Since 1992, the Children’s Cancer Foundation has been committed to its mission:

In 2015/16, we made significant strides towards achieving our goals by:

- raising a record-breaking $3,040,584 through The Million Dollar Lunch, fundraisers, individual and corporate donations, bequests and charity partnerships;

- committing $2.79 million for 12 new hospital and research-based projects from 2016 to 2021. We have prioritised research training for oncologists, resourcing of clinical trials and funding of innovative, translational research projects;

- resourcing 19 clinical trials to allow 74 children access to new treatments, including an Australian-first immunotherapy clinical trial for leukaemia, which uses a patient’s own genetically modified immune cells to attack cancer cells; and

- increasing our funding by 16% for family support projects and therapeutic clinical services such as music and art therapy because we know these powerful programs can significantly help a child throughout cancer treatment.

The Million Dollar Lunch, our annual fundraiser, underpins the Children’s Cancer Foundation’s project funding. The unprecedented sum of $2 million gross ($1.87 million net return) raised at the 2015 event allowed the Foundation to extend its future commitments across clinical research, clinical trials, clinical care and family support projects.

As our Ambassador Kate Langbroek said earlier this year, “it is the dollars that make a difference when it comes to research.” At a time when charity fundraising practices are being scrutinised, the Foundation’s low administration costs enabled us to direct 87 cents from every dollar raised in 2015/16 to supporting Australian children with cancer. We accomplished this extraordinary return thanks to the generous support of our donors, corporate partners, volunteers and pro bono suppliers.

We thank the many individuals and organisations that generously supported the Foundation this year and invite you to stride with us in 2017 to make a difference to the lives of children with cancer.

Message from the Chairman and Chief Executive

To enable children with cancer to access the world’s best treatment and support and to build awareness of childhood cancer in the community and within governments. The Children’s Cancer Foundation supports families through treatment, partners with hospitals to deliver clinical excellence and builds world-class paediatric cancer clinical research.

Celebrating Five Years Cancer-Free

Ruby was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma the day before her 2nd birthday in 2011.

She started The Beaded Journey from her earliest days in hospital, tracking each procedure and surgery in a journal, with each event or milestone represented by one precious bead.

Ruby’s Beaded Journey grew to 4 metres long.

In October 2016, Ruby reached her biggest milestone yet: 5 years cancer-free.

The Beaded Journey program at Monash Children’s Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital has been funded by the Children’s Cancer Foundation since 2007, allowing more than 1,000 patients and families to join the program.
