Being the principal of this esteemed educational institution, I am privileged and happy to present before you, the Annual Report of STEMS for the academic year 2018 – 19 on this auspicious 24th Annual Day and STEMS Talentia, seeking the blessings and mercy from God Almighty. Being the principal of this esteemed educational institution, I am privileged and happy to present before you, the Annual Report of STEMS for the academic year 2018 – 19 on this auspicious 24th Annual Day and STEMS Talentia, seeking the blessings and mercy from God Almighty.

Founded in 1995, under the management of Kattanam St. Thomas Mar Thoma Charitable Trust, STEMS is progressing well and in pursuit of Quality and Excellence. Presently the Play & K.G. section and CBSE school function as two institutions under the Trust.

Welcome to New Manager and Secretary

Following the transfer of Rev. Dr. George Mathew who served as the manager and vicar of St. Thomas Church Kattanam, to another church in Thevalakara, Rev. Sam T. Panikar joined as the new Manager. The Trust secretary Mr. Kurian P.K. was relieved and Mr. Thomas John is elected as the new secretary in his place . We do acknowledge with gratitude both of them for their praiseworthy services and guidance rendered in this institution during last three years.

Our Staff

We have competent and committed Teaching and Non-Teaching staff with a wide range of skills and interest who works as a team. They effectively act with love and concern as the second parents to our beloved students. Presently we have 82 staff including 59- Teaching staff, 4- N T S and 19- Supporting staff. Mrs. Gangaji was reelected as the Staff secretary this year also. Mrs. Jaisy Thomas, Bindu K Prasad, Lovely Thomas, Susan John and Viji V Pillai served as the Section Inchargers. I record my thanks to all members of STEMS staff, for their incredible, dedicated hard work for the smooth running of the institutions.

In- Service Training

Teachers are being enriched and empowered in different occasions especially in vacation and holidays through different competent agencies and resource persons. Apart from Principal, renowned resource persons like Mr. K.M. Philip (Best Teacher award winner), Prof. Dr. Ashok Alex, Mr. Sunny V. George, Mr. Benny Pulikal , Mr. Benson Thomas, Mrs. Liby Elizebeth Mukesh, Mr. Shivan S. Mattakara, Mrs. Seena Abraham etc. took motivation and orientation classes for teachers during summer vacation and on non-teaching working days. Smt. Bincy Vincent and Mrs. Lalitha Kumary participated in the Capacity Development Programme organized by CBSE . Similarly many teachers attended workshop for Teachers’ Training course organized by various Publishers. Mac Million Publishers organized one day training programme exclusively for KG Staff.

Staff Extension Activities

Principal Dr. Babu. K. attended one NAAC Peer Team Visit in Rajastan. He has attended different meetings of Academic bodies and Doctoral committees in Education in Kannur University. Adjudicated few Ph.D. Theses from different universities.

Three of our P.G.Ts Mrs. Maya R., Mrs. Chitra P & Mrs. Sandya S. were deputed by CBSE as external practical examiners. Opportunities are given to all the qualified teachers as External invigilators in the CBSE Board examinations

Intensive expert classes for class X and XII th students are being held by eminent and experienced experts like Prof. Dr. Benny V. George, Sri Sunny V. George, Prof. Nandakumar, Mrs. Seena Abraham etc.

CBSE Examination ResultsResults of the Board Examination have always been the main yardstick to categorize schools. By the Grace of God, this year also we got excellent results with 100 % First Class in both class X and XII CBSE Board Examinations. In Class X, 3 tudents secured A1 Grade in all subjects and the remaining students got Distinction. Kumari Anugraha Ninan was the topper in Class XII and topper in Malayalam subject in Aleppy Dt. All the students who got good grades are felicitated by the School, PTA, CBSE, Sahodaya , and also by different agencies.

Merit Day was conducted on 12-6-18 for which Prof. Dr. Jacob Chandi, Principal Bishop Moor College Mavelikara was the chief guest and felicitated all the meritorious students.

Parent Teacher Association

Our P.T.A. is very strong and supportive. Their frequent meeting and timely advices are truly appreciable. This year we conducted General PTA on 6th July and executives were selected. 3 Executive members’ meeting was held. We acknowledge with gratitude Mr. M. C. Reghunath who was an active PTA President for the last many years. This year Mr. Solomon PV is elected as PTA president, Mrs. Dolly and Anoop Ajith as Vice presidents. Mrs. Maya M.B. is nominated as the PTA Secretary. Their wholehearted support in all activities and functions is highly praiseworthy. I take this opportunity to thank all parents for their relentless support, suggestion and guidance.

Tests and Open House

We conduct periodic tests, unit tests, mid-term tests, revision tests etc. to the students as per CBSE Norms. For the evaluation, assessment and improvement in academic performance, class wise open house is being arranged after each and every tests.

School Parliament: We have a total strength of 1148 students. Class wise leaders are selected and the student council election was held on 11-06-2018. The following members are elected as students’ representatives for the school parliament, in a democratic manner availing the privilege of exercising the franchise.

House system

Our students are divided into 4 Houses with 4 different colour codes. Healthy competitions are being done on various items in Arts Fest, Sports, Games and Academics. Red house has come out as the overall champion in this year.

Laurels in Inter School Competition

A. Our children proved their mettle in the youth festival held on28th and 29th September which was inaugurated by Sri Kunnida Sasi. Congratulation to the winners and participants and also good appreciations to the parents and teachers who trained and prepared them.Two students Aiswarya A.G. and Abhinav got ‘A’ Grade in Anchoring and power point presentations in the State Level CBSE Sahodaya youth Fest last year. This year, Due to the unprecedented Flood Crisis, CBSE and Government discouraged the Sahodaya Competitions in Sports and Arts.

B. Scholarship examinations. As the Government and CBSE Banned scholarships run by Private groups we did not conduct private Scholarship Exams like Gate @ Scholarships , but motivated students to appear KVYP, NSTS exams etc. Our students also bagged many prizes in the colouring and Handwriting competitions organized by various agencies like Balarama, YMCA, etc. Teachers’ DayStudents welcomed all the teachers with flowers and cards. They were honoured with “Guruvandanam”. The students bowed and paid obeisance to the teachers who blessed them.

Flood Relief Charity Drive

SYEMS family wholeheartedly involved in the management of this year’s unprecedented heavy flood crisis. About 2 buses full materials are collected by the students and distributed to about 300 deserving families in Kuttanadu, Aleppy Dt. Sacrificing the expenses budgeted for Onam and Eid Celabrations and utilized for CMDRF.

Again about Rs.1,25,000 /- was donated to Chief Minister’s Flood relief Fund through District Collector and CBSE. We express our sincere thanks to the parents, teachers, staff and the management Similarly many students, Staff and people were benefitted through our Charity Drive on different occasions.

150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi As per CBSE direction, one year programme is planned and being held. The Gandji Jayanti celebrations was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. E.V. Mathew on the eve of Ganndi Jayanthi. Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled by the Principal. Mega Essay , Quiz, Drawing competitions are held for every students .Certificates and prizes are given to the winners in each Classes, Sections and Houses/ School levels. Campus Cleaning and waste management programmes are also organized in the school and in many public places.

Stems Edu Expo-2018

Edu Expo-2018 was held at school on 27 th November. It was an exhibition of art, craft and educational subjects by the students. The highlights of the Expo include simple experiments, still and working models, Vegetable carvings, craft works, paintings, charts, collection of stamps and coins. The function was inaugurated by the manager and the principal explained the purpose behind the expo. A panel of teachers judged the exhibits.

Important Events and Activities in 2018 – 19

We aim to mould and transform the children with a keen sense of determination, dedication and discipline and to develop a balanced personality, based on moral values. In order to train our children to come out with domino effect, we provide equal opportunities to curricular as well as co-curricular activities.

This year we conducted Mass / Mega Competitions in Essay, Quiz & Drawing in connection with Flood Crisis and Quiz and Drawings on the 150th Year of Gandhi Jayanti

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION was solemnly celebrated in which Christmas message was delivered by Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Poulose Episcopa Adoor Diocese. A cashless, simple and conventional style of Christmas celebration was held with the exchange of self-made Greeting Cards to their Christmas friends among our students and staff. Beautiful Carols services and Special Programmes like, Musical Skit etc. are performed. Christmas cake was was cut by the guest and distributed to all. His Excellency released the school calendar-2019 and presented to all.

Special assembly On Wednesdays and Fridays Class wise special assemblies are organised for the distribution of prizes & certificates for the winners in the Class/ House /School level competitions held in Arts, Sports, Games Drawing and academics. Certificates and trophies / Medals are also given to the State level, Inter school / house competitions. Special prizes are also given to Best readers/library users

Educational tour and picnic

As a part of teaching learning process we conducted study tours with the aim of getting firsthand Experience, Entertainment, Enrichment and Education, this year we effectively conducted educational tours in 4 levels, in different destinations with the leadership of teachers.

All the tours started with special prayer by our manager in the presence of the Trust Secretary, the parents and teachers.

Club Activities

All the students of our school are included as members of various clubs named Science club, Health and Wellness club, Charity Club, Social Science club, Literary club, , Arts club, Quiz club, Painters Club etc. various competition, celebration and activities are successfully conducted on the auspicious of different clubs.

News Paper Reading Habit As a part of improving G.K. and competency in English, this year we started Manorama Vayanakalary. Students are also motivated to contribute and read English papers - Indian Express and Hindu at subsidized rates. Many students utilize the scheme.

Radio Programme During the Lunch Break, Students perform Radio Programmes systematically. Students on class wise exhibit their talents and items through this programme.

This year we implemented class-wise morning assemblies, manuscript magazines, Christmas/New year card making etc. which enabled our students to express their intent talents.

Facilities and Infrastructure

We are very happy to thank our management for providing all the necessary infrastructures by completing the buildings with sufficient class rooms, Laboratories, Activity Halls exclusively for Dance, Arts and Yoga Practice, New Wash rooms etc.

Facilities like High Tech Smart Class, well equipped Laboratories, Morning assemblies and radio programmes, Playground- Sports and Games, Library with additional new books etc. enhance our students holistic development.

Conclusion

Before I conclude, let me thank God Almighty for showering His choicest blessings upon us in all our endeavors.

I specially thank our Patron, Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulose Episcopa of Adoor Diocese for reposing his confidence and trust in me and for his encouragement, co-operation and support given for the smooth functioning of this prestigious institution. I express my sincere gratitude to Rev. Sam T. Panikar our beloved Manager & President of the trust, Rev. Arun Samuel Varghese (Vice President), Mr. Thomas John (Trust Secretary) , Mr. Varghese Mathew (Treasurer) and all other conveners and members of governing board and various sub committees who actively involved in the smooth function of the school. Mr. Sunny V George (Convener) and Dr. E.V. Mathew and Mr. Thomas Varghese members of Academic Committee are very keen and concerned about the academic matters of the school and use to involve with necessary and timely steps.
