8FMDPNF Welcome to the Annual Report of the 66th Bath Scout Group, marking yet another successful year for Scouting in Weston Village.

An enormous Thank You must, as ever, go to our fantastic Leader Team for everything they do, completely voluntarily, for all our Young People. A smaller, but just as important, Thank You goes to the other members of the Executive Committee for their efforts this year, in particular our Fundraising Team.

Being part of Scouting is being part of a community, so thank you to everyone who has helped the group to deliver yet another year of adventure and life experiences to over 100 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Whatever people contribute, from being one of our fantastic Leader Team, to helping out at a camp, meeting, or fundraising event as a Parent helper, simply washing the tea towels or emptying your wallets and purses at a fundraiser we thank you all.

Fran Parsons - Group Chair

(SPVQ4DPVU-FBEFST3FQPSU 12 months ago I wrote a report focussed on the growth that the group had seen in the past twelve months, and this year’s report is no different. The opening of a new Cub Pack formed the penultimate phase of the group’s expansion to six sections, and we are already looking forward to the opening of our Second Scout Troop within a year. Over 120 young people now enjoy a Scouting Adventure here at 66th Bath each week.

It’s been a busy year as well, the highlight of which was the Avon County Jamboree which saw over 70 members of the group joining 4000 Scouts and Guides from across the area for a huge weekend of fun and adventure.

As a group we have also enjoyed our annual Group Christmas Campfire and an outing to Diggerland - both great opportunities for the different sections to work together.

As ever, Scouting in Weston wouldn’t happen without the adult volunteers. Whether its leaders running section meetings, or parents running fundraising, every hour that people can give can make a huge difference to the young people of Weston. I’d like to particularly thank Jodi who has taken on a huge amount of the administrative and “behind-the-scenes” responsibility for the group over the past year and has rapidly made herself completely indispensable as Assistant Group Scout Leader.

#FBWFSTUP Both Beaver Colonies have had a really busy year, with both enjoying sleepovers early in the year at the Hall. A range of activities have included wide games at Cleeve Hill, visits to the fire station, talks from a dentist, Scottish Dancing, a trip to Westonbirt Arboretum, gardening and firelighting.

Both teams have seen new leaders , with Kirsty joining the Monday Beavers, and Chris and Gemma joining Thursday Beavers. At Christmas we said goodbye to Chris Donovan, one of the founding leaders of the Thursday Colony.

Both Beaver colonies are looking forward to another year of fun and adventure, and we look forward to welcoming them to Group Camp 2016.

$VCTUP 2015-6 has been a very exciting year for Cubs, with the opening of a second Cub Pack to relieve the waiting lists. 2016 also saw Dan handing over the running of the Wednesday cub pack to Charlotte, as well as some new leaders joining us and some old faces leaving.

Summer 2016 saw the Cubs enjoy a 4 night summer camp in the New Forest, with highlights including a treasure hunt around Burley and swimming in the (slightly chilly) outdoor pool in Lymington!

Other nights away have included an autumn camp in Frome, and of course the Browsea Island Adventure! Other highlights have included a night of very messy games, a bike ride, visits to the fire station, and a rather chilly winter night hike!

Coming up, July is looking like a very busy month with the camping skills weekend near Bristol, and our main summer camp in Wales b o t h r a p i d l y approaching.

4DPVUT- Last year saw our founding Scout Leader, Kat, heading off to pastures new and handing the running of the troop over to Jon and Sophie. Since then the Scouts have seen a busy programme of camps (including Summer Camp to the West Midlands, a rather blustery night hike, and a trip to Brownsea Island) and weekly meetings. The Scouts have also enjoyed

kayaking, sailing, archery and shooting throughout the year.

Moving forwards, its “all change” again with Jon taking a step back to the role of “Assistant Scout Leader” and concentrating on the group’s adventurous activity programme, and Sophie taking a

step back to the role of “Skills Instructor”. In the new term we will be running a more flexible approach towards the leadership of Scouts, with a (hopefully much larger) single team running both Monday and Thursday Scouts.

This year also sees the first Scouts moving up to Explorers and becoming Young Leaders within the group - a real milestone in the group’s development and one we can’t help but be excited about!

5IF'JOBODF#JU As you will see from the annual accounts the group has continued to sit on a sound financial footing. Significant reserves were used in the acquisition of our new minibus but this has served the group well for the past year and is bringing in a good level of income. Meanwhile the fundraising team continue to work hard to raise money for new equipment and hall improvements.

.JOJCVTBOE)BMM After our volunteers and members, our next greatest assets are the hall and minibus. The minibus (new to us this year) has so far proved its worth time and again, and by renting it out to other community groups it is paying its own way. The hall meanwhile continues to bring in a fair rental income whilst we continue to plan the next stages of our refurbishment project.
