title I eligible high school with a graduation rate less than 60 percent over a number of years;

3) A Tier I or Tier II school under the School Improvement Grants 1003(g) using SIG funds to implement a school intervention model.

• Focus Schools

1) A school that has the largest within-school gaps between the highest-achieving and the lowest-achieving subgroup

2) A Title I high school with a graduation rate less than 60 percent over two years that is not identified as a priority school

• Alert Schools

An Alert school is a school that falls into one of the three following categories ng ESEA disaggregated subgroups or subject performance on both statewide assessments and graduation rate: Graduation Alert, Subgroup Alert or Subject Alert.

• Replaces CRCT and Writing Assessment for MS

• Selected, Constructed, and Extended Responses

• Technology Enhanced - will transition to entirely on-line by 2016-2017

Supplies - $15,529.24

Equipment - $3,600.00

Bus Drivers - $17,064.00

Substitutes - $4,080.00

Stipends - $5,040.00

Parental Involvement Policy

Parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring –

 

• that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning;

• that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school;

• that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child;

• carrying out of other activities, such as those described in section 1118 of the ESEA.

Purpose: Shared responsibility of Student Achievement

Goals:

• Increase the % of students that meet or exceed standards in Math

• Increase the % of students that meet or exceed standards in Science

• Increase the % of students that meet or exceed standards in Social Studies

Student Expectations

• Attend school daily and be on time to class

• Complete classwork and homework assignments

• Set academic goals and check on academic progress

• Be active participants in class

• Bring necessary supplies to school

• Take ownership of learning and responsibility for behavior

• Maintain a positive learning environment for all

Parent Expectations

• Keep contact information updated

• Provide a quiet study place at home

• Maintain positive communication with the teacher and school

• Attend parent workshops, PTSA meetings, and conferences

• Review progress reports with your child and ask for assistance if needed

School Expectations

• Provide high quality instruction aligned to the standards

• Hold parent-teacher conferences to discuss student achievement

• Maintain positive communication with the parents and community

• Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress

• Provide parents the opportunity to volunteer and observe classroom activities

• Provide parents reasonable access to staff
