2015-2016 Events
Introduction
The Faculty Center sponsored 55 separate events across the academic year. Many of these events
(Faculty Exchange, Faculty Hour, Faculty Research Forum, Teaching Circles, and Academic Portfolio
Workshops) were offered more than once and most were offered on both campuses. The Faculty Center
events reached a total of 455 unique (925 including duplicate) full-time and part-time faculty and key
academic support administrators. Most activities are open to both full time and adjunct faculty. The
Center’s events hold practical value especially for the faculty seeking support in teaching methodologies,
support in writing articles/books and with the tenure and promotion process. In addition, the Faculty
Resource Network provides research and scholarly activities for the full-time faculty. Peer observation
and feedback session are also available. Programs are offered on internal resources and programs such
as academic technologies.
Listed below are the events The Center offered in Academic Year 2015-2016 with a breakdown on
numbers of participants and a link to assessment instrument in most cases.
Teaching Effectively Online Seminar
This seminar, offered twice a year in January and August prior to the start of each semester, introduces
instructional design theory and the basics to develop and teach an online or blended course. In this
week-long online asynchronous seminar, participants experience first-hand what it is like to be an online
learner. By completing each module, participants learn pedagogical concepts, trends, and mechanics of
online teaching. The goals of the workshop are: 1) to create effective online instruction; 2) to describe
some of the challenges students have getting started with online learning; 3) to examine assessment
differently when teaching online; 4) to apply consistency to design and think holistically about the
structure of an online course; 5) to identify the critical elements of managing a discussion board; and 6)
to investigate Pace University Library resources and services available to online students and faculty.
Participant outcomes include the ability to identify the types of learning resources available and assess
their abilities.
